Compare this exquisite performance with the pathetic crap awarded medals in the 2024 Olympics. Watch von Bredow-Wendl's and Werth's dismal passage: The front hoof jiggling randomly in space, the forearms dangling at a 45 degree angle, the knees pulled almost under the chest so that the horse is TOPPLING forward, not driving forward. And their piaffe the same, hooves jiggling in space. Compare this liquid-smooth, effortless pirouette with the medalists' lumbering, staggering, herky-jerky pirouettes. THE OLYMPIC JUDGES SHOULD BE MASTERS FROM THE GREAT CLASSICAL DRESSAGE SCHOOLS, i.e., the SRS, the Royal Portuguese School, the Andalusian School, and Saumur. This would go a long way toward restoring what dressage should be at ALL levels of competition. THE JUDGES AT THE WORLD CUP AND OTHER PRESTIGIOUS COMPETITIONS should likewise be classical masters. The crap cannot continue to be rewarded. Better that NO medals be awarded if the performances don't deserve it. No more show-girl kicks pretending to be extended trots. No more tense, anxiety-filled dressage horses. Eliminate the profit-motive impelling the trainers to do harm to young horses. No more horses rushed into performing FEI movements when they are still too young to have developed the musculature and the mind to do it as it should be done, with grace and JOY. JOY, GOD DAMN IT.
