These new 5 car Alstom Class 720/6 Aventra EMUs have been silently introduced on 27th September 2023, which is 1 day before I got out for filming this video on the 28th.
All 720/6 units are built to run at 100mph max (although the line speeds of their services do not exceed 75mph) under 25kV 50hz overhead electrification, serving the London, Tilbury and Southend Railway (routes) out of Fenchurch Street station in the Capital. They are to compliment the main fleet of Class 357 Electrostars, and replace six Class 387/3 Electrostars which has already been transferred to join ex-thameslink 387/1s at Hornsey, to work on London to Letchworth / Cambridge (semi-fast) and London to Cambridge / Ely / Kings Lynn (fast) services operated by Great Northern.
I got on 720609 at Pitsea for the journey towards Shoeburyness, included is a ride view from Chalkwell to Southend East, and a interior walkthrough (skip to 08:09, or 8 minutes and 9 seconds, for this part of the video)
All footage taken within 720609 which was the unit on the eastbound end, while 720610 was coupled as the London end, forming 10 carriages of ~24 metres each, almost equalling the length of 12 electrostar carriages of ~20 metres each.
These units, although broadly similar to their Anglian counterparts, include some improvements and changes, notably the revised seating layout that create more standing room near the carriage doors and open gangways. They also bring to the c2c network the new PIS system as on Greater Anglia, being almost identical in their functions and screen displays.
On the day of filming, the pair are scheduled to work 2 separate journeys on weekdays, however you can use some social media for any diagram updates.
