I had my steering column rebuilt trying to get the slop out of the steering wheel on my 76. Then I converted it to the power steering box system. Still have the slop, though the 22 year old front end guy said it was good. I’ll give this a try. Great video. Thank you.

Thanks so much for posting this video! I bought a 1970 Vette 2 years ago and my steering also has a lot of play. I'm going to tighten the lash the way you demonstrated but I also need to replace my rag joint. I've read on other forums that replacing the rag joint on a C3 is a lot more difficult than most GM vehicles. Is this true? Sounds like you had no major problem replacing yours. Thanks again!!

Its not that hard you may have to loosen the column or steering box if its to tight

@@etwasbauen6615 Hi, have exactly that problem. I was able to get the rag joint out but no way to get the new one in. The steering column is to close to the rod coming out of the steering box. Can I just loosen the steering column or push it back a little bit - I just need one or two inches more space to get the rag joint on and don't want to go through the process of fully dismantle the column. Would really appreciate if you have a tip for me. Thank you very much

How did you replace the rag joint without having to move the steering Box or the steering column ??

It was a tight fit but i got it out. Normally you have to loosen one of the two.

I tried the same thing on that collar with the pry bar and hammer. All I did was make a nice divot in the tab. It is going nowhere.

Did the poly rag joint increase kickback thru the wheel? The fabrics purpose is to lessen kickback the drivers feels over uneven roads. Killer Vette!

I put the Borgeson integral power steering box in my ‘69. It is MUCH better, with a faster steering ratio.

You should have done all this when the engine was out. That's always my priority is to do all the steering and suspension when you have room to work.

Hi, they are 20x 10 all the way around. Factory trailing arms. and i believe the fronts are 255/35/20 and the rears are 275/40/20. Thanks

it looks like the collar bolt on the box side of the joint has some funky head. do you have to counterhold that while taking the bolt out? the vid kinda glanced over that

Why do you hear so many warnings from people saying not to mess with those adjustment screws? Telling stories of steering going zonkers etc.

According to Babvvo and Tebbvo laws, sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime!!!
