C3 Corvette Water Pump Installed + Alternator!

In this video, I show how to remove and replace the water pump on a C3 Corvette with a small block engine. I also show how I’m painting the water pump and replacing the bolts with ones that I bought from the hardware store and cut down to the right size.I also replaced the alternator and adjusted all of the brackets and wiring.

Have you tested the coolant sensor? I bought a new one and apparently the resistance on new ones doesn’t match up with old ones. My temp gauge was all over the place so wound up putting the old one back in

Yes, I ran the new one and it looked good. I did make a video on that.

@@michaelriley3110 Local old-school parts store that specializes in older cars. They have most of the American parts pretty well stocked. I don’t know how they make money, but I’m glad they’re there.

Now that I've put the old one back in, it's fine while the car is sitting and idling but when I start driving it'll go all the way over to the red line and then come back down again even though the engine temp has never gone above 200 so I know I'm going to need to replace it

That is an aftermarket water pump. Not an original.

There are a couple of tell tales. The impeller looked near new. A near 50 year old would have been pretty corroded. Also, the cover came off quite easily. The factory bonding would have left a mess coming off. Then, there was no GM stamp on the snout and no casting numbers. There would be a raised GM stamp about the size of a silver dollar on the face of the snout.
