C4 Corvette Dyno Day! 8000 RPM?

well the day has finally come, the 1989 c4 corvette is ready to go for the most power its ever made... with a smaller engine. how is that possible you ask? well a hand built and blueprinted very special engine was created. it is a 6.0 liter iron block, with a 4.8 liter crankshaft. the longest rods i could fit, 7.3" to be exact and a set of wiseco pistons for a small block chevy in an ls, hmmm 🤔. ls3 gm performance heads cnc ported, comp cams nsr drift cam, comp cams shaft style rockers, 8 ls7 injectors, a big ole intake manifold and a 750 cfm demon carburetor, wait what!? yeah there is an expension plan in play here. but first things first we need to get it broken in and tuned on straight fuel injection to see if there are limiting factors. the goal of this evolution was to make 600hp at the crank and limit tourque output to 400 at the tire. this a road race car and it is more usefull to be able to have smooth long winded power than it is to have pure grunt. 8000 rpm will yield 20 mph more in all gears and gives the ability to focus on driving instead of shifting. i hope you enjoy this video, this is good example of the proper first steps of an exotic engine build and the process to ensure success. oh i should note that as far as i know this is the only c4 with this exact setup using the factory zf6 transmission, thanks to zfdoc.com for all your help and a beautiful custom zr1 transmission combo using parts only he has access too. enjoy like and subscribe.

Not a bad day at all. It made the numbers i wanted. Modern fuel was the letdown but that kind of power and engine speed on pump gas is pretty impressive! Thanks buddy!

Before reading your description, I watched the video and studied the dyno graphs, and I was surprised by what I saw (and heard!). So thanks for explaining what you did here, and why. What an amazing result; is there nothing an LS can't do? Edit: I do have one question: Why the iron block? Was it simply a bore & stroke thing, or is it also about rigidity and durability?

Rigidity and harmonics. Also the thickness of the cyl walls. Amazing engine ran so nice. Unfortunately the oil pump could not handle the rpms and demands. Not sure if it starved or cavitated or both. Just finished rebuilding it with some much better ingredients

What oil pump is in that seems like needs a bit more. Will u be replacing that and what would u consider replacing it with once u figure it all out???????

Replaced with a boundry racing pump, just finishing the version 2 now. Milodon road race pan with more capacity and the spring is set to add 10psi of pressure. Ill have a video on it as it goes back together

Was thinking of ls swapping my 85 with a ls3 and 6l80, I’ve built the car myself so on a mechanical level, is it as bad as they say to swap?

The main issue with the non c4 trans is the lack of vertical bolt holes for the c beam at the tailshaft. Aside from that the operating system isnt terrible to make work with the car. You need to feel the guages with the appropriate sensor and the ecu with its appropriate sensors. Nothing is hard if you really want to do it.

They are c6 Z06 replicas by oe wheels. 18”x9.5” with a 56 offset. They do not clear the Z06 calipers unless some 3/8 spacers are used. The replica wheels have thicker spokes on the backside than a real Z06 wheel.

Great job on the swap👍looking at a ls swap but the zf trans to ls looks tough to do . Is it as bad as I read on forums ?

Thank you, its as easy as you make it. Buy a zf6 send it to zfdoc and he will install the needed parts just like this one. Not cheap but worth it. Ict billet mounts put it in factory mounts and propperly secured at the c beam.

Man , sometimes YT gets recommendations right. That is a wicked C4 , it's so cool to see younger people discover these gems. Affordable and you can mold it into whatever you desire. You have done an incredible transformation with this machine. Well done , subbed. I bought a 1990 ZR-1 back in 2018 , had to do a lot of maintenance work to it as she had been sitting for many years neglected. She is on the road now and I have driven her 8k miles with many more to come. C4s caught a lot of crap back in the day , undeserved ,they are light years ahead of the C3. I owned a 1969 C3 and loved it. C4s have much potential. Cool Ass Car.👍👍🏁🏁
