Another mod recommended by former C4 engineer Gordon Killebrew is to run a wire down the fuel bib. Simply open the lid over the gas cap for access. This will clean out the spider crud that often forms and allows any excess water to drain instead of getting sucked into your gas tank in a major rain storm. Never got caught in a sudden downpour? Lucky you.

I am still using the factory air cleaner and cover. The bottle neck for the airflow was the neck section of the air cleaner assembly, not the filter cover. The filter cover louvers have adequate opening and do not restrict airflow even when drawing airflow at 600hp.

I did all these mods plus i did a cat delete had someone do a custom tune so the computer wouldn't freak out because there's no O2 sensors anymore. Did a cat back flowmaster exhaust system on it. Remove the harmonic balancer and put underdrive pulleys on it. All that literally knocked off almost a full second off my quarter mile time. I wish I would have done headers on it because I heard that made a massive improvement as well.

It is kinda funning thinking that the filter or filter cover are anywhere near being restrictions in this intake tract. For a stock L98 with a stock maf you wont make a single extra hp. Same applies to the throttle body airfoil. These things dont get anywhere near the RPM where that makes any difference. Bypassing the tb coolant is fine as long as you dont drive much when the temps are near freezing.

Interior, fog lamps and headlights are all halogen lights that should be changed out for LED immediately. Not just under hood halogen.
@jokerzwild004 жыл бұрын
Opinion respected but I disagree heavily. On older cars I like the look of halogens so much better, LEDs have that "Autozone racer" look going on big time. Halogens aren't like incandescent bulbs for your home. They haven't stopped manufacturing them, matter of fact they are pretty ubiquitous and much cheaper than LEDs and modern manufactured bulbs are going to be plenty bright enough. They aren't sucking power from your wall so energy savings aren't a factor. They give a more period correct look if that's what you're going for with your specific build. If you don't care about that and want to buy LEDs more power to you, they definitely have a lot of good aspects, but it's not a "must do" thing.

If you are not at wide open throttle, the throttle body (butterfly valve) is the primary air restriction in the intake so I don't think cutting open the airbox is going to yield much unless you are driving around with your foot all the way to the floor all the time. This mod has been discussed many times with marginal gains, if any. Maybe along with the airfoil you are getting more results than others who have cut their airboxes, it's certainly possible. If there were massive gains o be had, I don't think they would have designed it the way they did, leaving free horsepower sitting right there on the table.
@tomtom724 жыл бұрын
Yes, check out the ZR-1 forum. We did chassis dyno tests a loooong time ago and found no measurable results. The cut lid is cool, but you need to do a screen over the cut as the C4 is a major bottom breather and will suck up anything on the road. Also look to protect the air intake openings at the underside of the fr bumper. Look over at the ZR-1 net registry site for a list of simple preventative mods or go to the ZR-1 forum and look around for the tech tips. Save the Wave!

Upgrade it to becoming a flex fuel vehicle, fully compatible with ethanol not just as a minor ingredient in gasoline but as a fuel in its own right. The eFlexPlus 85 kit costs $749. Ethanol is ultra high octane, higher than even premium. Runs cooler, emits no soot, far less gunk in your fuel tank or fuel lines (once it loosens up the gasoline gunk; replace your fuel filters for the first tank or two til all the gasoline crud is gone). Domestic, 90% from family farms, renewable. And oh by the way hasn't been subsidized in over 10 years but it's still cheaper per gallon and often per mile, especially when compared with premium gasoline which is really the most valid comparison

Thank you for this video. Unrelated to this video. I am military overseas in Germany. I need to replace the radiator. Can you recommend a good place to purchase? From all the reading I want to replace with an aluminum 3 coil one. What are your thoughts? So hard to find parts out here so any recommendations would be grateful.

The oil from the K&N filter only damages the MAF sensor if you over oil the filter. Also if it does, all you have to do is clean it with MAF sensor cleaner. (Don’t use brake parts cleaner. Some damages plastics)

Just for kicks, replace the cassette deck with either MiniDisc or Digital Compact Cassette. They were 90s tech but better fit the 80s retro futuristic vibe of the C4

I lived in Utah for 2 years I know that road, passes right by Saratoga springs. Idk but if you have the chance take a ride down to the end of the road there’s a cool abandoned gas station and some old cool bikes

Cutting that air filter vent is a good way to let splash water get into your engine. Be very careful driving with this mod.

i just bought an 84 C4 corvette with the crossfire injection. and literally the day after i blew a coolant hose... any tips or tricks to keep the temperatures down? not so much interested in the HP/torq. i just want to keep her cool.

The 'high flow' air filters are suitable for short term use in racing applications only. They do flow a tiny bit more air but it's all due to reduced filtration capacity. Pick up an OEM air filter and you can't get a better product anywhere in terms of optimized filtration versus airflow. You can destroy your piston rings in just couple k's of driving with a 'performance' filter. It's a terrible deal for two extra hp. If you know what you're doing and perform the correct measurements you might be able to improve airflow by modifying the airbox or its cold air feed. But even then you have to understand the physics of it - otherwise you're only hurting your performance.

I just went to the Amazon link for the led bulbs... It says that those bulbs you recommended do not fit my 1990 C4 under the hood... The ones that they recommend do not mention fitting the sockets under the hood. Any ideas???
@ReynoldsRides4 жыл бұрын
It said the same thing for my ‘89 but I bought them anyway. I mainly went off the measurements and they are a perfect fit. I tried a set from Super Bright LEDs and they said it would fit my ‘89 but they didn’t at all. Not even close.

Take the frisbee off the pulley. Another free mod that adds 5-10 HP. All these smalls mods add up to something you can feel.

Dyno tests have shown it's basically zero difference. It likely made the car slightly leaner or richer when you bolted it on, once the block learn made corrections there was most likely less than a 1-2 hp difference. Even professional race car drivers cannot feel anything less than 15-20 hp in seat of the pants, so odds are what you felt is sort of a placebo effect, this has been beat to death. Just saying.

Great video! What color is your vette? It looks like a Navy Blue, or is it black and it is just the blue sky reflecting off it? Looks great. Now you need to add a not so cheap, but totally awesome mod... a big block!

Not sure if you get a credit but used your links to buy the air foil and privacy screen retainer. I’m probably going to pass on the LEDs under the hood but I did buy some LED headlights and wondering your thoughts on LEDs for interior lights?

I've done the exhaust Cat-Back I've removed the screen from the mass air flow sensor and I'd hollered out my airbox for air filter put in the k&n what would be your guesstimate the horsepower again?

@@ReynoldsRides what's worse is only 2,000 in years 2000-2009 and 0 since. Raced a bunch, 4 engines, 4 transmissions and 3 rear ends since I bought it. Oh and 3 different sets of wheels, 3 sets of front tires and about 20 sets of rear tires, mostly drag radials. (500 miles a set or 12 runs down the 1/4 whatever came first)

Just FYI, no offense but be careful with pressure washing your c4, it's easy to zap your clear coat if you're too close to a high powered commercial pw. Also your motor needs a wash and detail, it's a great looking motor when done right!
