The Ballad of the Cats has always been one of my favourite creations of C418. It has that air of desolation of the place where it is the BGM for, and it also has a bit of a sad feel to it as well, as if it is screaming "YOU ARE IN HELL" without actually saying it. The title at first made me think it was cheerful, but now I know it to be one of the darkest things in existence.

Dear god this played perfectly when I first entered the new Basalt Delta biome- it grew more and more and reached its intense melody as the snow of ash rained down in the air around me. All nether music has a certain theme--Concrete Halls being intimidating, Warmth and Dead Voxel feel mysterious, and this piece feels desolate, as you're completely alone in this hell.
@lynrel28852 жыл бұрын
concrete halls represents witherskeletons roaming the barron fortress, for eternity, warmth represents the blazes doing yet the same, dead voxel represents zombie piglins and ballad of the cats represents the poor lonely ghasts
@browners0556 жыл бұрын
What if every Nether song was from one of the four main Nether mobs (excluding the wither skeleton)? Dead Voxel is the magma cube, because it's a fiery cube burning eternally in the Nether. Concrete Halls is the Zombie Pigman, roaming the nether fortress, searching for a lost hope. Warmth is the Blaze, flaming and shooting hot fireballs at everything in its path. Plus, the metallic sounds heard at the start are the cries of the Blaze. Finally, the Ballad of the Cats, the most emotional of the bunch, is the ghasts, crying away, separated from the Overworld. Plus, the ghasts's sounds are made from C418's cat.

This perfectly captures the hollowness and loneliness of the Nether. Sure, it's got fire and lava and deadly creatures, but the unchanging landscape, the empty caves with only lava to meet you at the bottom. What really gets you is the insanity of being lost. The panic. The nothingness. The constant feeling you're not welcome. Those ghastly noises resonating in your brain. It all builds up, seeming to go on forever, to never stop the pain. Until before you know it you're thrown off a cliff, into a pool of lava. By something, someone, maybe yourself, if you can still call this mind yourself. Your soul tormented. And you finally find peace in death. That is what the Nether can really do. This is what hell is.

Same here.. I think it incapsulates everything that nether is... And that chilling part I think is at it's best when you go to the nether for your first time.. Same goes for the rest of the song.. It's like the entire dimension is crying to you for help, but that crying sounds more like an attempt to fill you with agony, dread, hell and death.. Which is what the nether is thematically.. Even though i have a feeling going by the melancholic undertones of the soundtrack that it was forced into being like this, and it has no way to change, so it has to be like this for all of eternity, even though it never wanted to be... The nether in my opinion isn't just my or your hell, but it is it's own hell...

It starts off as if your in the nether, and the souls of people who have lost their lives and were trapped there whisper and make creepy voices and noises, then at 1:00, the music begins. Your player is lost in the nether, the portal has seemingly disappeared in the maze of mountains and the maze off hallways in the nether fortress. You begin to panic, and you run around, hearing creepy noises at 3:30. You run around, not knowing where the portal was. Your tools began to lose durability as you used them less and less. You eventually , come to a stop at a broken bridge. You look around, a lake of lava beneath you. The sounds of lost souls fill your ears as you jump, landing inches from the lake. The pigmen jump in alarm, but they don't attack. They just stare at you for a second, then look away. You get up and turn the corner, and you see the portal atop a hill. You enter it, your shoulder hurting from the fall. You enter your world, away from the nether. You had nightmares of ghosts and fire for a while, but you eventually became less afraid of the fire and cries of ghasts. Thats what I imagine when I hear this song.

This song captures the feeling of being lost in the Nether. You can't find the one way to return home, monsters surround you in these boiling wastes, chunks of living lava and charred black bones ready to tear you apart. Carefully watching your step as to not anger the rotting pig carcasses that call these lands home, and the ceaseless cries of great white beasts floating in the cavernous skies above, the only familiarity with the world you know comes in the thin black forms of the Endermen, who taunt you with their ability to leave this hellish land whenever they so desire. So, with the Nether Update approaching, I feel that this music is PERFECT for the Soul Sand Valley biome. The song, combined with the ominous ambient screams you hear while in there just summarizes the feeling of loneliness and desolation the biome and the song gives you. Hell, I'd say the other 3 songs fit pretty well with the other 3 biomes. Concrete Halls is for the Nether Wastes, being the classic Nether we all know and love. Dead Voxel fits well with the Nether Forest, since it captures the feeling of hope and sympathy as the Piglins that spawn there try to make a home for themselves. And Warmth fits well for the Warped forest, since it's odd tone and strange background noises fit the Enderman infested area perfectly.

Picture this: You step through the portal, into an unexplored, fiery hell. Your first order of business: find a nether fortress. After a few minutes of wandering around you see the ominous nether brick walls of a fortress, built seemingly stranded in the middle of an endless ocean of lava. Only two things stand in your way: the lava ocean and the massive netherrack mountain in front of you. You realize digging through the mountain would be less risky than crossing all that lava. You grab your diamond pick, sweat streaming from your face, and begin cutting your way through the netherrack. After what seemed like years, you finally make it through the mountain, exhausted. You take a look around. Something’s wrong. The fortress should be here, right in front of you. It isn’t. You walk around, shoulders and arms sore from the previous mining. You do your best to find where the fortress should be. No luck. Finally giving up, you turn around to go back from where you came. You turn around to find unfamiliar terrain. You don’t see where the tunnel you dug is. Heart pounding, you run around, desperate to find anything familiar. *You are lost.* Lost in an endless hell. Ballad of the Cats begins to play. This world knows you’re lost, and wants you to know it too. You continue, sprinting now, to something, _anything, that could point you to home. Nothing, You are stuck here. You are quickly running out of food. You have eaten all your cooked consumables, and must resort to eating rotten flesh. Ballad of the Cats is pounding in your ears. Your sweat evaporates before it even hits the ground. Your fear is overwhelming. You sit down, terrified and exhausted. You realize the sad truth: _*_You are going to die here, in this fiery hell, alone._*_ You suddenly hear a screech behind you. You know what it is. You quickly turn around to defend yourself. You aren’t quick enough. The fireball explodes on the ground beneath you. You are sent flying into the air, off a cliff. The lava below waits for you, beckons_ you. You know what will come next. You scream in agony as you drown in the lava’s fiery clutches. Ballad of the Cats continues to play. You die a slow and fiery death, your items spilling out and burning into nothing. This place, *this hell,* has consumed you. To anyone reading this: Tread lightly, fellow traveler. Many have been lost here, consumed by the flames. Do not be foolish enough to join them.

This is by far and away one of my favorite ambient music tracks ever. C418 did a master's job with Minecraft, and pretty much all of it is spot-on for the game.

I know it sounds cringe, but the nether music genuinely makes me emotional. I don't know what it is, but it's just so beautiful. I've had such a bad day and this song feels so beautiful. Thank you C418.

I love how the nether songs are a cycle of hope and despair, this song is the best example of that. It's like even in Hell it feels like there is hope. And the hope builds up but ultimately falls. It's a story in a song.

Yeah, it's pretty crazy how they adjusted the sound of their cat meowing, and used it as the sound effects for Ghasts. That's a pretty random thing to do, even if it does make it easier to understand the meaning of the song title.

This is song I remember playing when I found myself lost in the Nether when playing the 1.12.2 update. All I had was some wood for bowls and had to scavenge for red and brown mushrooms lying around the Nether. I was able to find my way back home, but it was still an ordeal that I don't think I'll ever forget.

I played 2b2t for the first time. i hopped on the nether and traveled almost 2 million blocks, after 200k blocks the music starts getting inside of your head and you start to think how empty and vastness the nether is. Ive seen a lot of signs saying "hi', "welcome to 500k". After awhile those signs were no where to be seen. You start to feel lonely and realize that there is no one even close to you, the roads transition from 4 blocks to a mere 1 , Hundreds of thousands blocks away probably even millions from the closest living thing. Ive heard the music for 3 days straight while on the walk, its a masterpiece

So, the name "ballad of the cats" and the creepy music and sounds makes me imagine...a cat that looked like stampy. I think it was stampy. Like a ghostly cat, one that stared at you with its green eyes. I pretty much just imagined a ghostly stampy. In the nether fortress. And the creepy sounds that sound like voices at 0:40 and 0:45 are his spirit making creepy sounds. Then, the music makes me imagine other cats, kinda like the ones I drew in 4th grade. They stand on two legs like people. Dont judge me, that was a long time ago. They stare at you as you stand in the hallway. At 2:25, you can hear their crys in the distance. Kinda a creepy cat thing. It's called ballad of the cats, so.... cats. Yeah. They just stare and make creepy noises. That's all they do.
