This is my favorite piece of music in the Minecraft OST. It's able to capture just how empty and alone the world feels, especially the End. It's just you, alone in the void with the endermen. The piece begins with a familiar, although slightly distorted, piece of music, offering the player a sense of hope in the new dimension they discovered. A hope almost reflecting that of a lone survivor trying to find evidence of other life. Then at 1:13 the lighthearted and familiar piece stops, giving in to the stress created by the player and the endless expanse of the void. There's almost nothing for three minutes. Then the familiar music begins again. I like to think of the different leitmotifs playing throughout the piece as an announcement to the player that this is the End. There's no more. All of the player's past experiences, represented by the different familiar songs played throughout the piece, have led up to this moment. In addition to the slightly distorted music, there's a constant ringing of distorted noise in the background, constantly getting louder as the piece continues. The ringing continues until 9:30, where the player gives into the stress that they have been carrying exploring this dimension. There's no hope of other life existing. It all stops at 9:48. For the next couple of minutes, wind chimes and ominous background ringing begins to build again. At 11:40 sounds can be heard that seem as though they are being played backwards. Then a buzzing of some sort, being stopped once the first note of Minecraft plays. Each note of Minecraft is held out much longer than in the original song. Then another new ringing begins, this one quicker than the last. The last two minutes of the song seem to represent the players eventual spiral into insanity while exploring the End. Then all of the entire progression of the piece stops abruptly. Minecraft plays again, similarly to how it played in the beginning of the song, except this time it begins to skip, almost like how nightmares sometimes repeat themselves. The music is then stopped by what seems to be a person, and is quickly taken out of a cassette player, almost as if it were all a dream and the person may have been listening to the cassette while sleeping. This piece is a perfect representation of the End, which is not as evidently connected to real life as the Overworld (Earth) and the Nether (Hell). This piece helps to define the End as a dreamscape, one that is especially nightmarish.

To me, this music is a clue, that Endermans were the ancient builders(watch Game Theory). This music represents Endermans, that once were a player, just like us, but trapped in the end dimension. "Steve held the final Eye of Ender in his hand. He hesitated. One last check in the chests. One last look up the entry shaft to see the last bit of sunlight fall below its zenith. Would he ever return? Would he find what he was looking for on the other side of the portal? Is he really all alone? He had built his entire life in this world. He went to hell and back and yet something pulled at him. Urging him to leave this world once more. Something telling him he wasn't alone and that he has a higher purpose that must be fulfilled. He opened his hand to reveal the Eye of Ender and looked over to the portal. As he placed it, a blackness opened up. He stared deeply into it. He saw himself. He saw eyes. He saw life and death. "There's more than just me," he thought. He readied his sword and bow, and checked his armor and supplies once more. With the bravery of legends, he stepped into the abyss. After a long battle with the dragon and an onslaught of angered Endermen, the final portal appeared. The egg of the great dragon was in Steve's hand. "THERE HAS TO BE MORE THAN ME!" he screamed. In that moment he realized that his world was a small part of a larger world. He wondered if that world was part of an even larger one. He wondered if they were infinite. He knew he wasn't alone and that he may never see the one that guided him, but he knew that they were there. Once again he stepped into an unknown darkness, but awoke in his bed." *cut to the end credits with the conversation of the two beings*

No remaining signs of technology or societal progress aside from some mineshafts. At night the world is overrun by zombies and skeletons. Creepers roam the land and exist solely to destroy other lifeforms. It's pretty apocalyptic, and that's just the story-less survival mode.

The End, in my opinion, is Mojang’s interpretation of where we temporarily go when we die. We relive our moments, and hear a faint distant melody that is nostalgic but not too clear. It’s a form of purgatory that tethers us in and out of consciousness. It’s the exchange of life and death, an equilibrium. We await our fate, and press on unknowing what will become of us. It goes to show that, in death, we can still be lost as we once were when we were alive.

Didnt even realise is was Sweeden, its so different, but now I see it. Now that I listen to it, it seems that C418 did similar thing to what Howard Shore did with Shire theme throughout LoTR. Taking a motif that sounds like home, and then breaking it apart to the point where it can be recognized but it is now lost and can't find its footing anymore, just going in circles trying to somehow get back to where it was until it simply gives up. Pretty damn accurate given this is supposed to play in the End. Damn C418, very nice.

This song makes me think of Limbo. A place where everything is distorted, time and space is warped. I feel like I'm waking up on a plane with no where to go, then falling through memories and experiences until I'm left in a void. I have dreams with this music. I feel like I'm transported to a broken world. Abandoned. Lost. Dark. Empty. I fall through memories of the past and fears of the future, looking back as I watch the endless universe. I then am transported to a dream world. A world of my own to call home. My thoughts swirling around me. Walking around in my own creations. Wondrous. What is this? What do I think? How can this happen? Are you even real? Is this a dream? A nightmare? A vision? I'm faced with a question. What is the answer? How do I answer? Where do I go? How can I survive? Am I dead? Am I alive? Am I asleep? Or am I awake? I give an answer. Nothing. Black. Then I feel the congratulations of a thousand people. Cheering like I'm a war hero. A party on the streets of a city. Loud applause. I look around. Everyone is cheering. I approach a man. He says, "You have answered the question of life. You have done what so many others cannot. You defeated Death himself. Consider that." I smile as I fall asleep and my world passes away from me. Endless expanse. The universe laid before me. Thoughts fly out before me. Drifting into nothing.

After hours, days, weeks, months of exploring you've prepared to slay the Ender Dragon for the first time, you're excited and nervous, you jump in the portal and spawn on the obsidian blocks. Your heart rate goes up because you've landed on the spot where you're only surrounded by the endless void. You start building towards the island, take out the crystals and eventually kill the dragon. You collect the XP, get the dragon egg and you're now more excited then ever to find the End City ship for the Elytra. You throw an Ender pearl and you spawn, spawn on one of the endless amounts of islands. The soundtrack starts playing and you're confused. Where is the End city? You walk, walk far away from your first island. Build from island to island, full with fear of falling into the void. You can't seem to find an End City, you're hesitating to go back, but you're stuck. You forgot the location of your portal and since you've traveled so far, your only hope is to find an End City or another portal to get out. You continue wandering, forever, and there's only one simple way out. Falling into the darkness of the void.

The End, a fitting title for sure. It's the final step, the overworld left behind with nothing but an empty space, the journey nearing its final moments, and the music almost having nothing else to offer. It's as if The End itself is completely void of everything, the complete opposite of everything else that had something. Everything comes to an end here, and there's no going back...

The End is only death, and the dragon only a physical manifestation of our fear of it. By killing it, we feel as if we've overcome the inevitable. Imagine if the end was buggy af, on purpose. and imagine the terrain was flat, but there were way more pillars and they were all HUGE. sometimes there would be missing obsidian textures, flashes of the dragon like the elder guardian, sometimes you'd automatically go into the dragons perspective for a tiny amount of time, sometimes a falling object more powerful then an anvil would fall in a random spot near you, at times you'd be immediately looking straight up without control, as if you were teleported to be looking in a different direction, sometimes time would literally freeze or back up and your screen would turn black and white... what you could do is pretty much endless. you could make a void particle cloud common, and it would do strange things, etc etc. BUT, only if you had the music on, or something like that.

+Alweer “EenGameKanaaltje” Een how about.. the dragon created the end because the nether was invaded by the wither, and the overworld was invaded by players. also in 1.9 the end isn't just the island, it also includes the second dimension, the one with the chorus plants and stuff. so maybe the dragon created that dimension, but he also included another to guard the first one from invasion, like it was a decoy. the dragon himself stayed behind to make sure nobody that isn't allowed gets through.

This song, although I cannot depict what it represents, (everyone tries, but it just ends up being a random explanation without any basis) I can, however, say that this song makes me think about reality and how it all works. It makes me think of how all of the laws of the Universe all tie together and make everything operate. It makes me think of how all of reality that we experience is just data all composed in our brain and how we will truly never know what reality outside our human mind is like. We can only ever speculate. This song reminds me of all of this and as a result, I end up speculating about everything. This is why I like this song.

I don't reccomend listening to this before going to sleep. I listened to this at night and when I went to sleep I had a dream that I was with my mom and my grandma in a tall ass hotel with 100 floors and we were on specifically the 30th floor. Somehow we get a message from something somewhere that there is something wrong with floor 14 so we try to leave by taking the elevator down. For some reason, we try to stop at the 14th floor, and the elevator glitches or breaks and an alarm goes and we begin falling to our death. We fall for a long time, slowly speeding up the entire time, and I'm sitting in the corner crying while my mom and grandma out of all people are COMPLETELY calm trying to push buttons that could stop the elevator. All of a sudden there is nothing and I hear/imagine 9:48 and wake up at 4am in a cold sweat. I would have never thought that this song could be nightmare fuel. Btw I only remember dreams like once a year.

I'm not as big of a Minecraft fan as I use to be (ironic enough with my name), but this song is so amazing, I had to come back. It's like a representation of fear and the feeling of being alone (since in singleplayer, the only human is you). It's the realization that you've explored every universe, every biome, and you realize that it's only you.

When I heard this music, I automatically changed my mood in a very calm and meditative mood. I clearly heard all the other Minecraft pieces, played in a slow and kind of distorted way. I always liked such ambient music. It's really relaxing. But at one part in this song, it suddenly felt like the entire world... no the entire reality turned upside down. A really interesting effect to me. It's at the part which starts at 8:06. The part before it is already building up on something. But then, I just threw away all my other thoughts and only concentrated on this music, even closed my eyes and turned off all the lights. I only wanted to fix on this music because it is telling me something and I wanted to understand it. I suddenly felt...really wierd. I felt something like an infinite emptieness in my body. The music is telling me the following: How unnecessary the universe, no, the entire reality and existence and *everything* what it contains actually is. I am searching for a purpose, that's all. But if you think about it you will realize that there is no purpose visible. A purpose to go to school, to work. A purpose to make sure that you always feel good. A purpose for the entire life. If I imagine what this universe is hiding or maybe not hiding, I feel like I and so much more in this world is nothing but worthless. Only the thought of what I am doing or for what I am doing something is nothing but..well...nothing important or relevant. What is the reason for all "that". I can't even name it. It's just "that" to me. When did "that" started and why? When will "that" end and why? Is there actually a God who created and controlls everything? But wait...when did God started then...and why? Wouldn't God himself just be part of this entire "that"? In a way you could say that it's logically impossible that existence is able to exist. What is time to us? Time is a thing which explains age and it's a way of orientiation for us humans. But now look at that. When was the beginning of time? When was the beginning of existence? Reality? How can there be a possible beginning. The question will be always: "What was before that?" Can we answer to that? No, in no way we can. This isn't some kind of video game we're in, right? This is the reality we live in, but how can it be so unrealistic? Maybe the word "realistic" is overused here. The reality itsself is one of the most illogical phenomena in this bare existence. There is no way that time can have a defineable start. Neither a defineable ending. The Big Bang wasn't the start. God wasn't the start. Nothing was the start, there's always something before that. If there's a wall at some point then there must be something behind this wall. It's the same with space. It seems to be infinite. It's logically totally impossible that the universe ends at some points. Or rather, that existence ends somewhere. Existence and reality is infinite, so is time. Yet it's impossible to have a start of all everything what exists. Where does the universe expand into? Another universe? Where does this one expand into? You see what I mean? All these things make our world we live in so irrelevant. The very absence of logic is what makes everything, *everything* in this existence so irrelevant. Nothing what exists is based on any kind of reasoning or purpose. Humans think and try to express something as a reason to live or to find out what the meaning of life is. But there's the point. There simply is no reason and no meaning. Humans are being too optimistic and will face a lot of disappointment at some point. At some point they're dead and everything they have lived for, everything they have done and achieved in life will get meaningless. Death is one of the things which make life itssef the most unnecesary thing. The moment you're dead, you lose everything you ever had in life. At some point, even if they had answers to all the secrets in this form of reality and everything else around it, it will have no meaning at all. You feel good in your life. So what? You might even die and go to heaven, where you can live the way you ever wished for. So what? No once cares. You're just a single one of an infinite amount of aspects in this reality. You still only feel good, there's no purpose behind it other than you *thinking* that you have fun like that. The Minecraft world (rather any video game out there, but let's stick with Minecraft) fits well here and it explains it all simple and quickly. You build houses, farms and defense. What for? Nothing. You eat, you sleep, you dig for minerals. For what? Nothing. You discover new places, you fight monsters, you gain experience. For what? Nothing. In the end you will leave the game and everything you did will be meaningless to you. The universe in Minecraft has absolutely no purpose. It's just there and everything else in it is just there too. There's nothing special about it, nothing abnormal. That's how reality, existence, time, etc. is like. It's just there, for no reason or purpose. In the end, you still did everything for nothing. The words "importance", "duty", "tasks" automatically lose their meaning. After listening to the music, gaining this enlightment for myself, I am feeling many feelings at the same time. Sadness and frustration in a strong way. I feel helpless, hopeless and weak. That's what I am. I am not even of the size of an electron compared to the size of reality. But also it is so beautiful in a wierd way. It's emotional, it's mysterious and it's exciting. It's the first time that I had such a view on the reality in this way. It changed my mind alot about so many things. Morals, ethics, norms, values, *common sense*. All of it loses its meaning suddenly. I can't really change something else but my mind, yet I also could discovered my mind in new ways. To be honest, now that I think of it, I always wondered what the idea of Minecraft was. Maybe it was very simple one, but it turned out to be a very very deep thought for many people like me, which is almost like a message. Now think, would I change my mind if I had an answer to all my questions? Would I even *be able* to do it? I don't think so. The question about an entire purpose for everything just isn't there and will never be there. Still, I wish I could have answers once, maybe in another life, in another existence period, in another reality. Eventhough I would most likely not understand it at all.

Boa Hancock Boa...I agree with you 100%! I could NOT have worded that any better! This music is different! This music stands out from all the rest! From 4:30 - 5:30, we can hear "Dry Hands" playing in the background! This is my favorite part & it intriges me the most, because it makes me think of Minecraft's past! Earlier versions, the world-famous "Glacier" seed from Beta & even the Cave Game! It all just feels like...eerie, dark remnants of the past!

No, the Universe isn't unnecessary, the reason why it exists is precisely because it is necessary, otherwise we would not be here talking about it.
@BoaDHancock10 жыл бұрын
Drednaught How can you even say, talking or thinking about is necessary. I didn't meant necessary for us. I meant in general. For us, everything might be necessary and actually it is. *(From here, feel free to skip this part)* Everything in the Universe or whatever we are in is combined to a large system. Without this system, our Universe or whatever couldn't exist. Existence is the headline for this system. But now it gets interesting. Existence has no definable start and so does time, which is part of existence. Us humans always assume a "befor", because it would just be natural. It is like a wall. Something must be behind this wall. This would explain the eternity of the universe or whatever it is. But also it does make existence completely impossible, or better, it is a big fault in our reality. The real reality is suddenly less of real than anything else. So where is the start of all that and who let it begin? That God do all this? But wait...when did God started? It is impossible to be always there. You can't be born in the past. Human logic may be not considere as high intelligence, but tell me, how could any other species ever answer better to this. It doesn't matter how intelligent you are, you always will get to this conclusion, because there is no other way to think about it, unless you knew how everything actually happened. *(Read from here again if you skipped)* Now I told you all this about reality, intelligence and God but you know what? It wasn't necessary at all. Would it matter if I had done it or not? Would it change your life so much? Even if we had answers to all those questions, how do you think, it will mean anything. If all this were in a game and we completed it to 100%, what then? Do we feel better then? Will we get rewarded or will we get rewarded for it? The truth is, it's not even necessary, if it was necessary. Do you realize what I mean? It is just like an eternal loop which would never end.

This music alone just gives such a deeper meaning to Minecraft than anyone would think. It’s as if the world is corrupted. Especially 8:06, my gosh. Speed it up to 2x speed and listen. You’ll hear the Sweden theme, but the pitch is lower. Also, at 12:12, you can hear a distorted Minecraft theme, one that can’t even be normal at 2x speed. When I hear this, I picture an astronaut in deep, deep space, possibly in a black hole, working against time to save humanity. This beautiful game is an experience. A never-ending experience.

With the intro to this somg, it gives me a feeling that The End wasn't an intentional addition to the Minecraft universe, rather it was simply...there. It's always been there, but it's been 'leaking' somewhat. The Endermen roaming the Overworld, leaving their own dimension for who knows what. And you, as the player, have to find the way into The End to vanquish the Ender Dragon, and stop The End from harming anyone and anything.

This song is truly just an extension of the End Poem. It keeps repeating one message, a message about how it's time to stop running away from the real world to live in this dream. Stop trying to relive this dream over and over again, stop reloading the worlds, stop restarting the game. Stop. Go live your life. You are the player, the player has everything. live it. don't throw it away for a dream. Wake up.
