the technical reason this song and other mc soundtracks are “nostalgic” is bc they have a TON of seventh chords instead of just major or minor. and seventh chords make the music sound fuller and more emotional
@arcanedegree94954 жыл бұрын
oo nice explanation. How did u know or learn abt this? and also i dont think its jus the chords, its also our memories made in Minecraft that at the end of the day truly make us feel nostalgic while listening to these songs
@TheCicada4 жыл бұрын
The chords and chord progressions in c418 songs are all very new and experimental, even with the more normal ones like the 7th or 9th. The real nostalgia, I think, comes from the memories you make listening to these songs. When you first hear them, you don't immediately feel nostalgic. It's just that now minecraft has been around over a decade.

It's a weird soundtrack. One person said it would be more suited to the End, and that the Nether music should be more upbeat and intense, to reflect one's experiences in the Nether. However, this song, to me, is not for those who are new to the Nether. This is for those who know exactly what it is. Players who have done everything, seen everything in the Nether. As they make their way back to the portal from a mining trip for quartz, they stop and turn to see the vast landscape of Hell. They've not looked at it for ages, since they are so used to the idea of it, and have only ever, as of late, needed to go down that one route to go to that one vein of quartz. They usually glimpse it with little emotion, apart from the underlying sense of danger. But this time, it's different. The only other time they've looked at this landscape in this way was the first time they ever entered the Nether, worlds and updates ago. Then, the feelings were that of fear, wonder, awe. Now, as they look over what they thought they were used to seeing, those feelings are felt once again, suppressed under the sheer number of trips made to the realm, but powerful enough to be acknowledged. The Nether truly is beautiful, in it's own way, they realise. That last revelation is reflected in the mid-section of the song, where the volume increases. But that suddenly stops, since the player questions itself: how can Hell be so beautiful? Beauty is found in nostalgia, and when one truly appreciates the Nether for what it is, they can find that nostalgia, that beauty. When this song plays in the Nether, those are my thoughts. I find a cliff, and outcropping, a beach of soul-sand, and I just stare into the endless abyss of lava and fire. I recommend you do the same, for the music, accompanied with the realisation of the beauty of the Nether, can bring true bliss - just for a second - but a second to hold on to, to cherish.

I interpret this as being a sort of ballad to evil. I don't believe being evil is entirely the person's fault. Dead Voxel is easily the best Nether soundtrack. The music itself is really slow and eerie, but rather peaceful. The ambient noises of distant echoes and a deep humming, plus the echos of boiling lava, bubbling and dripping. This infinite chasm is dark, empty, hopeless, and you’re all alone in this dead world.
@kremlinbasement77683 жыл бұрын
Yep for nether
@quartzica2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, alright, I’ll say it. This is my favorite song from the entire Minecraft soundtrack. There’s a lot of reasons why I like this song in particular. The overall structure, going from ambience to a cohesive and strong melody and then back to ambience. The instruments, the shockingly comforting piano, the grand and full background noise, the faint ticking noise near the beginning of the song, the harsh yet melodic synths, the faint guitar you can hear as soon as the music starts to fade back into quiet ambience. The way in which it has always felt so fitting when it plays in-game, letting me pause and stare over the twisted and hellish landscape as the sound of bubbling lava in the background gradually becomes louder. The way the song itself seems to shift and sigh. But the thing I have to say I like most about this song is just… the emotion it invokes. It’s hard to explain; I saw another commenter describe it as an “emotion that doesn’t exist,” which is pretty accurate. It has this sense of mourning, yet it has this hope to it, and behind all of that there’s this warmth. This song manages to still feel warm, like you’re still surrounded by something alive and breathing, even while every other part of the song feels like you’re staring at a decimated landscape and mourning what may have once been there before. And it’s calm, and accepting, too. It feels like so many feelings at once that come together to form one bigger emotion which you just can’t describe. And above all, I think that’s why I love this song so much. Because it’s so indescribably beautiful. (I apologize if that was a bit rambly. I was really just pouring out my thoughts, but I hope this half-conscious analysis could mean something to you.)

1:05 exactly what you came here for Walking through those long hallways, looking for ghasts, blazes, hopefully not running into one of the wither skeletons. Peacefully running through that new vast place looking at those pigmen and playing around with them. Those times in 2013 messing around with all your freinds or maybe even the villagers. When you found out about the nether you went straight to the mines to grab that obsidian. You tell your friend and they come over to explore this new beautiful place of hell but the music makes it better. 4 months later the game has been revived to it's formal glory and we're back playing with our freinds like back in the good days.... This game has brought us all together it had been so much for us this soundtrack is still great and reminds me of the good times. It puts a smile on my face. This game truly has been our childhood. We will embrace this game for years to come. We will tell our children and our grandkids on day about our journeys. Hopefully this game is still alive around that time. This was the game that brought us together. We love you Minecraft. A year later now a new update on minecraft has happend a update for the nether. I haven't played it alot yet so I dont know if this sound track is still in. But the new nether update has made the nether look so much better new mobs, new biome, and new items. It looks alot better and with these sound tracks it's even better. It makes you think a bit. Brings you to reality the game that will go down in history. Thank you minecraft for all you do. I wrote this long lore idea I had for minecraft, but long story short I had the Nether once resemble a lush cave biome, but even more... well... lush. The piglins were once a race of player-like villagers who built the strongholds and fortresses, and the lava lake was once a fish-filled ocean. Furthermore, I added that killing the wither allows the Nether to revert to this state- it takes centuries, long after the player dies, but it happens. I wrote something similar for the End, having it's original state take after the Aether. The Ender Dragon corrupted it, turning it's populace into Endermen forced to worship her and twisted the scenery and creatures that once lived there. Killing the ender dragon also allows for a slow reversion to happen. I added the parts about reversion for hope- I always had that feeling of the Nether and End once being closer to the overworld, and I had some weird sense of nostalgia just from that theory. Creating a condition to allow those worlds to return gave me a feeling of catharsis

Well actually in the Indev version of mineraft you can go create a new world the set the world type to "Hell" and you'll actually spawn on hell but it has normal trees, overworld terrain. It's just that netherrack replaced dirt/grass, and there's so much lava surrounding you. So you might be right.

People say this song is very despairing and hopeless but I find it beautiful. It makes me cry listening to C418’s Nether songs because of the nostalgia hearing these songs that I’ve listened to since a child but not just that. It’s truly beautiful the church music reflects the Nether perfectly and words just can’t put it together. This song is deeply pieced together and it’s just beautiful.

If you notice, all Minecraft musics (Specially those from The nether and The end) Are really melancholic. Didnt you ever thinked why the dragon is the final boss? Because he/she created The nether and the end. Those dimensions were similar to the Overworld, and the Dragon corrupted them and transformed to what is today. Another soundtrack from the end starts like normal minecraft music, and then it corrupts and is melancholic and empty. And the Dragon wants to do the same with the a Overworld, thats why he/she sends mobs for killing you and villagers. You are the only ones who can destroy him/her. Seriusly, This game has lot of potential lore, and no one looks interested

This song... It's fucking brilliant, for one thing. It manages to capture an emotion that does not exist. It makes pure evil, hell itself, look breathtaking. In the context of Minecraft itself, to me, this song tells a story of a player who has just stormed his first nether fortress. He feels stressed, tired, and creeped out as ever. He sits on the balcony of the fortress, staring into the eyes of the ever-forboding Ghasts and the mindless hordes of Zombie Pigmen. But then, as he looks into the landscape of hell itself for long enough, he gets a strange feeling. He feels... calm. And this is where the mid-section, the piano part, starts to play. He has seen this landscape many times before; the first time he came through the portal, scared and frightened as ever; the many, menial trips he made to mine quartz, teleport to farther destinations back in the Overworld, and to find the nether fortress. But this time it feels different. He just keeps staring at the seemingly endless sea of lava below, and begins to wonder. He wonders about the eerie, feminine cries of the Ghasts, and the endless, mindless wandering of the Zombie Pigmen. He wonders about the origins of this hellscape; the Ghasts, the Pigmen, and the fortress itself. He thinks to himself, "Why?" "What came before? Before the lava, before the mobs, before... me?" He wonders more and more, and begins to feel... sympathy. For what he percieves as pure evil, he now feels sorry for these lonely, desolate creatures. The Ghasts... are they crying... for help? The pigmen... they just wander aimlessly for all eternity, only coming together and showing one last drop of consciousness when he attacks them. He wonders: "Could they be... ghosts? Of players who came before me, but failed? "Is this what I will become one day?" He cries over these thoughts, but after a while, begins to look on the positive side of this mysterious, exciting realm. He thinks about the future. It is then that he promises to himself to not become like the pigmen, to leave a legacy, to fulfill a purpose. And to find answers to what came before him. "There has to be more than me, there has to!" And with that, with a newfound appreciation for the Nether Realm, he journeys back home, through the same, treacherous route as many times before, preparing for his next adventure.

This is the most beautiful soundtrack i have ever heared. After some years, i started playing minecraft again. When i heared this song i teared up. I always loved this soundtrack. This one and "Warmth". It means so much to me, it brings so many memories. It is the perfect song for a place like the Nether. The Nether hides a beautiful story. How can Hell be so beautiful? The endless lava oceans, the crismon mountains and islands. The lone fortresses. All the mobs living in peace. The Nether is my favorite dimension. The harmony, the peace, the continuity of it all. I spend hours in the Nether, finding my inner peace and listening to all of its beautiful, nostalgic, relaxing and filled with hope soundtracks. So beautiful..

The nether is a strange place. A hellish world, surrounded by lava and fire, populated by strange creatures, foreign and native. Ghastly cries echo through the cavelike terrain, and heavy breathing of the blazes can be heard ever so faintly within the walls of the fortress they protect. Tall ash-like skeletons, massive living cubes of magma, humanoid pig creatures, both living and dead, and the peaceful striders that roam the scorching lakes of the nether. This world is so strange, so alien in appearance. Once you first enter this world, you feel uneasy. Like every step you take could be another step closer to your doom. But, overtime, you come to appreciate this world. It’s beautiful scenery, it’s rich supply of resources, even the strange creatures that roam the wastes of this new world. This is what I imagine when I listen to this song. A true masterpiece, as expected from good old C418.

Whenever I hear this song, I think of the barren wastelands of the nether. I feel the emptiness and open caves of the hellish landscape. I feel the melancholy notes of the song, weave images of misty grey fields with nothing in sight. This song represents the nether, and it's message and feeling as a whole. Every aspect of it is here, the terror in the beginning, the serenity in the middle, and the calming ending. You can imagine yourself, experiences the nether throughout this song. Entering the nether, seeing all this red and lava, fear strikes your heart, as you wonder what awaits you in this hellscape. You then begin to see, the nether is more than a fear inducing deathtrap. It's a wasteland. A red fallout, creatures struggling to survive. A barren plane of nothing, but with a distinct calmness to it. As you leave the nether for the last time, you are calm, as you truly realize, the nether isn't a wasteland. It's not a deathtrap... *It's an experience.*

This piece always tears me up the most for some reason. It doesn't really hold much rememberance like Sweden or Calm yet it is the most powerful soundtrack the game has. It starts off very omnious as if you're into a dark, empty void but then it hits you with the familiar minecraft piano tunes echoing through this open endless space. It is almost like this song is flying through my mind taking me through all the great memories I had with this game I played when I was young. What memories you ask? The countless worlds I survived in back when I had no clue how the game worked. The countless towns me and my friends were building each time we were done after school. The countless building projects I never finished and those I did... man do I wish to see them again. The countless of minigames and adventure maps I beat. But ofcourse the countless of times I had to say goodbye to all of these worlds I spend so much time in. This song is like a box of sealed memories. Memories of a childhood I left behind in these distant yet far worlds. Though most of them are lost, deleted or forgotten, they will always be floating in my mind reminding me of the awesome childhood I had. It's a shame I might never experience something like this again but I am thankfull I did many years ago.

This is what makes the nether and the overworld so vastly different. the overworld is a blooming place with lots to explore and plants and life everywhere. and especially: you. The nether is like catacombs. Empty, full of crying souls (ghasts) that just wants to be left alone in their misery. And pigmen that have clearly been mutated by time itself and horrible beings of fire like the Blaze and magma-cube. It's scary but this music just reflects the scariness into something...chillingly beautiful to think about, it makes you happy to live in this overworld, where you have everything you need.
@arandomzoomer48374 жыл бұрын
Odd. It's like the new nether is a young world. At least relatively speaking. You still have ancient stuff, but it's definitely young compared to the overworld. It's hot, filled with volcanic activity and primordial life (basalt deltas and magma cubes). There are no diamonds, coal, or iron ore, as if they haven't had time to form yet, while iron hasn't managed to concentrate into veins of ore, while at the same time gold is more common, as if it hasn't yet been depleted.

This is one of, if not the most pure and eloquent song in the whole game. It starts eerie, but then it reaches the calm plateau that makes you feel like you are standing in front of a vast field of nothingness, one that brings peace and a sense of how small we truly are. I think of being in the Nether, walking around the netherrack shores and finding a spot with an endless ocean of lava, with no other structures to be seen, just the hot, dark, but zen red mist of the Nether. C418 is truly a genius of his craft, making us all feel emotions so powerful and broad to the point where naming them would restrict them.
