UPDATE An updated (paid) version of this series is available at www.c4d-fundamentals.com
In this basic Cinema4D tutorial we go from theory to practice and do some hands on modeling by using Polygon Modeling and Sub-Division Modeling techniques.
Step by step we will model a nut, since this object is simple enough for a start, but still has some interesting characteristics. Make sure to have the basic knowledge from episode 03 and 04 to follow along.
------ FEEDBACK ------
Did you like the tutorial and want more? I'll appreciate any feedback, critic, subscriptions or comments. If you even want to support me further you can donate a few bucks.

Watched your whole series and I think these are much clearer than other tutorials I've seen on the same subject. Your approach of identifying the tools and giving a simple illustration of how they work is a much better approach then I have seen from others. Id love to see to something on sculpturing or a show and tell on the proper approach to sculpturing. There are bunch of videos on building cars etc that don't make as much sense to me as what you have done here.

Sorry for deleting the comment. I had shortly realized after I made the comment that I did not select the bottom part of the tube to make the edges with the "edge cut" tool so my lines were converging on one point at the bottom. Everything is working out thus far. I only just saw the notification. Thank you for the speedy reply!

Do you habe access to the property? I wouldn't model it by hand in this case, I would try to use a photo scan / photogrammetry software. There are some smartphone apps out there, I did a tutorial on that, but I think the particular app went out of business. You can basically do it with a normal camera and some software though: Found this after a quick google search for example: www.agisoft.com/pdf/PS_1.1%20-Tutorial%20(IL)%20-%20Building.pdf Here is another one: www.capturingreality.com/architecture After you get the point / cloud data into cinema you can convert it into a mesh and if needed you can retopologize the mesh to a lower resolution manually by hand or by algorithms like quadmesher. Let me know if you need some more help. This is my tutorial on photogrammetry: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJXPc3iDatSpo9k

i don't know if you've solved it by now but you can go to filter and check n-gon lines. you see your edge-cut tool has enabled n-gon creation and you possibly don't have enable your c4d to show you these line cuts. Also, maybe you forgot to remove the inner surfaces of the hexagon, and most importantly you didn't optimize your geometry [ U~O ]. A last thing that could destroy your edge cut is to NOT have selected the proper edges before you go to edge-cut. I hope i helped :]

Hey bro. Appreciate the tutorials. Just a question, have some of the ways to accomplish tasks changed from this tutorial until now? To be specific at 9:20 you use optimise to join the polygon to the edges. When I pull the polygon from the edge it is already joined. Is this an update from Cinema? or am I going mad? Cheers

Great stuff! Xlnt presentation and detail. Small note tho - your finishing "threads" are not actually spiraling as real threads would... Instead, the result is a simple stack of concentric rings. Getting threads that spiral/"screw" would be a great finish, tho perhaps a tougher nut to crack. ;)
@JonBagge
@JonBagge 7 жыл бұрын
No actually this method does give a proper spiral thread. Try it yourself. I can't quite work out how it works either, but it works.
@victorb656
@victorb656 7 жыл бұрын
No, these are simply stacked rings of indentations...not a true thread (selection @ 31:47). Instead of separate rings articulating the threads, it should be one continuous spiral (i.e., if you stay on/follow it, you can begin at the top and end up at the bottom). Yes, from a distance or without scrutiny it certainly *appears* to be threads...but it's not.

at 10:20 I get confused, what shortcuts are you using when extruding the point of the tube to meet with the cylinder? When I select all the inner edges and then switch to the Move tool, nothing is changed, the arrow will move but no apparent object. thank you!
@kaylielynn2107

also when I try to lift the top of the tube at 9:36 it doesn't move either. The object seems to already be "optimized"?
