C5 has a lot of body lean in the turns but replace the front and rear sway bars with z06 bars greatly improves the body lean.

Two years ago, I purchased a 49k mile 2004 C5Z with light modifications (~+40 HP with full intake and exhaust) and I loved it-I found AutoCross & HPDE, and sold it for a stock 2002 C5Z with a staggering 256,600 miles on it ($12,500) and started AutoCross and HPDE with a simple brake fluid change (DOT 4 Prestone MAX) and Oil Catch Can-barely an ounce after 4x 20 minute track sessions at Brainerd International Raceway! I’ve put new brake rotors and “race” pads, Koni Yellow Shocks, and Falken Track tires on it and it’s even more fun to drive. I’ve driven the less powerful FRS (10 years newer) at autocross events and the change up was a blast, but no where near the fun of the C5Z. For the price I paid, I cannot think of a better AutoCross and HPDE car and it’s all upgrade so far, with only a steering column turnsignal/headlights switch that has failed.

All great points in your video! Someone mentioned gears and as you know, the trans gears are lower in the Z06, so with the extra hp and torque, that multiplies the acceleration. The C8 has excellent traction so the C5 would need a next step more power and good wheel spin control to beat it. 😊

My '99 FRC has an intake, exhaust, LT headers, cam, and a tune. It dyno'ed at 396 rwhp. Fairly spot on to your estimates.

With the C5 being double wishbone at all 4 corners, we can easily convert them to run coilovers at all corners so on track performance is very surprising. Adding a small wing spoiler (GStream) or a big Wing (Nine Lives Racing) can even give the C5 very insane drag benefits FOR THE TRACK. Changing the bushings to Delrin is also a very easy upgrade & changing the ball joints isn't hard either! Switching your engine mounts & trans (diff) mount to new fluid filled mounts will help a ton but the sway bar bushings to Poly will be a good upgrade too. With a simple Fliptie intake mod (zipties and scissors), Long tube headers, and a tune you can easily get a 02-04 Z06 to 370-390whp without drivability or reliability issues. Just get some heat socks for your spark plug wires. Where the LS wins is simplicity and durability.

Upgrading the rear gears to a 3.90 or 4.11, especially if it's an automatic transmission, is possibly the best bang for your buck. Great video. I have a 2001 Z06 with 803 WHP

We all talk about having a 50/50 weight distribution, but every time I get my C5 corner-balanced, the best I can get is around 67/33. It does not take away from its corner capabilities, but would love to know if anyone else has seen different results. On coilovers, by the way.

my 2016 focus ST curb weight: 3223, crank hp 580-600 (500whp set up currently on big fuel, big turbo, ethanol, 36psi, etc)... means my PWR = 0.180 to 0.186 That explains why my 60 and 70mph pulls (60 in 3rd, 70 in 4th) have bested new performance vehicles like the 458 italia (which is a very similar PWR, about 0.180), M5, M3 FBO, Coyote/SS/Hemi, LC500, X6 M Competition, etc.... I get A LOT of high powered cars (mostly bought not built ones) that were expensive..picking on me regularly. pretty much DAILY. Some punk in a red hatchback tuner car, thinks hes fast... There's so many C5 videos and most of you have no clue. I own a 50th anniversary Corvette which I purchased two years ago. At the time of purchase the gentlemen had told me it had a x pipe and exhaust Z06 sway bars. That it was tuned on Dyno as far as what was done he never stated anything more that. And I will say it smokes my 04. Z06. And a base model it leaves behind a instant 12 cars behind. I reinstalled the. Stock air box which seems to have no effect.. and from experience of. Owning it two years.There is not many cars on the street that will run beside this 03. I took off on a roll with a c8 being automatic I pulled away I never seen him but I knew he was close....

5:41 I’m sorry but that chart is flawed, it’s not taking into account drive train. If the Camaro or mustang are 10 speed autos the C5 ZO6 has absolutely no chance of winning regardless of power to weight. To add to that My 2015 manual mustang GT keeps door to door to with the grand sport C7 auto. I know this is just a comparison based off power to weight but at the same time drive train these days makes a huge difference because those ten speed autos are absolutely ridiculously fast.
@milehighmisfits9 күн бұрын
@@Itsjustgaming859 that’s a point that I made at the end of the video. There’s almost no way to accurately account for drive train unless you drive each one on the same track with the same driver. Obviously I don’t have the ability to test that so PWR is the next best thing
@milehighmisfits9 күн бұрын
@@Itsjustgaming859 also the chart is not “flawed”. The point of the chart was to relay PWR data and that’s exactly what it did lol
