Heavily inspired? They call Giana in the credits at around 18:40 , this must be a fan game, a pretty damn good one, but still it's an unofficial fan sequel. Apparently this guy also made "Mario Goes to Diamonds" which must be this game with Mario? Also, damn, this music IS awesome! :3

When you look at 18:08 where the level ends, it looks like Giana just commited suicide by drowning. Bad ending in disguise.
