Took me right back to all the wrist and finger pain of button smashing. The frantic twirling to cycle and the pain of miss timing everything. Thanks. It took me right back to my teens. Nostalgia, it's not what it used to be.

I remember my older brother had one of the track records nobody could beat. I miss the newness of gaming sometimes.
@theimortal19743 жыл бұрын
are you sure it was a legit record? because either on this version or the apple version if you do pole vault and do no power whatsoever the game for some reason still counts it as making it. that way you can make a world record that nobody can beat without cheating. i wondered if there was anything else like that on other events
@nuclearjong14 жыл бұрын
Thank you for doing these longplays. They are very fun to watch. Most of the games you do are so confusing to understand that I could never beat them. You are a unique and amazing game player!

"The original Summer Games was really popular, and the Epyx marketing department was keen for 'more of the same' with a sequel. As with all games at that time, we started with a brainstorm to choose the events. I got cycling and rowing, and I remember getting loads of grief about the way the wheels looked in the cycling event. The marketing guys kept saying to me, 'The wheels look way too pixellated; they don't look round - can you fix that?' I had the hardest time explaining to them why they were like that." -- Chuck Sommerville, designer and programmer [Summer Games 2 - C64]

In Summer Games 1, long ago I accidentally discovered that for the pole vault, with a low pole grip and the bar at the highest setting I could actually vault _under_ the bar and it counted as a successful vault!

I was thinking the same thing. I remember getting home in 8th grade and playing this all day long .

I used the PAL-version from Summer Games. Mostly the european version works a bit slower than the NTSC-version `cause the difference in the 50/60 Hz-norm.

Skeet shooting was easy. If you did it one time you could easily do it again.

Btw, some things might look easy for todays kids, but all of this had to be done with a joystick. That's was really challenging

26:05 a 10.0 for that jump? ;)
@tim_nj_devil176 Жыл бұрын
the game was weird like that. If you did a crazy joystick sequence, it gave you a higher score; similarly, in Winter Games, in the event "Hot Dog", you got a 10.0 if you did a crazy jump.

Very good. If both Summer Games 1 and 2 are together for NES and Sega Master System, that should have happened since 1985 or 1986 as common sense I thought long time ago.

Does anyone know what the highest height in pole vault that the game makers would allow to be cleared?. I've gotten over 5.90 but never over 6.0. By the way, I am asking without the cheat of going under the bar. Also, what's the furthest triple jump ever? I can do 17.55 in my sleep, but never 17.60

Graphics performance was way beyond the same class computers.
@theimortal19743 жыл бұрын
i remember playing this game. and either this version or the apple version there is a cheat in the pole vault. if you launch with no power at all the game will count it as a victory and easily get a super world record that anybody legit will never beat.

IIRC my mates and me had records around 17.85m (triple jump), 26.5s (rowing), 2.45m (high jump), 6.00m (pole vault), 101.76m (javelin) and 734.xx (diving) - we hated all the other disciplines. :) Most of those were the maximum technically possible. Skeet shooting was the one thing I could play blind.

I loved the "Games" series - but fencing was really annoying when you had 5 people around and everybody had to go against everybody else...
