Got a new Z06 last week. No details on the ZR1 and I got 18% off so the value is too good to pass on. It'll be the first production year of the ZR1 so that's another reason to wait until 2nd model year to work out the kinks and avoid the hype charge tacked on by dealers to be a day oner.

I've had two ZO6's, a 2002 (405HP) & a 2008' (505 HP) I had a bad accident w the 2008, and after one year, I finally talked my wife into a 2009 Z51, pretty basic one. Then, I had a cam, headers and a cool air package installed and it pulled 436 HP at the rear wheels, which is about 500+ at the flywheel. I really need to talk my wife into "just one more Corvette) honey!! I'm 62 years old, a former go kart and modified stock car driver from way back in the 70's. the next best thing to actually racing is to own this 2017 ZO6!!! I used to have a loaded Z06. Sold it and then a year later bought a 1LT grandsport with a 13k discount. I installed the stage 3 aero on it for about 1k. No complaints getting a car like this for 57k. I personally feel the grandsport is the vette to buy if you want a stingray but want the wider body and tires or want a z06 but don't care for the extra power.

I'm shopping Z06s right now. What was it about the Z06 that made you want to sell it? Was it not driveable for you or did you bite off more than your budget allowed, or high insurance?
@DigitalCarAddict7 жыл бұрын
makstone it was that I had a bunch of power at my disposal that I wasn't using. Quite frankly, the car had too much power in my opinion. I can floor the grand sport at 30mph and not have to worry about losing control. The z06 on the other hand you have to be very careful. That supercharger kicks in and it will spin the tires and lose control at low speed with all driver assists on. And if you think the grandsport might be slow.... it's not at all slow by any means for the street. Giving it half throttle I get up to 80mph on the normal street without hesitation because of how lightweight it is. It's plenty of power if you're just gonna use it on the street

It would be a track weapon until it starts to ver heat and pull timing, I know they "fixed" the over heating problems but unless you buy aftermarket parts to help it will still pull timing on track when it gets hot. Almost why the Grand Sport is better

Nice video. First off, I can’t believe that dealership just let you take off for a day in their Z06. Different world out here in California. I couldn’t even test drive my Stingray until the paperwork was all but done and my money was on the table. A few months back I nearly swapped my ‘16 Stingray for a new ‘17 Z06. I was close to signing but the dealer wouldn’t let me test drive until my deposit was down. I’m no kid! I’m in my 50s and have driven exotics all my life. The vette is a fairly rare bird in the SF Bay Area. Maybe that’s why they’re stingy with the test drives. On the track at the Corvette driving school, the Stingray actually had an advantage over the Z06 unless it was driven by an instructor or experienced racer. It was just too extreme. I came to believe that the Grand Sport is the sweet spot in the lineup. Now I’m at the point where I think I’ll just mod my Stingray. Enjoy your videos. Just the facts without the ego. I like that and rare on You Tube.

Nice detailed review bro. Thanks to your review and a few others, I was convinced to purchase a new 2019 Z06 1LZ black on black 8 spd auto with only 3 miles from show room floor for $81k, + a trade so $66k out the door. The power, acceleration and speed is this beast is absolutely unreal! Wasnt too keen on the C8 just yet so later for that. But the model Z06 is a track car straight out the gate and the exhuaust note under mild or hard acceleration is inoxicating for the driver and anyone else left your review mirror. Not a daily commuter for me but its still balls out fun. Will invest in a radar detector as well.

Hey buddy nice video. Just wanted to make a couple comments from an owners perspective on this car. I am sure you know that this vehicle has several driving mode options. The different modes will affect the ride and responsiveness. So just saying to try a few different modes and you may find the turning radius might improve. With regards to the width of the vehicle and driving in traffic. You get use to it quick. You seem to be a natural driver so I am sure, like other good drivers, you get acclimated quick and it's not an issue. You will be threading the needle sooner than you think. Another thing I will comment on that is a bit of a challenge is how low it sits. I have to constantly be on the look out pulling in any business or cross intersections so the front doesn't scrape. Other than that it's my dream vehicle. I have a 2017 z06 convertible A8 Long Beach Red

I actually owned a 2017 Camaro ZL1 with the 10 speed auto and I have a 2018 Carbon 65 Edition Z06 with the Z07 package. I really liked the ZL1 a lot. It is extremely fast and handles very well for such a heavy car. I was also very impressed with the build quality and technology in it. The only downsides for me was the weight, seating position, and the fact that it does not really look that much different than a normal Camaro. If you want a car that has back seats usable by kids and sort of blends in with other cars but is also very fast and drives great then the ZL1 is a great choice. Just keep in mind that only car guys will know what it is and everyone else will think it is just another Camaro.
@guiltyofawesome7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply! I know what you mean about the Camaro's looks. I thought that the 1LE package on the 2018s might differentiate it enough to have it look really unique. It is true though that you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a camaro, but that is what you get when you have a starting price point under 30k.
@CarsCostsandTechnology7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Andrew! I actually did a full review of a 2018 Camaro ZL1 (non 1LE) here on the channel. Check that video out if you have a chance. I really enjoyed that car! Another great video. Loved the intro music and the overall quality of your vid. Definitely do more on the ZO6. I do have a question. On the topic of insurance you mention "Policy Coverage" and "Vehicle Coverage." Are you referring to Liability coverage and Physical Damage coverage? If you are fortunate enough to do another video on this specific ZO6, would you show the window sticker and go through everything that's listed on same? Lastly, while driving it, did you get a chance to "play" with the rev matching feature? Lastly, congrats on the 5,2k subscribers.
@CarsCostsandTechnology7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Peter! This was the "secret" manual Corvette that I mentioned to you a little while back on another video. I had a great time reviewing it. So the policy coverage is referring to my selections for liability and uninsured motorists coverage. The vehicle portion of the coverage is for comprehensive and collision. My insurance just groups them together into one total quote, but still provides an itemized breakdown. Hope that helps. I did use rev matching. It's a little strange at first, but once you figure it out it makes you feel like a pro every shift!
@petercarey68837 жыл бұрын
The "secret" was worth the wait. Just staying with this particular ZO6 for a little longer, I know the 3LZ is the top interior option and this one has the ZO7 option, would you tell us what other options are available that this car did NOT have? I did notice that it did not have the racing seats, I was just wondering what else might be available for anyone to literally "max it out." FWIW, cudos to your dealership for letting you take this car out and putting miles on it. Even though it's now "technically" a year old, still a gutsy move on their part for a $100k Vette. Which does beg the question, did they make you sign an agreement that you will be held responsible for any and all damage that may occur? Until later, Save the Wave.
@CarsCostsandTechnology7 жыл бұрын
+Peter Carey This Z06 is definitely pretty decked out. It didn't have the competition seats, 8 speed auto, visible carbon fiber effects, and a few other small items (premium colors, stripes, colored stitching, etc.) that could've pushed it to the absolute highest price possible, but there's not much missing from this car that impacts actual performance. I have a great relationship with this dealership (even prior to reviewing their vehicles). I treat any vehicles that I review with the utmost respect. My number 1 priority is that the vehicle is in pristine condition for the buyer. Especially if it ends up being one of my viewers!

+PMELED FOREVER If you want the additional power definitely go with the 1LZ Z06 👍 If 460 HP is enough for you and you want some extra creature comforts and technology go with the Grand Sport 2LT.

The overlays on the PDR is pretty cool but other than that the image and sound quality is pretty terrible as compared to some dashcams.

Fully loaded z07 or fully loaded z07 grand sport.. Every carbon fiber piece u can get.. Suede interior.. $110k or $98k both have more power than you'll ever need. Between this or a Porsche 718 gts... Screw the zr1... The current fully loaded z06 is stunning, I won't be waiting even the few month because I'd rather save my money and get a fully loaded z07 than a base zr1 Edit: my father has a 2016 stingray fully loaded and it's beautiful, and I'll be leasing not buying most likely

it's so cool when KZbin doesn't give you a notification of uploads
@CarsCostsandTechnology7 жыл бұрын
+kevin tate Something weird happened with this video. Normally my new videos will show up in multiple different ways, but when I went back in to KZbin to make sure that this uploaded properly I had to go to my uploads and find it in the list. I don't think that all of my subscribers even know that this was uploaded unfortunately. Maybe I'm being censored lol.

@cgoins19936 жыл бұрын
studio7 eh, it's close between this, the 718 GTS, Evora 400, Aston Martin DBS, and the F-type R. I have no problem giving it to the Z06/7 though

Cody Goins 718 Gts I’m sorry but no it’s just a boxster / the evora looks like a toy / the dbs is stunning but a GT not a sports car and the f-type r I agree is beautiful but the z06 in my opinion is more beautiful

What about the overheatting issues ?? Have they beeen solved ??
@carguy4life2197 жыл бұрын
Yes for the manual transmission and kind of for the auto. Starting in the 2017 model year the overheating problem was fixed 100% for the Z06 with the manual transmission. The automatic was "mostly" fixed but GM recommends purchasing the manual transmission if the car is intended to get heavy track use as the auto transmission can still overheat in certain situations but it is still much improved over the 2015-2016 models. GM said they are putting a kit together that can be retrofitted on 2015-2016 models.

@dontjh84487 жыл бұрын
seth meyers they won't deprecate as fast as the C4 that's for sure, but give it 10 years and it'll be around 40-ish thousand

I bought my 1998 Vette back in 2011 for only $18,000. Granted it was 13 yrs old & had almost a 100,000 miles on it but it was in pretty good shape otherwise. Still looks almost brand new too. I did have to replace several parts on it over the yrs though which cost a few thousand. But I find it kinda funny that many ppl just assume that if you drive a Vette you must be rich. Nothing could be further from the truth though cuz i'm not even close to being rich. You just gotta be patient & buy a good used one.

Love it! Would u get a manual or automatic?
@CarsCostsandTechnology7 жыл бұрын
+Sean Kennedy Thanks man! It depends on what my plans were with it. If it was going to be a second vehicle just for weekends I would go with the manual. If it was going to be my primary vehicle for daily driving (like my Stingray) I would go with the automatic.
@seankennedy39567 жыл бұрын
Oh boy....was definitely thinking automatic, but this corvette is going to be a weekend only "gotta get out of the house" car!

Great video as always. I didn't realize you were in the Upstate. I've taken my GM products to Bradshaw of Greer for service for years. I've got a 2014 Stingray Z51 3LT. Are you a member of either of the two local Vette clubs, and if so, do you recommend them? Keep up the good work. Glad I subscribed.
@CarsCostsandTechnology7 жыл бұрын
That's awesome man! They're a great dealership. I haven't joined any clubs yet. I looked into joining one, but there was a drastic age gap between myself and the current members. Not that it really makes a difference, but it made me decide to hold off for a little while. Thanks for watching!
