I did this to my C5 coupe and it made a world of difference. Nice job!!! I wouldn’t have the stones to do it to a new C8 however. LOL!!! 🤣

When it switches to V4, the sneeze sound you hear is the mechanism that locks the intake and exhaust valves. I have no AFM valves, and the sneeze sound remains. Some people's AFM valves are squeaky too but that can be remedied at the valves. Glad to hear this worked for the sewing machine sound! I'll be doing this mod for sure.
@JoesGarage-c8corvette Жыл бұрын
It’s funny I never heard it in my HTC until I installed cold air intake and ported manifold. Now I hear it all the time at low speeds and low stereo volume. I was told it is called the sewing machine behind you, but totally normal. I’m not sure I wanna lose the exhaust sound, but otherwise seems like a great project.

I will be doing this mode. I switched to long tube headers and the heat shield kinda helped to block the ticking sound. Now that ticking is louder and is going to drive me crazy. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for sharing this process! You refer to a ticking sound, which I start hearing that noise today on the C8. Have you made any research on it? Normal stuff? I found a few different opinions even from people taking the cars for warranty - lifter, fuel injection, manifold leaking.

How many square feet did you use of Kilmat? One box size has 2 mil -36 square feet and the other is 1.5 mil-50 square feet. Will 36 be enough? Did you have extra when you were done? The foam is only 16 square feet per package. Will i need two of these as well? Thanks for the video!

Thanks for covering this. I gave it a shot and go figure - even though I watched your whole video, I not only cut my finger like you did, I goofed and ripped out the speaker wires in the same way. Did you ever fix the speaker? If so, how bad was it? If not, did you buy another online somewhere?

Man I wish I knew this was coming! I’d love to have you test the Bose system speakers to find out what their impedance is! I’d love to be able to replace some of them for better sound, especially the 4” door speakers with a good co-ax to get a tweeter in there! Would love to know if the Bose speakers are 4 ohm, 2 ohm, or something odd! Maybe a suggestion for an upcoming video…

@lukewalker1051 Жыл бұрын
Everybody should do this. A good job for little Johnny or the neighbor boy next door when he isn't cutting the grass. Note, this should be done within one month of purchase or insanity could ensue, ticking like Chinese water torture. Ticking as a DI feature and not a bug is because the new C8 is really da bomb. True bomb? The new Eray. Don't park it in the garage. P.S. more bomb stuff and unacceptable NVH? AFM. Turning 4 cylinders off, radically reduces engine life. Gotta love Chevy Engineering and their planned obsolescence.
@BillPhillips4 Жыл бұрын
Good video! In my C8, the overwhelming noise source is road noise from the front tires. Its so loud, I don't turn on the stereo a highway speed because I can't really hear it. Likewise, I don't hear the direct injection ticking over the road noise. My C8 is a 2023 Stingray with 3LT interior and is a non-Z51. The car has the tires that came from the factory.
@VetOnVettes Жыл бұрын
This would probably help your situation for sure. I didn't go too crazy in the foot wells, but that would mitigate a lot of road noise. All doing the inside of the wheels well liners.
@timothyroe5020 Жыл бұрын
Can you not get the Range device for the C8 like they have for the C7 to make it stop going into V4 mode? I got it for my C7 and I didn't really notice a huge difference in gas mileage. Still getting 25+ on road trips. For a V8 that's pretty good. But, if you own a Corvette is gas mileage really a big concern?
@_Car_Ideas Жыл бұрын
I have a HTC and I’ve added sound deadening mat in the doors (it makes your speakers sound significantly louder and better), but I’ve also considered doing this as well just to reduce road noise. Does it also reduce the amount that you hear the exhaust? My fear of doing this is making my exhaust sound quieter from inside the cabin.
@murfenator82 Жыл бұрын
i was gonna ask if you could disable the valves, sounds like that would be the plan. Good to hear it turned out being worth it, and it wouldn't be a proper job if you didn't draw blood!
@musicman786269 ай бұрын
Is it also worth it to Killmat the Doors? I'm interested in lowering the road noise. at 80mph, the tire noise is crazy in my C8 Conv.
@TireSmokin16 ай бұрын
If you change the tires from Run Flat tires to standard tires most of the road noise goes away. Ride quality improves too.

Pushrods don’t tick…on LS motors, especially C5 LS1’s, it’s the injectors.

Added weight from sound deadening = lower performance. Come on man, you should be used to this as a C5Z owner with sound deadening removed from the factory to save weight!

Probably 8lbs added. I will shed 40lbs doing the exhaust. 🤷🏼♂️

Own a C8 Z06, the engine is unbelievable compared to my 2020 C8 Z51. The ticking is awful in my Z06 in tour mode I still can hear it in sport mode. It drives me crazy. This winter will be doing the same, maybe not as much around the roof line. The GT3 doesn’t have the same issue.
@VetOnVettes4 ай бұрын
Yeah, I feel the ticking is very polarizing. People either hear it, or they don't. It drove me up the wall to the point I considered trading it in. The kilmat mitigated probably 90% of it. I drove a Z06 awhile back and like you said in tour mode it was obnoxious. This is not a terrible job, but it's well worth it. I feel GM should have added more insulation from the factory.
@frankanthony44694 ай бұрын
I just did the rear trunk with same material you used. It was 95 degrees out but said WTH, anyway my conclusion the trunk is definitely cooler now. Also on the Z06 they did a reverse mega phone on the exhaust to push more sound towards the driver. The rear trunk panel is now all covered and my wife and I feel the sound has changed. More testing needed. But anyway it makes me wonder if this large piece helps create some reverberations since the exhaust sits under it.
