My C96 fires and extracts the rounds but the bolt is always locked open failing to chamber the next round which forces me to push the bolt forward myself. Do I have a weak spring or something?

@@deswanao Took my C96 apart and it turned out that the firing pin was snapped in half. The recoil spring was also old, worn out, and bent. I simply installed a brand new firing pin and both a brand new firing pin spring and recoil spring from Wolff Springs and now my C96 fires flawlessly.

Great video! I have been troubleshooting my own Mauser and went through all the steps and your function test.. looks like going through the steps in your videos I have a slightly soft trigger (probably due to the trigger seer, something I suspected but good to know) and I have the ejector that sits too far forward so my feeding clips wont fit unless the bolt is pulled back. Good to know the alternate feeding method because of that... Keep up the good videos and looking forward to all the insight your experience can offer!

Thank you for this video. I was having the issue where the bolt and extractor extending forward enough that I could not insert the stripper clips. I was concerned that something was out of spec but now I know that is common and my fix, which was to pull bolt back a little more, insert stripper clip and then release bolt to put pressure on back of the clip, thus freeing the pressure on the follower, is the correct method.

My Red 9 can only fire one or two rounds before the bolt catches on the hammer. Any advice?

My gun was working perfectly, I went to load it for the first time to make sure everything was alright. It was so loaded fine and so I took the magzine out and unloaded it. Afterwards my bolt wouldn't lock back. I don't know if my spring isn't strong enough or what

Thanks for the vid. Do you know where I can get my hands on a reloading table ? Somebody at the gun club here has an old c96 from the 30s but the only availlable factory ammo that we can buy is too strong.

Hi Eugene, I have a problem with one of my C96s. The bolt is impossible to rack back to chamber the 1st round unless the muzzle is pressed against something hard and the upper receiver is then pushed back by 1/4 of an inch. I have tried swap bolt springs and nothing seems to work ? Could you let me know how I can remedy the problem? Many thanks.

I have exactly the same problem with my shnellfeurer model 712 , a few months back I could crack it easily , of course with some force , but now because of my age [74years] I can't pull it without unlocking it against a hard surface .

What can you do about failure to extract? My extractor is NOT tight in the bolt. It can move slightly vertically as well as for to aft. This is the condition it was in as received from the gunsmith after “restoration”. Can this be adjusted or does it have to be replaced? How is “adjustment” accomplished?

In the extreme cases of ware on the bolt, it can be welded and machined, but an easier approach, is to customize the extractor to fit better on the rails. Send the gun over we will correct .it

I have a wobbly extractor but the gun extracts just fine. The biggest issue with it is that the hammer gets caught on the bolt sometimes.

A small steel collar around the firing pin placed behind the firing pin spring but before (in front of) the bolt stop will prevent the bolt going too far back. I have fixed two with that problem that way.

@@kenibnanak5554 I made one a year ago but it only caused worse issues. what did fix it foe my gun was grinding the wear away on the hammer. Carefully rewelding it back up and then polishing it

When I pull the slide back it to confirm it is empty, mine stays open. I have to put a round in it (even an expended round) then carefully activate the slide so it does not come all the way back. Then it will close up.

That is not a malfunction. The bolt is supposed to lock back on an empty magazine's follower. As he says for these tests the magazine (and follower) are removed.

Mine has the exact opposite problem. It was working fine until I went to load it. After all the rounds were out it wouldn't lock back
