I’ve really enjoyed learning about CA glue from your videos, and I finally got a set of Starbond thin, medium, and thick glues with a pump sprayer of activator. Already loving it for lots of things!

Hi Colin! Just a quick tip on your golden flashlight. I've left several of these face-down on a flat surface and forgot to turn them off. A few days later, no battery life. My solution to this was taking a thread file and notching out the body just shy of scratching the lens. Now, when I lay the flashlight face-down on the table, I can see a little light peeping through those notches! Its a real battery saver! Nice clamp job on that chair and I LOVED the ca/yellow glue tip! If your ears were ringing yesterday that was me. I was at Walmart and stumbled upon their brand Hyper Tough 13 ft tie-down lashing straps, 2 in the pack for $5. I could actually picture you talking about the dollar store hold-down bands while I was pulling these off the shelf. Decades ago I bought Pony brand ratcheting band clamps which have served me well and lasted forever. They're probably 40 years old and they still work! These don't ratchet but you can never have enough clamps! Best Wishes! Take Care, Tom K.

As a first step, few drops of vinegar will dissolve the white battery residue in the flashlight.

You are right! a great substitute for clamping while you wait for white glue to dry. I clamp customer work using this , and then I don't have to drive back just to retrieve clamps. it pays for itself that way.

My SECRET TIP for CA Glue! (KEEPS THE TIP CLEAN) Open when ready to use but before tipping bottle to apply Squeeze a bit of air out! hold that pressure squeeze to keep the air out as you tip the bottle to apply, apply the CA then release the squeeze - This Give more vacuum to clear the tip before replacing the cap making the tip stay clean so much easier and yes always store in fridge.

I have used it to glue the skid pads on the bottom of our kitchen chairs. The peal and stick pads fall off within a day but if you clean off the supplied glue and hit it with some gel and accelerator I've had them stick for more than a year.

If you have an eraser meant for removing ink they are than a pencil eraser and do a great job at cleaning up electrical contacts. Nice glue tricks. Especially the regular glue and using the CA glue in combination as a hold fast.

Why did you bother with the wood glue at all in the last example? Does it have significantly different properties (like shear strength) than CA glue that make it worthwhile? Or does it just "clean up better" when dealing with squeezeout? Thx.

While I've never had the need to store CA glues for long periods, acetone would be my first choice. It's great for fiberglass/epoxy tool cleaning, and It works just as well on those tiny pipettes that Starbond includes in their glues. I just squeeze a few drops in and blow into the large end like it's a trumpet. And before anyone asks, no, this is not gonna hurt you. Bananas contain acetone.

Great advice on CA glue. I use it all the time as I am a pen turner. I learned a couple of things today. Thanks. I do have a question on how do you make sure your large square is really square. Thanks
@markrowland5393
@markrowland5393 5 жыл бұрын
Use your square to make a line then flip your square over and if the edge of the square lines up with the line you made, the square is accurate.

I know it was a CA demo, but a tip on the chair back repair, or really any tenon on a chair, is to use wood glue, and build up any gap in the joint with wood shavings from a plane. Scrape off all the old glue from the tenon and out of the mortise, sand both surfaces smooth, then glue shavings around the tenon, 'clamping' them with blue painter's tape for at least 2 hours. Build up the tenon so that it's too large to fit in the mortise, sand it down for a precise fit, then glue and clamp. As we all know, wood glue can make as tight a bond as the wood grain, so building up the tenon with wood shavings from a plane adds wood to the part that is as sturdy as the tenon itself. A hardwood is best for the source of the shavings, as soft wood shavings might have some 'give'. As long as the moisture is out of the glue before final sanding and reassembly (minimum 2 hrs, preferably overnight), the repaired joint should remain strong and stable for the life of the chair.

Does ca glue not go brittle after time? I think the activator is water with alcohol (IPA Alcohol or similar), becourse super glue is activated by the air moisture.
@XJWill1
@XJWill1 5 жыл бұрын
Regular CA glue creates a hard and brittle bond. If you want a tougher, more durable bond then you need "rubber toughened" CA glue.
