Why are people even disliking a video of a GP9 cabride. What's not to love?

All I can say is ....... LOVE THAT SOUND!!!!! Could listen to it all day. Pity no-one in Australia will give you a cab ride due to Occupational Health rules......... i.e yes..... we can't do it the foreman's watching. Great video.

I worked with GP7/9s while employed on the Chessie(C&O).These was great engines to work with and one would be hard press not to find a C&O engineer that didn't like their GP7/9s. As one old line engineer told me these geeps are like the old G9s(a C&O 2-8-0 class)..A work horse.

Some of my best memories are of cab rides in an old 1956 GP9 on a shortline, love the old control stand and the "road foremans watching"

GP9 sound amazing in Run 4-8. I volunteer at a museum that operates one for excursion trains, but the speed limit on the track is only 10 MPH, so we rarely rev it higher than run 3. It's cool to see one of them pulling at full power.

the compressor on the GP 9 had a unique sound remember it from when i was a kid in the 70's

Interesting that you say that, because it used the standard compressor on all other EMD road switchers of the time, the Gardner-Denver model WBO. Maybe its the roots blowers you're thinking of?

I used to have quite a few -9 parts. I don't have much left. There were about 3,470 built and quite a few have been taken out of service. A lot of stuff I had were doors, engine parts, cab parts, hoses, etc. These are cool. I like them better than the -7 s. I at one point almost ended up with a short block assembly too.

When i first hired out on the CNW back in '93,i saw those ancient GP7's and thought..WTF. Those things were POS. When i was there,EVERYBODY hated those things. But now that they are all but scrapped,i wish i could ride on one again. Nice vid.

Thanks for the great comment. The sound of the loco sounds great in the video, but I wish you could have heard it as I did! As you know, the video was shot in 1994. I would never be able to ride a locomotive without permission today.

@@bemseer I know he went to Bensonville occasionally and he went to the Quad Cities at times. He mostly switched in the Savanna yards but did make some longer runs. I remember when he took me on the last steam engine in the yards. He also ran a pusher engine. His father worked for the Burlington Route. Small world. Where do you live? I wish I was back in Savanna, I am in Tacoma, Washington now.
