We went from Preston to Edinburgh on one of these, presumably this is the same route we took as I remember it passing through Lancaster and so on. Was dark so didn't see much til we entered Scotland.

Fascinating to see Lancashire from the drivers perspective. Any chance of Lancaster to Carlisle, Glasgow, Crewe.

That's brilliant.

If only I had a camera back in the 1959s when I lived in Lancaster and did this run quite often.............Mike now retired in Wales

Stupid how the towns north of Preston don't have stations especially galgate. So you have to drive a polluting car to the nearest station, probably less faff just to drive a car instead of using a train and then they wonder why so many people in the UK drive cars.

@@MS46532 BR actually invented tilting, but later sold it to Italy, typical!

This line is very generous with its footbridges...

Over the years the railway has been lucky to get funding to close what had been several footpath level crossings! Some had been there for ages but needed rebuilding for electrification in early 1970s.

Love this video thank you I am amazed at how the overhead power lines stay stable.they look very fragile.

Stronger than they look! Maintained properly and they stay up.

It would be really neat to have a speedo reading superimposed, say at bottom right?

I know this is probably a silly question, but, who controls which way th etrain gos at these junctions? Are the points pre set by the signalmen who know which train is coming along next?

Yes that’s it. From a Signalbox at Preston.

always surprises me that this is our fastest uk train and if the TGV or similar were running alongside, it would overtake it by around 60mph.
@cannedham86305 жыл бұрын
There is the Eurostar on high speed one, we do have faster trains.. but I get where you're coming from as it's a shame the country that invented rail travel is lagging in high speed rail.
@violinstar59485 жыл бұрын
it’s precisely because we invented it we have a Victorian rail network
@cannedham86305 жыл бұрын
Matt, I understand that but surely we should've been pioneering modernising our railways years ago, we have got the technology and resources to do so, just the only thing that goes against us is we are densely populated, high speed one is a good example of what can be achieved, so why are we making excuses?

@@cannedham8630 money! Have you not seen the spiralling cost of the HS2 line were trying to build?
@cannedham86305 жыл бұрын
@@amandanectar yes I have and I agree with you to an extent on the cost of hs2 compared to how other countries in Europe have built their high speed rail. But the main inter city lines are rammed up to capacity, the motorways are rammed, plus it's an environmental benefit, rather than people using their cars and jumping onto internal flights which also use our rammed airports! It ticks alot of boxes so don't know why people are against it!? It'll make the money back. As long it's affordable to the masses in which transport should be.
