Yep, I was in radio school at Fort Dix...the following week I was at the matinee of Die Walkure with Nilsson, Crespin, Vickers, Adam and Veasey - von Karajan...I was in uniform standing in a long line tyring to get a ticket at the last minute (lots of luck, I thought) and a kind gentleman gave me a ticket

This is beautifully sung. However, IMHO the timbre is a little too strong and robust for Liu. I think I would have chosen a more delicate, lyrical voice like Beverly Sills, Anna Moffo, Helen Donath or Lucia Popp to serve as a foil for Birgit Nilsson.

Perdón! Pero no tiene Vd ni idea acerca del papel de Liu! Puede no gustarle Caballé y está en todo su derecho, pero excepto Anna Moffo el resto de las sopranos que nombra no pueden cantar ese Rol ni con micrófono

You're on to something, her voice is very unclassifiable. In any case, it seems Nilsson herself liked her loads. They did it in Buenos Aires as well.

I prefer the weight of Caballe and Scotto's voice. Moffo had a nice juicy round sound as well and sang Liu beautifully. Not sure I would want to hear Sills, Donath or Popp as Liu. In more recent times, Hei Kyung Hong was glorious.
