Now that I am 60, I can appreciate the lyrics. Back in 1972, I was 8 years old. I enjoy each day of my life! I get out and mingle with my neighbors, church family, work family, and my blood family. My life is happy!

Liza was great in this but one segment definitely cemented her Oscar win: when she talks/Sings about Elsie and through her tears says "life is a cabaret old chum" you see her fear about what is eventually going to happen to Germany but get through it in the cabaret

What I love about this song is that because the place is a cabaret you'd think that the song is an invitation for men, but when she says "put down the knitting, the broom and the book" is clear that the song is encouraging women to take a break from the toil and trouble in their lives and have some fun, and possibly have some independence.

Do you think only women read books or hold a broom?. Read the history of Europe at that time. True women at that time were going through a cultural.revolution, wearing pants and smoking cigarettes. Nazi Germany tried to reverse all this free expression.

One of the biggest criticisms of the film is that Liza as Sally is too good to be as described by Isherwood as a second-rate singer at a third-rate club. We place a bit of polish on Liza that sometimes strips her of her ability to understand her assignment. As Sally, I think she's fine (brilliant, even) because she doesn't put too much polish on her performance here - she's breathless occasionally, she lingers too long on notes at points, she may not be able to sing off-key as some do in the revivals, but she works in some human elements to the role that remind us that she is not out of her element at the Kit Kat Club.

@ she comes off as an exceptional talent that’s yearning to be discovered… not sure where you get you’re analysis from? They obviously made a conscious effort to showcase her immense vocal talents! No one can watch that movie and not consider Sally a star In The making.
