What a great video! Two cameras, speed and heading display, fun hearing the play by play narrative. You guys ROCK!

It's so much watching you goes blow past the other boats!!! It's like they are standing still!!!

Yes! Except for that light blue stiletto in the distance. We battled with them for the lead, and eventually finished close second on water -- we might still win on corrected time. The conditions were perfect for both boats. But when it's light, on the N150we battle to keep up with the Hobie 20s which are light air machines.

Downwind sheet the mainsheet in tight, keeps the bows out the water! Upwind pull some diamond tension on and trapeze low :)
@MartinHoffFoilingSailboats3 жыл бұрын
Hey Ben that's great input thank you. How/why does the mainsheet help lift bows - is there a theory for that? You think we should have run with more diamond tension? I agree I need to grow up and trapeze lower...

@@MartinHoffFoilingSailboatsthe mainsheet help lift bow because you redirect the power of the sail more to the side of the boat and not the front, you may have a little loss of speed but in the long term it's quicker because your speed is more constant. hope you understood! have a nice day!

Hey Martin, going too much high mode on the upwind, that was because the wind was too strong? Going abit lower/faster will boost your vmg quite alot. Really nice video. How much wind during that rain squall?
@MartinHoffFoilingSailboats3 жыл бұрын
We haven't found a low mode they pays off in vmg yet. There's a low foiling mode but it's worse vmg - still works if you over stand the mark or the wind shifts or you have a tactical reason to run to the other side. So, tell me more about this low-better-vmg mode :) maybe we haven't done the right thing yet

@@MartinHoffFoilingSailboats hey ! Yes I don't mean foiling , that will very hardly be good vmg, i mean going at about 9-10 knots non foiling , just a little bit more open then that Mode you are going .
@pedromarcos14723 жыл бұрын
You need to get the speed first to build apparent wind , and then close the angle and keep it at about 9-10 knots, it should be a more open angle then the one you are doing but not much

What did you have the fouls set at on the long downwind run? And when it's knarly like that upwind I drop the traveler for the main down and sheet in tight!
@MartinHoffFoilingSailboats3 жыл бұрын
Foils in 3 initially, then i removed some, added some by feel. Probably took it down to 2 and then back to 2.5 . Overall we don't think we had it quite right. If I could do it again, i would have more halyard tension, which lightens the load on the spi sheets and allows me to walk the boat better. And then with the increased swell keep foil rake relatively high(2.5/-3) but walk the boat a lot more. Might need to grab the spi sheet from between the two windward blocks to avoid conflict with the stays.

I'll post a more detailed discussion in sailing anarchy.
