So my idea for keeping your tent roof from collapsing is to use a picnic table that has a hole in the center with an adjustable pole that would attach to the center point of the tent ceiling. Try it. I believe you will like it.

You should have shown the awning. Also to make it easier to get the tent back into the bag, purchase about four 2” wide Velcro strips so u can tightly bundle the tent. Makes it easier to get the tent into the bag.

It is a awesome tent! We have one and love it! I have seen people use a center pole that is similar to those olds tent poles that can adjust in height. Have not needed to worry about that high of wind yet but may look into getting something for that! Great video!

Watch for winds over 20mph, becomes a huge kite! Speaking from experience. Overall a great tent, that we use with out tear drop camper.
@LivinMNOutdoors
@LivinMNOutdoors Жыл бұрын
I have never had that issue. Typically when it gets real windy like that, one or two sides will pop in. Thus taking it's "kite" like ability away. But, I could see how it could become a kite if the sides didn't pop in. Overall this is one of the best purchases I've made. If this one ever breaks, I will definitely buy another.

If I was looking for something to prop up the ceiling I would get one of those spring loaded shower curtain rods and then a length of PVC pipe to where you would have a two piece pole. I would check to see if the shower curtain rod would fit in an 1.5 inch PVC pipe. Measure the distance you need and cut the PVC pipe a foot or two longer than you need so the shower curtain rod would fit down inside the pipe a foot or two. I would drill a hole through the PVC pipe a foot or two from the end and then get a bolt long enough to go all the way through the pipe. That way when you put the two pieces together you will have the length pole you need and you can adjust the length of the shower curtain rod by screwing the two pieces of the shower to either lengthen or shorten the pole to fine tune the length. A little spring tension that the shower curtain rod provides should help hold it in place. The length of the pole will depend on if you will have a picnic table in the tent or if the pole will go all the way to the ground.

I also recommend the Cabela's version that they list at $450. Yes, you can get the Clam brand for $300-ish but the zipper side panels makes the Cabela's version superior and much faster to put the panels down when an unexpected rain storm rolls through. My issue is it is long when packed up. If you have a truck, mini van, etc. it's OK but not easy to lug in a Camry with tent, stoves, food, backpacks, sleeping bags, etc..

Sounds good to me. My husband bought me a canopy last year but I can't put it up or take it down by myself and we get lots of summer storms and unfortunately I could never get it down fast enough alone that some parts broke (he fixed em) but one thing the canopy doesn't have is mosquito net and so I enjoyed shade with all the flies last summer lol. I think this would work well to put up and take down by myself if the random summer thunderstorm blows through

You never mentioned "wind" in your 1st comment. Knowing that there was heavy wind & rain coming, you probably should've taken the tent down. Or at the very least, been prepared to babysit the tent. These tents are not storm shelters. They are to provide shade, bug protection & keep you dry during manageable weather.

DO NOT BUY !! If a thunderstorm goes through you will wind up with a very expensive swimming pool . We purchased the Cabbelas Quick Set from Bass Pro ...basically a deluxe Clam version and deeply regret it . The roof is unsupported and will fill with water and fall to the ground . Anything you may have stored in it will be covered or destroyed . For your hard earned dollars buy the Eureka Northern Breeze. Yes it is harder to Set up ( takes 2 to do ) but it can withstand heavy weather .

I have the cabela and love it. Yes, l agree with the problem but it can be mitigated. Obviously your tent collapsed due to wind and then it was a fish bowl that filled with water. Probably at night when you were sleeping in another tent. When leaving the tent, say at night, you always must have all side panels staked out and a center pole supporting the top ceiling hub. This prevents any tent collapse. Side note……I have been in the tent twice during heavy winds, ceiling came down and the hub hit me in the head. I think the hub should be designed so it locks in the up position and then a release has to be depressed to take it down. Meanwhile, I use a pole always overnight and if it gets windy.
