Thanks for the detailed information on both the setup and specifications. I just bought the Alaknak 12x12 and find it very useful to know the apportioning of the weight for stakes, poles and fabric, and the setup procedure & approximate setup time. That was a good point about making an attachment to limit air wafting in through the screen above the door.

I bought this tent a year ago! I still haven’t used it but we will this summer. I wanted to watch your video for an idea how to put this together

I watched and enjoyed all your videos! I have the same tent and stove and am planning a week long adventure or two - so I found yours very fun and valuable, thank you! And congratulations on your deer.

Awesome thank you! I'm happy your enjoyed them. Lots more fun ideas to come! That's awesome you have the same set up, how much have you been able to use it? Any good suggestions while using that combo? And thanks for the congrats! It sure was hard work, really rewarding that's for sure. Would love to take that set up on an off grid fishing trip soon too!

@@mansplaining511 I’ve spent probably 30 nights in the tent, only one of them with the wood stove in the backyard. I was not satisfied with the length of burn, which is typical of all small wood stoves. When I take it cold weather hunting, I’ll either make a 30 gallon barrel stove so it will burn much longer or else go all out and get the pellet burner attachment for 9-10 hour burns. Of course, I’m not carting these items in like you did. How many times per night did you feed the stove, or did you just sleep through and stoke it in the morning?
@mansplaining5114 жыл бұрын
That's about the same amount of time I have in mine too, so we're still figuring things out lol. I agree 100% not super satisfied with burn length but you're absolutely right that's typical. I usually have to feed it twice a night, but eventually just ended up sleeping through the night (because of the super warm sleeping bag) and stoking it in the morning to take the chill off while getting ready. I have put a lot of thought into using a larger woodstove and using it "truck camping" not trekking it in for miles. Would work a lot better for sure. Maybe a fishing trip next time with a larger wood stove and some sort of power equipment for processing wood. That's the real pain, hand sawing all the wood!

@@mansplaining511 I understand getting a real warm sleeping bag and just sleeping through the night and using the stove to warm up, dry off and cook. You want “all-out?” For a fall fishing trip, I prebuilt a 12x12 plywood floor and set up the Alaknak with electric radiator heat, electrical lights, carpet and XL cots. Then, I fashioned poles and tarps into a separate enclosed kitchen that also had lights and propane heat. I could have fished and lived there for months. It was great.

Wow! Heck yea that's the truck camping palace! That's one of the things I love about this tent, with a bit of work you can take it anywhere and rough it, or make it a palace for as long as you want and be really comfortable. Great thinking!

The vent in the front door is not a dealbreaker but they should be able to cover that up, love the video keep up the good work be safe.
@mansplaining5113 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I’m sure they don’t provide a cover option “for safety” because there’s many people who don’t understand that air flow is important. But I did make a cover in another video which is adjustable.

What about the wood stove? Where does it go?
@bravejango123 жыл бұрын
I know its been a year but to save yourself the hassle of un-tangling the ropes wrap them around a paper towel tube or toilet paper tubes. Doesn't add much weight but saves you time in the field setting it up.

Can a person stay warm in 20 weather or colder
@mansplaining5114 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! But it also requires a good sleeping bag/pad and a wood stove.

My husband and I have a wood stove. This winter we were up in the mountains and we didn't need coats inside. We do have the vestibule for added space which also cuts back on the winds and cold entering when you open the door. I have CRPS and must stay warm. I could never camp until we got this!
@mansplaining5113 жыл бұрын
@@sharibell5675 I’ve thought a lot about getting the vestibule. I’m so happy to hear you overcoming obstacles and continuing to enjoy the outdoors!

WOW WOW WOW They don't even have the Big Horn III on their site. According to Customer Service "they've been pulled for QC issues" so hopefully they'll be back. I've really been thinking about testing out the BH3 next so hopefully their Guide Series returns!
