The mud flap should fold inward (to the inside) prior to staking, so if you put a thick floor tarp down, it will sit on top of the mud flap, creating a quasi seal, preventing water from being able to run into your tent. Instead, it will run underneath the mud flap and your floor tarp. Cheers mate! 👍🏼
@cherylkitchen Жыл бұрын
If you aren't using a floor tarp having the flap go outward sheds water away. You can cover the flap with soil or sand on the outside and the weight makes a great seal. This is southern/hot climate usage I've experienced, not cold climate usage.

It's called a sod flap. Traditionally you flap it out and bury it in dirt or snow to seal the bottom of the tent. In this case, they provided stakes instead. 😉

Possibly add a weatherization spray to the outside? The area I am thinking of gets minimal snow or rain with mild winters and hot summers (high desert type area).

@gardnerellis29572 жыл бұрын
It's a giant tent alright.....a "white elephant" for any serious camper. Too expensive, too big, too heavy, the frame is massive to try to transport. There is no floor, so it's susceptible to marauding rodents and since the sod cloth/mud flap can't be tucked inside...there is no way to have a sealed floor by adding a ground cloth. The tent is too high, when cold weather hits, most of the heat from a wood stove will rise and radiant through the ceiling. It would take an enormous amount of wood to heat; if two stoves are needed as mentioned...forget it. If a group is that large, then much more practical to have two smaller wall tents with two smaller stoves. Then one has the choice of just using one tent, if a smaller group dictates. I've used a 10'x12' floored wall tent with an attached 10'x10' cook "shack" for twenty years. I'd take my tent system over this any day. Happy camping!
@WhiteDuckOutdoors Жыл бұрын

@@AngelPerez-jm3yg 400.00 sounds like the Ozark Trail from Wal Mart. 5 out of 5 positive reviews that I've seen. It's made of rip stop nylon, like a G.I. poncho. What you get for 2000.00 is durability over the long haul. Canvas, unlike nylon, is more U.V. resistant and better for a long term set up. Also more resistant to tearing and creasing. Better for moving a lot. LOL, one gets what one is willing or able to pay for. The cheaper tent would best be augmented by an overtarp, or 2 for U.V. protection if you want to set up for more than 3 days. Have a Goodn.

Nothing special about that tent and there are much better. FYI, the entrance is certainly not the best since you need to push aside the flaps. good tents have a better entrance allowing you to get inside easily and it makes a huge difference when you need to bring gear inside. Also, the windows... triangular?? That's obviously to save money. Same thing with the very cheap screen. Good tents will use a no-see-hum mesh. So please, stop saying "they spare no expense" because there's nothing so special with that "mess tent". In fact, it lacks many features the others have. Like side pockets, etc... The only cool thing about that tent is the foot of the lower tubes and that's it.
