When Spencer stopped talking because the baby smiled at him, it melted my heart. So much love in your family. I am so envious of the life your kids are living. I can see you all 20 or 30 years from now sitting around the table at Christmas and reminiscing about the time spent in the camper while you built the cabin. Such wonderful memories being made. You are right Kens, you need to film it so you can look back and remember. Best wishes from North Carolina.

Oh my, you are the type of people we need more of on this planet. When you were building your first container home and you came across the snakes, people were telling you to kill them. No you moved them on knowing they had just as much right to exist as you do. Now you’re living with deer and bears and you enjoy the experience and show us them being able to live alongside you in nature. It’s always great to be reminded we live alongside the magnificence of this planet and don’t rule over it. We only kill when absolutely necessary which does happen occasionally. May we all appreciate our planet more. Thanks for sharing the beauty of your mountain get away potential home.

You must live in an urban area or don't have kids. Once a venomous snake enters a safety zone (frequent human traffic or place where kids play) it's bound to return if relocated. I'm retired from a large agency that managed land for recreation. If a rattlesnake came into a heavy recreational use area like a developed recreation site I killed it with a shovel. Same thing in a housing area, like ranger station housing compounds. Rattlesnakes can be left alone along backcountry trails and camp sites. They can be moved because the risk to humans is low in those areas. If moved from a heavily used area they can come back and possibly build a den and the risk keeps getting worse. A snake in areas away from concentrated human traffic usually gets out of the way as they can sense ground vibration from large animals and humans. When they enter a concentrated area they have lost their natural fear, a dangerous situation. I've been to this type of rodeo dozens of times.

@wannabetowasabe actually I live on 10 acres in the Australian bush alongside the 2nd most deadly snake in the world. Eastern brown snake (Pseudonaja textilis), dangerously venomous. 2nd only to the inland taipan. Another Australian snake. Snakes are a protected species in Australia except in extreme circumstances. I also live with kangaroos who can drown you in a dam if the are badly threatened. The males front claws can rip your stomach open. But they are beautiful and brilliant mothers. Not everything dangerous has to be eliminated. If that was the case man would be the 1st to go.

@wannabetowasabe I agree & disagree with you. (I'm curious now.) Do you kill them around your property now? At their home, they have copperhead snakes & and pond. They always watch out for them because of their children. That's part of the country/mountain life living in the USA.. ✌️💜 🇺🇸

The children have many advantages they cannot fully know. This is their life. Not every child gets to have both parents home, live on a sizable piece of property away from town and experience daily living quite the way they do. I am so happy for them.

I wish I had mentioned this earlier, might’ve made this project a bit easier. I would have recommended checking out the steel helical pier foundation that the University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio designed and used on the house they built on campus for the solar decathlon. They were installed using a bobcat with an auger attachment and drilled in 10 ft lengths until a specified torque was reached meaning it had hit stable bedrock. They can later be easily backed out to remove and restore the land to its original state if you ever relocate the structure. I love the design.

We have a nice size chest type refrigerator which cost less than 100 best I remember but we can run it three days off a 600 watt power station, or a week off a deep cycle battery. We mostly keep milk and all the other drinks in it and keep the camper fridge for food. We eat a lot of Dinty Moore beef stew, canned chili, canned meats and veggies etc. so we can go two weeks or more without shopping.

Hey Spencer, there is a better way to handle dry bags of concrete. Get a saw, cut it in the middle and about half way down. Then lift it up at the cut line giving you two half bags. Then slide the saw in between the halves, teeth up and separate the two halves. Half a bag is much easier to handle than a whole one. If there is a table that this bag cutting can be done on, so much the better, as lang as it is stable. Hope the rest of the concrete work goes well.
