Cable Locating | Dry soil = can't locate. Yep, the science is actually true

I know the science.
I understand the theory.
But, if I hadn't seen it with my own eye and experienced it first-hand myself, I would not have believed it.
First time in 20 years of locating that I have actually been able to come across this happening in the field, not just in a textbook.

Hi Ben, great to see this effect on a known location. It's weird to see zero and not just a weak signal. do you think moving the rf coupler over the wire would improve the situation - the return path would still be bad, but at least you are closer to the wire? clipping onto the wire (since you have access) will give you results, right? i will add "Australia dry" to the list of possible soil conditions. 😆

Hi Dietmar, yeah spot on, despite it being dry, when I cliped onto the trace wire I was then able to locate it. Unfortunately we don't always have the ability to do that, hence why I like showing how you would locate it if you couldn't hook onto it. Well, at least I try and show, this is the first time that I have come across this situation where it normally could be located but now it can't.
