Cabover Peterbilt Needs Repairs

After limping my 1984 Peterbilt 362 "Orwell" through the snow with low fuel pressure, I have the Boss Shop in New Stanton PA replace the fuel filters.

Glad to see it was only filters. Couldn't help but notice that shop had such a friendly crew once you paid the bill. Until then I thought they were going to shoot you for bothering them with your fuel problem. Guess you have to add that cab lift hydraulic system to your "fix-it" list when the weather warms up. I remember having to rebuild the pump on an old F model Mack I had in the snow in Chicago because the seals decided to go on holiday in the worst weather possible. Ah, the good 'ole days...

My problem wasn't as bad as yours, but I once had the turbo die on me on my 1975 Brockway Coe with a Cat engine one very cold winter night in 1978 around midnight on a mountaintop of a desolate stretch of old NYS route 17 in upstate eastern Ny. No pay phone for miles. Thankfully a state Trooper stopped to check on me. He contacted his dispatch via radio, who made a call to my brother who lived 3 hours away. And my brother went to the shop and got a new turbo, then drove out to meet me. By the time he got there I was half froze to death. In the cold wind we jacked up the cab and switched out the turbos and headed straight to the first diner we could find for a cup of coffee. The good ole' days. But you know what? I'd do it all over again if I had the chance

That thang about the wrecker is in your head hero. When you drive a truck 36 years old, you get that way. I know because my old Pete was a 1995 and I drove it up till almost 2016. A lot can wear out in 25 years and unless your doing a "Twin Stick Garage" restoration on a truck when you buy it, there's a lot of nuts and bolts that can work loose or break. You know Cats make fuel pressure from the return instead of thru the intake like most. If you haven't had that regulator off the engine lately it could be one problem. It's easily checked by plugging an external gauge on one of those ports in the fuel line and running the engine. I hope the fuel filter fixed it. My curiosity is going to drive me crazy till you post another video. Damn you Feszchak, I guess I just go watch FSC reruns. I hope you didn't have to be out a lot of money but I watched all the ads all the way thru to help out with boob toob revenue. Hope you made it home ok.

It was all business till the end . The job was done . Im sure they have their reasons . The important thing is they got you back on the road which is exactly what you paid for. Looks like pretty good service to me just without the conversation. Sometimes we are all like that and we all have our reasons . Be safe out there driver and keep the rubber side down .

Glad you got the filters changed sounds like when you got fuel in Indiana it might had water in or some bad fuel I would say a lot of drivers who got fuel there probably had the same problem, by looking at the door from inside it looked like that you could have got the whole truck and trailer in the shop stay safe out there

When I worked on cab overs, I learned to never ever trust the cab cylinders to stop the cab when going over center. I always used a safety chain. Glad I did cause one time I had one run away from me. Boss Shop AKA a Class 8 Jiffy lube joint.

Boy I Remember rolling my freight shaker condo c.o.e. over they always had to put in oil in the cab jack,then the fun move all my crap so it didn't go thur the window. But she got into ever tight spot no problem..great old slow truck,11.1 Detroit motor no jake brake.

You tilting that cab brought back some memories of my dads 1968 cab over peterbilt. I remember that one of the shifters was the jack handle for tilting the cab. When you got done tilting the cab on his truck you had to have that shifter back in the cab or you would not move the truck! Good design, never lost the jack handle!

I ran my own truck for the last few years, 1988 379 with a b model cat. More than once I had fuel filters go bad seeming early than they shouldve. Somes times bad fuel but sometimes the filters do collapse inside and cause that exact problem. I cut them open before and found that. Even had it happen on a new western star with the cartridge style filters as well. Glad it was a cheap fix man

I'm not a trucker, nor do I know anything about truck engines, but, I would have thought that if it WAS the fuel filters 'clogging' up, it would have been more subtle. 2012 ISX here. Had the same issue a few weeks ago. Had black slimy stuff in the water separator filter. Only got 2k miles out of 2 sets of filters. Truck would idle fine till you pulled with it. Run through the Chicagoland area twice a day. Changed where stopped for fuel and its much better. Another guy running with me had the same issue too

i broke down in a international transtar cabover in 1982 in nebraska fuel pump went out no cell phones i had cab jacked up on gravel road and a bunch of coyotes started circling me in field.so i slept in cab lifted till daylight and flagged down a farmer.after that i got the 80 362 pete cabover i remember it was gold brown with 3 stripes and brown interior with air ride 13 speed.cummins 400.The transtar was a 400 cummins to but a 10 speed.neet to see a cat in yours!

Glad filters did the trick , look out for cat high efficent filters they plug real easy & can drop hp. Down the road look out for your suction line with the fuel heater in it the insulation comes loose & bunches un in the line & creates a restriction at high hp & goes away at idle.

The primer pump will give you that problem too if it blows out. Replaced 2 on my b model and one on my e model. Finally got a blocker plate from cat. More fuel pressure than it ever had

My cabover had fuel filter problem all the time. I use Liquid Muscle warmer weather or Hot shots- which is a lot better for cold weather will not freeze like 911, Howies, etc.
