Those objects are at 1:51:41, in the area of the connection with the Betuweroute. I have no actual clue, but I can make guesses. The whole line between the Lek river (Culemborg) and the Maas river ('s Hertogenbosch) appears to suffer from bad track conditions. This may be some monitoring equipment to make sure the track is good here. Or it is more directly related to the freight connection, but axle counters and axle temperature sensors are lower down, at axle height.

In my town we had a similar device, looks like a speedmeter for roadtraffic. It turn out that it checked for worn out phantographs of passing trains. It was mounted on a bridge.

Just before those chimneys start there are what appear to be 'mobile' camera pods with the diagonal solar panels. Those chimneys are open and look to be recently placed, as well as they have some 'temporary' fencing. At first I thought they might be train detection for rail workers as it also appears the track has been worked on recently but there's no obvious sensor there. There's also 2 on the right and 1 on the left. Maybe they put foil under the track in the track bed and the chimneys are to vent gasses out from underneath ? Or it's not actually a chimney and it's some sort of ground water level measuring.

When I was riding my bike near the HSL in Rodenrijs they had automated total stations making measurements to various reflectors, and they had weather proof housings kind of like these, but these look empty.

I've been watching your videos and find them very pleasant 😌. I'm from the U.S. state of New Jersey. I live about 25 miles (40 kilometers) northwest of New York City/Manhattan. I have two observations: - You have a beautiful rail system, but I can't help mentioning all the awful graffiti on buildings, columns, walls, fences that line the landscape. ☹️ Can the authorities do anything about it? 🤷♂️ - I noticed your country uses the Highway Gothic font from the United States Department of Transportation on its highways, roads, and I see it at train stations along the routes. 😃👍
@CabviewHolland2 ай бұрын
Same font? Now that you mention :-) The graffiti 'artists' are too quick to catch most of the time. But dumb enough to always use their tag or whatever they call it, so when they do get caught, it is easy to track all their offences and get fined for those too.

The objects trackside in the preview look possibly like laser emitting deviation sensors, used to pick up either ground movement or anomalous movements in passing trains. There would be two of them to create a 3d computerised output of the data, such that a visual analysis can be performed. Such devices have been used as temporary mobile units in geological surveys, they do not wear the same levels of protection against the elements, static devices outside need greater protection hence their chimney-like appearance. I would see them as being pollution sensors, there would be no logical benefit of putting two that close together unless they were measuring two types of pollution that cannot be monitored within the same enclosure due to negative interaction between sensors. From a distance, as seen, a rake of ICM rijtuig 'top-n-tailed' by a couple of in livery Traxx is very impressive!

04:35 reconstruction of the Vorburg stop was to bring it up from ground level (at the right) to eliminate crossings and a bridge (at the 06:16 spot) that needed to be open for boats. The tram tracks are not in use anymore... Utrecht Lunetten (1:13:08): The former stop (around 1:12:40) was a strange one: it could only be used by travellers to transfer between trains of different companies. It had NO streetconnection! Why they are now stop so far away from the tunnel (see the man at 1:14:00 run), I still don't know... These things are weather stations. They monitor the level of moisture evaporation, humidity and pressure, as well as the degree of glaciation in winter. The strange thing is that there are few of them in a country like the Netherlands. By the way, if they had been installed on the HSL about 10 years ago, and the repair indicators had been taken on time, your rails would not have fallen apart
@michaeljohndennis22315 ай бұрын
These Dutch railways are so much better than here in the U.K. - I just wish that our railways were of this high standard, yet we have very poor standard rail infrastructure, constant industrial action, our trains don’t run on time and train fares are so expensive - then we had the failure of HS2
