some of the viewers have pointed out the description that llama 3.1 was giving for the tweaks section in cachy os hello was wrong, sorry for using llama, guess it isnt very accurate with its findings lol ANANICY CPP, what does that do? ananicy-cpp - daemon that automatically adjusts the nice levels of processes. ananicy-cpp-rules - list of rules used to assign specific nice values to specific processes. PROFILE-SYNC-DAEMON, what does that do? profile-sync-daemon (psd) is a tiny pseudo-daemon designed to manage browser profile(s) in tmpfs and to periodically sync back to the physical disc (HDD/SSD). This is accomplished by an innovative use of rsync to maintain synchronization between a tmpfs copy and media-bound backup of the browser profile(s). Additionally, psd features several crash recovery features. The design goals and benefits of psd are: Transparent user experience Reduced wear to physical drives Speed BPFTUNE, what does that do? bpftune aims to provide lightweight, always-on auto-tuning of system behaviour. The key benefit it provides are by using BPF observability features, we can continuously monitor and adjust system behaviour because we can observe system behaviour at a fine grain (rather than using coarse system-wide stats), we can tune at a finer grain too (individual socket policies, individual device policies etc) Also the default kernel is using the bore scheduler, which also means the performance is quite amazing :)

After a couple of months, CachyOS has become my favorite Arch-based distro. I particularly appreciate the work they're doing to optimize Linux for performance, which is above and beyond what other distros attempt. And it's a good, friendly community (which most communities are, despite the reputations out there regarding Linux communities). I friggin' LOVE CachyOS!

Solus is the only other distro I can think that do such a thing as they use a lot of tweaks from Clear Linux to make the distro really performant & sometime in the near future they will rebase to SerpentOS & get their tweaks from that as well

@09:58 the default kernel also uses the BORE scheduler, it's stated in their Wiki: "The default kernel is our main recommendation in terms of scheduler choice and configuration. Currently, our default kernel is using the BORE/EEVDF scheduler as the default option, along with our base patchset. However, we also include the sched-ext framework, which enables switching to different schedulers at runtime."

I installed CachyOS on a 10 year old HP notebook (with Hyprland 0.42). Amazing performance so far. Fedora 40 (with Hyprland 0.39) is on my other PCs and is quite stable. However, if Cachy OS continues to impress...who knows? This is a worthwhile distro. Congrats to the developers.

Seems to me that CachyOS is to Arch what TuxedoOS is to Ubuntu. Very nice! I'm still running Tumbleweed on the HP 8200 Elite SFF so I don't think I'd get the optimization benefits of CachyOS on that old machine but I might put CachyOS on my future AMD 7000 series build.

I've never heard of Tuxedo being used on anything other than Tuxedo Computers, so that doesn't sound right. Even Pop! OS has a wider user base, but was still made with the line of System76 computers in mind, with Nvidia GPUs in mind. Almost like Apple's OSes. Cachy is built around the kernel with BORE scheduler, so it's built around a kernel feature instead of a set of hardware.

@@sebastiangonzales46 systemd is new still under development and fast while grub is old with more functionality than systemd but slightly slower. But difference is minimal. However in my case in garuda kde distro grub is helping me restoring previous snapshot after i do something wierd causing my os to fail to boot and letting me add couple of extra words in kernel parameter which then boot into terminal(tty) instead of gui. Systemd bootloader can also do some of these things but grub is better.

After having briefly switched from Windows 11 to Linux Mint on my two-year-old Beelink SER4 4800U Edition Mini PC, it has succumbed to internal hardware failure and died a few months ago. I’m thinking about installing CachyOS on my next Mini PC, which will be the Beelink EQR6 7735HS Edition. I’ve heard so many good things about CachyOS, and I’ve been wanting to give that particular Linux distro a go ever since. Also, I’ve recently heard about how very buggy Windows 11 24H2 was for many users, and the bugs probably won’t be fixed until the end of the year, and I’ve decided that Windows might not be for me anymore. Besides, I don’t use a lot of modern programs that strictly require Windows, anyway.

All these distros coming out with custom kernels claiming to be optimized for this or that are starting to sound like those scam programs that claim to boost gaming performance or lower your latency and boost your internet speed. It all seems like wasted development time of trying to reinvent the wheel when instead this effort should be used to build up the main distro it's built upon. The Linux world needs less fragmentation and more consolidation of effort and progress.

@@linuxnext CachyOS is the smoothest Linux experience I've had tbh, it does a lot of tweaks by default and it does them right. It's not like it's automagically going to make your PC 200% faster but for a Linux distribution it does make things easier and smoother. Also, CachyOS had sched_ext support for a while now, scx_rusty and scx_lavd does amazing things.

CachyOS has been what I've been running for a month now. I absolutely love it and I love base Arch. But with CachyOS, I don't have to worry about a lot of the initial setup I have to do with base Arch (which I love). With CachyOS, it helps automate a lot of the "manual" stuff you have to do with base Arch, but still gives you the flexibility of what Arch is all about. I haven't seen any major improvements from base Arch, but what I was looking for was more of the guided installer (even though I consider myself a power user of Linux since I've been using it since the 1990s) and not having to do a lot of the initial setup manually and get the OS up and running quickly. CachyOS provides the best of base Arch but with a faster, automated install process that works.

I'm running cachy os and Ubuntu 24.04 on 2 separate nvme with i7-14700k and 7800xt and after testing I think cachy os is all hype because it's the new shiny distro. After testing in the games I play on cachy with stock kernel and bore kernel I get very good performance, but it's almost identical to Ubuntu 24.04 with stock kernel actually I get a bit better performance on Ubuntu, but if I install liquorix kernel and mesa kisak ppa Ubuntu blows cachy OS out of the water in the games I play I don't know what liquorix did to there kernel, but damn, it works. And before somebody says yeah but the 1% low yeah I tested that to and Ubuntu wins on my hardware the only thing cachy os wins at it's newest version of packages. On nvidia I tested on another system Cachy os beats Ubuntu but on amd gpu no

There is probably more fun with Zen 4 and Zen 5 on CachyOS thanks to better scheduling (or less scheduling problems) and the Zen-4-binaries they ship that use AVX-512 and other modern instructions. I have a 14700KF myself, but found CachyOS to be 10-15 % slower than Windows 11 in the games I used as benchmark (Total War: Troy and CP 2077). CachyOS was faster usually with my older Haswell-EP system than Windows. So I think this might be that Linux in general is not that well optimized for newer Intel desktop chips with P/E-cores.

Why does torrent/dc client make my laptop run slower? It depends on certain factors, such as the capabilities of your CPU. Preferably, your CPU should support AVX2 as one plus of CachyOS are the x86-64-v3 repos. If you have an even older CPU, it wouldn't matter much which Arch-derivative you use as they all would use the standard repos without any newer architecture-specific optimizations anyway. I've also reported a bug when using Haswell-Xeons as these really need the CPU performance governor which is no longer the default for a couple of months. The default behavior now optimizes for powersaving which means huge performance regressions due to inverse turbo behavior. This change didn't affect modern AMD CPUs that much, but older Intel CPUs might suffer. I can't tell if your CPU is affected though, but this can be solved via a custom Kernel or through other less invasive means.

Yeah i guess llama is sometimes out of date or doesn't understand what im asking it for edit: is this correct? ANANICY CPP ananicy-cpp - daemon that automatically adjusts the nice levels of processes. ananicy-cpp-rules - list of rules used to assign specific nice values to specific processes. PROFILE-SYNC-DAEMON profile-sync-daemon (psd) is a tiny pseudo-daemon designed to manage browser profile(s) in tmpfs and to periodically sync back to the physical disc (HDD/SSD). This is accomplished by an innovative use of rsync to maintain synchronization between a tmpfs copy and media-bound backup of the browser profile(s). Additionally, psd features several crash recovery features. The design goals and benefits of psd are: Transparent user experience Reduced wear to physical drives Speed BPFTUNE bpftune aims to provide lightweight, always-on auto-tuning of system behaviour. The key benefit it provides are by using BPF observability features, we can continuously monitor and adjust system behaviour because we can observe system behaviour at a fine grain (rather than using coarse system-wide stats), we can tune at a finer grain too (individual socket policies, individual device policies etc)

Ah c'mon. Arch IS easy now that there's an installer. KDE Plasma with Wayland or X11 on Arch is all you need. I dunno if this is a hot take, but there are too many distros already, especially Arch based distros. Everybody that's working on these Arch-based distros would better spend their time working on Arch and optimizing it instead of piggy backing on it to make their own thing that they'll eventually stop updating because people are using Endeavour or Garuda or any number of these things. There are too many to choose from and if you're really interested in Linux(especially Arch), you're interested in customization, so every distro that a seasoned Linux user uses, inevitably becomes indistinguishable from any other distro. Make it make sense.

Of course, i have installed and used vanilla arch with its archinstall cli, works great, but if you want new users to get into linux you cant shove a cli in there face at first, these distros get these new users their foot in the door so they can learn the basics of linux then install vanilla arch with that installer like i did this video shows how good this distro is and it has become already popular in the linux distro space with many people expressing their experience with this distro so i needed to try it, iv used garuda and endeavour aswell, they are all great distros to get into linux. if arch had a gui for installing vanilla arch then this would solve having to suggest these arch based distros for new users before they get comfortable with everything so they can go the archinstall route And yes these developers should be contributing to arch instead of maintaining their own distro but maybe they dont want to, thats their decision

In order for people to learn how to ride a motorcycle, they must replace all the motorcycle controls like handlebars, twist throttle, and foot shifter with car ones they're already familiar with like a steering wheel, gas and break pedals, and an automatic transmission. And maybe add another rear wheel so they don't have to worry about balance. This modified motorcycle is an excellent way for people to get into motorcycles. After a year of driving this modified motorcycle, they will be able to jump on any motorcycle without these modifications and ride off.

Artix is justified, as it makes installing/using other init systems easier and has a bunch of options and script integrations for supported packages to be ported over. Other than that, virtually every Arch distro feels like a waste of time trying to capitalise off making arch "easier to use", which in my opinion, defeats the purpose of the bleeding edge "experimental" nature of arch. This "Cachy os" especially confuses me, claiming optimisations when there's already a dozen optimized kernels like liquorix already floating around Arch and the AUR. Truly, if its not something which needs some advanced ecosystem of integrations within its own distribution/installation, why not just shove it in the AUR or a pacman repo and call it a day?
