Their installer would also ask if you want to use grub or systemd-boot but since you're in a legacy VM it didn't =( I think it would be smart to start reviewing these distros while having VM in UEFI mode as that's the newest standard and default these days

@marioschroers7318
@marioschroers7318 Жыл бұрын
For systemd-based distributions, systemdboot is actually an excellent choice. I had set up Arch Linux with systemdboot on my PC and laptop. It's a bit easier to configure than GRUB (given you read from the wiki). Then last year, there was an update on Arch which would cause GRUB to break for most people. It was nice to see my machines were not affected by this, as I was using systemdboot.

CachyOS is by far the best gaming Linux by default which I tested so far. They really do an amazing job to integrate newer Kernel patches that aren't upstream yet but are known to be beneficial for performance or stability. And having x86-64-v3 and v4 repos can extract more performance of your CPU. It is really a shame that more established distros with more ressources do not offer that by default nowadays.

Unfortunately as with many Linux Distros authors of the theme do not understand how human perception works. Icons should never ever be unified colorwise. (monochromatic or same in colorset) If you do not want to create something that both of our brain hemispheres can easily, instinctively distinguish, you may just as well use text. That's probably the reason why they made the main dolphin screen icons so ridiculously big. Yeah, one color looks nice. This is why beginner moviemakers make black and white movies. Because you have to have a skill to use color in a movie and not f&^% things up. Monochromatic is easier to manage to not distract the viewer. A professional UI designer has to know how to manage colors and implement them properly. Blender in version 2.8 made the same mistake, made tab icons monochromatic. Everybody was looking "hours" for the proper icon to tap, fortunately, they corrected their mistake :)

After trying it out in a VM on my Fedora machine, I installed Cachy on an extra computer. It is incredibly quick and "snappy". I too love their choice of included apps. Gentoo does the same thing, they play Big Brother and try to give a crap about the length and strength of your password, pretending to care... 🤣😂🤣 In a CLI install, you can tinker with some settings, and have any password accepted. At least Fedora and a few others let's you click OK twice, or something. And eventually they let any password slide through the cracks, so to speak.
