Have you tried using translucent Alumilite with your stabilized rotten wood? With the opaque Alumilite, you only see the wood where it meets the surface of the blank. With translucent, you'd be able to see more of the pieces of wood.

+David Walser: David, Have used translucent with light color and it works well Have made a couple of pens with rotten wood and clear was not really impressed you have to paint the tube or the brass and glue will show through duck call or tops you would have same problem. A bowl would be cool. I try to use a color to accent the wood especially if you have holes or voids in the wood.

the pattern on anything that involves sweet gumballs will create a bicycle-spoke pattern in a way you cut it and that's an infoulable law in woodworking

Nice work! Question: How did you finish the combination of wood and resin? Thanks. JimE

+Jim E, Jim, I use boiled linseed oil and a slow set ca glue from chefwarekits. www.chefwarekits.com/?tracking=carl

+dc9apu Thanks. My reason for asking was, I made some blanks with resin and unstabilized wood and had to put a CA finish on the whole thing to get a shine. i thought maybe the stabilized wood would just polish up like the Alumilite without any CA on it. JimE
