Hi Roos, love your channel. I’m a bit surprised to see you repotting cacti as we’re going into their rest period and it’s time to be letting them dry out. Obviously it’s personal choice and it’s not a criticism, I kept cacti for more than 20 years and always did my repotting as they were beginning to wake up in the spring

Yes that's the best time, this was filmed a month ago when it was still semi warm, plus i didn't think some would survive in that sense soil all winter in our almost freezing greenhouse. But I'm still new, following tips from friends and seeing how it will go 😅 this may have been a bad decision but ah well, it's done now!

@@plantwithroos I would let them dry out completely and monitor them especially that 3 headed gymnocalycium as it’s unlikely to grow new roots over the winter period if you continue to water that one you’ll probably lose it to rot.

Cacti roots often look dead and when I find one that does, I stick just the tip of the roots in water and it’ll usually perk back up. Plus, then you can tell if any are dead and need to be cut.❤ And I find it’s easy to fill the pot first and make a hole for the mushroom shaped ones!

Just a quick tip. When extending a moss pole with a plastic backing, push the new insert INSIDE the old moss pole so water stays inside the pole rather than outside when watering. 🙂

That's a cool idea but it often doesn't work, it doesn't fit if you don't have to cut it open like I did here.. I'll try again tho! In this case it was a bigger size I put on a smaller size so it wouldn't have fit inside ever - but that was my mistake 🤭

Yes, only for the cacti. There's some plants that I'll water less if they go into dormancy like Alocasia and I'll take caladium corms out of the soil for winter

There are many but I don't use them at I use good bugs and it would kill them too 🙏🏻
