A hike having these statistics requires mental toughness and discipline, especially when done solo without a partner to encourage you on. Great job MoonJuice!

Great achievement! You will never forget this hike. It's good that you have an idea what your limit is and that you can go over your limit if you have to. You earned your cold Moonjuice after that hike.

You got that right! That was just about as close to the limit as I care to go. One and done.

Dude! There was a slender guy in a blue jacket in front of me in the video who was actually planning to go down. C2C2C! You’ve got to be in some kind of shape to do 40 miles like that.

Supreme suffer-fest😅 You are truly a connoisseur of type two fun. Those stats are absolutely mind boggling. My feet hurt just thinking about it😂 I’m deeply impressed you made it out to Octoberfest at all. If I was you I might have stayed home to recover. A tip of the hat to you my good man. Truly EPIC🔥

LOL! Thanks Troy. After seeing your MotherLode videos, I have a feeling you could knock this out and still be able to get on stage and play a gig or two.

Any advice on preparation? Im unfortunately stuck in the flat lands with really nothing comparable to use as a training hike. The most rugged around here are things like the Mantario Trail, Hunt Lake, and Bald Hill via Reeves Ravine. Ill be in Palm Springs at the end of October and I'd love to train for this.
@MoonJuiceHikes8 күн бұрын
Hey Brian, you can definitely get ready without having an actual 10,000’ mountain to climb. All you really need is elevation gain. Stairs will work too, if you can’t get to a hill. I train on a short 1.5 mi trail, with only about 800’ of AEG. The key is to load up a backpack with about 40lbs (or as much as you can comfortably carry) and march up and down that 800’ hill until my legs are on fire. I do this 5 times a week to keep my legs ready to go. When you can do something like an 800’ hill 10x’s in a row, you’ll be ready for CTC. Good luck, it’s an awesome challenge!
@briantownsend94148 күн бұрын
@MoonJuiceHikes thanks for that. I load up any hike I do with the maximum weight my backpacks are rated for - mostly with water bottles so that if I over-do it, I can dump some water without worry. The biggest hill within 100 miles is a whopping 60ft tall with 22 degrees incline, so I guess I'll keep doing that one until I can do it 200x in a day. Going up and down over and over can't be the same as a steady up!

Great video. Thanks! How long did it take to get to the top. I saw your initial departure was 2:15am but what time did you arrive at the summit?
@MoonJuiceHikes Жыл бұрын
Ohhh, good question. I’m not sure what time I made it to the top, but by the time I made it down to the tram, it was 2:30 pm. I was hustling tbh.
@WolfPackM98c Жыл бұрын
That’s insane. I’ve been working up to a R2R hike. Couldn’t imagine doing twice the elevation gain in a single day
@MoonJuiceHikes Жыл бұрын
Yeah, R2R is a good goal. CTC is unnecessary pain. Better to just take the tram up, its still a 12 mile round trip to the top and back. Thats plenty!
@WolfPackM98c Жыл бұрын
@@MoonJuiceHikes As much as I love a good challenge, that's probably what I would do 😅 I took the tram when I did the Teton Crest Trail. It was already a hell of a first day hiking through the park to camp outside the boundaries since we didn't have permits. This video reminded me of an idea I had of hiking from the desert floor up to Brown's peak. I came across an old trail that starts at the OHV area and goes up to Big Saddle, with a few old maps showing a connection to the peak trails. I want to check that out soon since it's cooling down. Not nearly a CTC but it sounded fun, anyway.

Congratulations on both the hike and the video. How do u extract the audio that ur using from the video? His music is beautiful.
@MoonJuiceHikes Жыл бұрын
Oh he’s great! He does a lot more on electric, but the acoustic stuff fits the hiking vibe much better. I use a screen grab software to record video of his video, then detach the audio and splice it in using editing software.

I heard the trail seems to disappear in some spots. Any issues with that? Congrats!
@MoonJuiceHikes Жыл бұрын
@WestShoreMan Actually there was a spot where the trail heads up a loose-rock gully where the trail did sorta disappear among the loose rock. However, AllTrails and GAIA both have the route loaded, so absolutley impossible to lose it with a GPS map downloaded. Go for it!
@Smashycrashy6 ай бұрын
In person, just follow the trail with the most footsteps on it. Sometimes this is behind you so having your head on a swivel is a good thing. Someone went through with a machete and cleaned up the trail, it is much easier to follow now than just a year ago. The leaves would close across the trail and it would be easy to get sidetracked on a game trail.
