I am a recovering Rhino addict. The fluidity of blender and sketcher works counter to my way of thinking about CAD design but the potential of Blender for Jewelry design is mind boggling. The fluidity of blender along with the ability to move and adjust on the fly as the design develops in my minds eye is simply astonishing. Adding this to my 3D printer opens a whole new world ... no, a whole new universe to my creativity. Thanks for this and your other instruction videos.

I think these kind of videos are great because it shows practical uses of the different constraints, as someone completely new to CAD like software I don't really know the terms yet. Thanks for the video!

It has potential, formulas and variables will make it quite useful. Of coarse I am comparing it to Acad products so it has a way to compete, but for little items this could work, l am impressed by the progress, keep it up.

That's what I'm waiting for, too. Hunting for a particular constraint to copy in a complicated model is *NOT* something I want to spend my time on when I can just type 'mmBoltHole(chassisMountBoltType, chassisGeneralTolerance + chassisHoleTolerance(chassisMountBoltType))' in the constraint definition box. (For readers that aren't used to it, yes, that is a lot to type, but coders memorize stuff like that all of the time and the variable table is always a hand reference. It is also a *GODSEND* for maintenance; the given example tells you *EXACTLY* what went into defining the constraint for a hole, which a hardcoded value like '13.875' just can't do.)

I really like this format. Challenges really help show the current short comings of the tool and highlight improvements to be made. Great work!

Very Nice! Remember in such cases, if you want uniform thickness, external radius must be the internal radius plus the wall thickness.

Ahhh. Those outer corners radius where driving me crazy, thanks for fixing them in the end! Looking forward for any and all updates. This project really has it! Sorry for the bad english. ;b

I was getting frustrated just watching, the radius fillet tool will be a big addition. I am a Rhino 3D user and am in the process of learning Blender, this took less then 2 minutes in Rhino 3D, having your design thoughts to work from helped. In Rhino, I would have placed/positioned both the fillament diameter and the reel wall thickness profiles down. Sketch the inner profile around the fillament and reel wall with the Polyline tool. Apply a desired radius fillet to the Vertices. Offset the Polyline, with the radius beveled vertices, .8 outward. This would eliminate the need to calculate start finish and radius of outer curve. Join the ends of the 2 segments with radius bevel. Finaly extruding the polyline curves caping the surface ends.

I've never understood why people are obsessed with the time it takes to draw in CAD - it's the argument people had in the 1980's - I was asked once how much fast work was produced by CAD than working by hand - I said it is the same! - its was like saying word processor makes you type faster! its the thought in the design that makes the difference

How do you make the edges look so smooth, even on the default cube? Do you use a different shader on the 3d viewport?

Thanks to your videos I will be able to carry out my project of a cnc milling machine, thanks for sharing! I only have one question whose answer would help me a lot, how do you manage to put the keyboard and mouse on the screen, is that I have to video document a software that I am developing and it is a lot of work, I would really appreciate it, a hug!

Ok, so I'm running into an issue with the addon, CAD Transform. Some of the shortcuts work but other don't. Also, the shortcuts don't work at all on 1 computer I use while some of the shortcuts work on another. I've already reported the bug to the Dev.

Why set construction lines for the width when you can just set the width by setting the distance between the two lines?

I think he was planing to make an equal constraint on all of them but forgot because the time was running out.

Offset, fillet, and "T, L, and X" intersection tools would be huge. Not very useful without. Control of ldistances has too many clicks. 1Draw line, 2 -3-4 to change to construction line ( I'm counting having to look in menu as a click) 6 click in the box, 7 input.

solidworks is getting slower and slower with each year.. if blender get decent fillets, extrude, profile sweep profile along such line profile and loft between two profiles.. 99% of solidworks nonsheetmetal parts can be made faster and for free.. if then blender gets sheetmetal capability solidworks is dead.. i love solidworks but solidworks is getting so anoyingly slow that its almost impossible to work.. each time i need to do somthing in solidworks i think if i can do it in some another soft.. ( im talking about adwanced parametric models.. like design tables are aids to open and close.. slow af if u have alot of equations its almost guaranteed model ll be fucked cause some dimension will go thru zero and will never come back.. working with equation itself feels like strugle..

I use Rhino 3D its fast but my work is shifting more and more to symetrical solid modeling with organic components. So I agree once Blender incorporates more cad features it will shake the CAD market

As it is, this is promising but not useful for assemblies because everything resets to world space origin. To see what I mean, parent the thing you designed to a "spool" object, and/or a "filament" object. Move the objects as desirrd. Then enter the sketch and exit. Boom, your assembly is toast.

I wish there was a way to contact you directly. I worked 10 years teaching SDRC Ideas which works like Cad Sketcher. I see the possibles to be had. I think I can be a big help with this add on. I do not deal well with social media as a method of communication at least at first. Give me an email connect to you and I will send an intro response.
