Thank you so much. I just updated my Goggles X firmware and at the end of it my display was black, so I held the back button like you suggested and it returned to the home screen. For anyone else wondering, I used a brand new SD card that was unformatted and arrived in the exFAT format.

There s a file size setting that defaults to 5 minutes. To prevent the files being split, you need to increase this setting along with doing the kernel update.

They must have a very small team. Normally you’d release stability only releases separate from your feature branch. But they seem to work on one branch of the firmware as they go.

I've tested multiple fw versions with bugs/features etc that haven't appeared in the release versions. Caddx are in the unenviable position where half the community is calling for things NOW, while the other half are asking for things to slow down until full stability is reached. Their release strategy is an attempt to appease everyone.

@Ian, Have you heard (Hyaard) anything about a power increase coming? Maybe something to go along with the 4K cam? After the update on my 1st flight with 1 copter I just flicked through the power options to see what was available, expecting to see nothing above 500mw but I got 1000, 1200 and 2W, I set it to 500mw as normal and flew, next pack the option was gone. It seemed to be only available on the first boot before the goggles and VTX had fully shaken hands.

STILL OVERHEAT ?!?! I received my gogglesX 2 days ago, 1st thing I did is use this video to help update the Kernel and to Beta 36.42.4 (Thank You!) I did 3 consecutive flights of 5 min each, and my gogglesX is burning flaming hot on the right hand side. So hot I am concerned the plastic will get burned, it is also too hot to comfortable handle and touch, it is way to hot for electronics. I even feel the hot air blowing on my face and it is uncomfortable. I am very worried what will happen on longer flights and longevity of electronics. I have to mention we have Summer here in the Southern Hemisphere, and it was sunny a summer's day but I was sitting in the shade. So either my unit is faulty, or the heating problem is not sorted yet. What you guys think?

Nice overview of the kernel vs no kernel update. One thing everyone should keep in mind; the kernel update risk also applies to the video transmitters on the quads. Power cannot be interrupted - AND they must not get too hot and shut themselves down during the kernel update process. This is especially important to watch out for in the case of the 1s vtx that gets hot fast you don’t want to mess around without a fan. I’ve read that if you choose to flash the kernel update to the goggles and don’t flash the kernel update to the vtxes, then you can do that, but you’ll have to deal with the annoying firmware mismatch error. I updated one full size vtx, two 1s vtx, and one VRX all successfully yesterday. What I think overall is that caddx should include some kind of confirmation screen to at least check battery life in their software. And warn the user about moving the goggles and disconnecting the cable, etc, with a confirmation screen before flashing. The update process seriously needs a progress bar also. Feel like caddx is really missing some very basic stuff that could help deter bricking. Your videos are helpful but I am annoyed that Caddx doesn’t do more basic things to protect their customers when they release updates like this. Checking battery life is sufficient before pushing an update to the goggles should be simple.

Where do you draw the line? Does your car manufacturer pop round to check you've properly secured your seatbelt before driving away? It's just common sense stuff.

@@tmc-fpv Not sure why you used vehicles and seatbelts as an example because any car made in the last 10 years barks at you immediately when you don’t put your seatbelt on. Sure, ok, they’re not actually hiding in the bush to make sure you put it on in the end, so I’ll give you that… but I digress… I think it goes both ways. It’s 2024, and basic safeguards that would take a few minutes of development time are also common sense. The battery voltage check is a simple conditional, it’s not rocket science and isn’t asking much.

​@@tmc-fpvi think It's a joke ? The comparison is not good. For the dévelopers It's not realy difficult to download firmware, verify and at the end aply new firmware. You only need two space one for curent firmware and one for new firmware. It's not new a lot of provider like hp do it since 20 years and perhaps before 😂

I'm trying to do the kernal upgrade on mine. Formated the card in the goggles, put card in pc and copied file, ejected card and put it in the goggle. I get the beeping and the progress bar but a message says "no upgrade"?

Didnt know you could calibrate the proximity sensor. My X’s keep going off when I’m wearing them with that function turned on. Had to turn it off. Will be useful to see how.

Hmm, i downloaded the latest firmware version from Caddx; 37.42.3_stable, it doesn't have that kernel update folder.

Hey Ian, have you heard of anyone having issues with "unlocking the goggles" after this firmware update. I've updated to the non kernal version and when I attempt to unlock the goggles for full transmit power It only unlocks all the channels and leaves the other menus such as transmit power, bit rate etc. greyed out in the menu. I also only have a moblie 7s, so a 1s vtx, is it fully limited to just the 25mw?

Updated my goggles right when I got them and they weren’t great for about five packs and then all of a sudden no power was being brought to the goggles aside from the fans. No LEDs on the front, no screens, and no boot up logo. I cannot do anything now.

Ian I'm new to fpv. I'm getting my first real goggles . The walksnail goggle X I don't want these goggles to be ruined right away so I'm thinking I should power them up first to see if they work correctly and then do the update the non-kernel firmware to be safe? Do I format the SD card in the goggles first or on the computer? Don't want to screw this up please help me

Yea format in goggles is the best way first. Just make sure you have a full battery and you will be fine and don’t be tempted to disturb it.

The Wi-Fi enabled function might explain why once I updated my goggles every time I power them up my tv stops streaming. Never did it before. It’s a Roku tv and if it’s on a stream service, I power the goggles on, the tv freezes and gets a spinning progress logo. Not sure if this is anything to be concerned about now, but possibly in the future. I’m wondering if anyone else has noticed this.

I did the not kernel update . Just got them don't want to have to send them back .To give you guys a heads up my goggles are beeping Non-Stop when I started the update. This is my first pair of goggles. Is there a way to have it not to have it beeping while doing my next update?

No beeping in update is normal.

@@FrogHopper23No you cannot stop the beeping. It’s purpose is to constantly remind you the update is running and don’t loose power or power off or you’ll brick them. That beeping is for an attention grabbing annoyance purpose to keep you attentive. Peace my friend. Happy New Year.

I got problem with updating my goggles to 37.42.3 lates firmware. The goggles says NO UPDATE. SD Card is formated by goggles. Tested on several different sd card with same result. Does anyone had simillar problem ??

@@MrMartinRome your gonna be outta luck as every release will be labelled as a beta. But it's purely a means of acknowledging that there is still work to be done, noted in the release notes. Testers like myself are making sure tho that any official release won't damage your hardware.

At the end caddx has got attention big enough to push them to deliver even though a bit late for most customers. I wonder if they had won anything compared to start selling when the system is fully ready - for everyone. My kids at least now learned a lesson about marketing. What I can not explain to them is that the market is big enough for all the offers we see today. A niche market with so many systems is usually too small and therefore one competitor will retreat or go bankrupt cause this market is not the world of unlimited growth or even worth: no growth at all anymore if you define or limit the market to digital fpv What I still miss or have not heard of again is the magic, mystic box from the baltic state, the orqa system from that CES 3 years ago or so.
