yeah with a lot of their builds they say it’s “budget friendly” so they’ll reuse some parts, but they always use the garbage parts that should have been thrown away, and they ended up spending MORE than they should have
@salninethousand24963 жыл бұрын
500 Caddy was not designed to be performance motor, like the big block Chevy, or even the big block BOPs. It's quite limited by low RPM valve train, small valves and decidedly non-performance heads. Here, they didn't touch the pistons (i.e. still very low compression ratio, plus there's bound to be some blow-by) and a cam only slightly larger than stock (peak power at ~4500 RPM) is never going to make a bunch of power. Stock, this motor had ~150 rwhp, so the bump to 250 rwhp is 67%, which is excellent. Factor in losses and this build pretty much duplicates the MY1970 400 hp 500, so not too shabby all in all.

Mopars 340 six pack was rated at 290hp when actual was 356hp and with a set of headers jumped to 376hp. Manufacturer ratings were purposely low for government and insurance reasons.

I'm not surprised that the power numbers are kinda low. My friend had a 76 Eldorado with the 500 CID that he tried to turn into a sleeper. He couldn't get it to do what he was expecting it to do,it was a dog. I think he expected it to have alot more power than it ended up with. Eventually he gave up on the Caddy engine and dropped in a mildly Hot Rodded Olds Rocket 455 out of a 70 Vista Cruiser. That engine motivated the Eldorado much better than the Cadillac. I made and welded in the engine mounts. His father used to be really into Oldsmobile cars,and he was part owner of a wrecking yard from 1974 to 1997ish.
