Wow. Seems like a great shop with helpful, knowledgeable people. Hope I get to London some day.

It's great that interesting shops like this exist. I really like the Cadehead label. Some amazing whiskies there I'll bet. The gentleman working there was great too, really knew his stuff. The older chap made a very valid point about changing tastes. Port Ellen stocks are highly sought after however the distillery wouldn't have closed if that had always been the case.

Watching this in October 2020 in the Bay Area - the thing I'm most excited about in this video is the rain!

Cadenhead's shops might tend to be a tad small, but they more than make up for that with both the range of offerings and their inherent quality as "integrity bottlings", to use a phrase once coined on the Isle of Man. Great stuff, Phil and Deepa! Cheers.

Lovely visit, and the staff was very congenial. I suppose it was a good day to stop in since it was raining and foot traffic was light. I find it very interesting that you are allowed to film in so many locations. It's free advertising of course, but here in the US, retailers are very protective. I don't know why. It's not like anyone can't just walk through the door and look about. I suppose I can chalk it up to American paranoia and over-competitiveness. Anyway, this was very enjoyable. Thank you.

I find it is relaxed in the US as well mostly. I always go in first and chat a bit then ask if I can shoot some video. Never really a problem. Glad you liked it.

I didn’t go to the London Cadenheads (and now I regret I didn’t), but I don’t think there’s any better shop, across all locations, for whisky-geekage and conversation.

Port Ellens were produced very much to similar specifications to Caol Ila was and more or less, still is. The PPM of Port Ellen in the 1980s was around 35 PPM, just like Caol Ila today. The spirit was however heavier with more sulphury feints than Caol Ila, so that young Port Ellens were, shall we say, a bit challenging! They were however excellent fillers to add character to blends. As Port Ellen gets older, the heavy sulphur notes and peat subsides to create something actually quite similar to something between the official bottlings of Caol Ila 18 and Caol Ila 25. Diageo are working on reproducing the same style of spirit which I believe does have a place a in the market but in my opinion, should be bottled at minimum 16 Year, rather like Lagavulin.
