Here is a quick rebuild of a suspension compressor for a 2008 Cadillac Escalade ESV, but the compressor has been used for multiple years. As you can see it’s a much simpler device than it would first appear, and while the majority of the components are not replaceable its pretty simple to take them apart and lubricate them so you will get a few more years out of them. OR spend $300 and get a new one 😊

THANKS. Between KZbin and other resources almost everything is rebuildable these days. People just need a little confidence, but at the end of the day even if you break it you aren't out anything if you were going to replace it anyway.

this is exactly what i tell people. most parts for these NNBS’s are remans anyway … i have a huge pride issue with buying reman parts because they are just that….remanufactured. meaning - they can be rebuilt & if that’s the case - i am full well capable of doing so myself - as there is a way to do it. cores - they’re core charged for the simple purpose of whom you bought it from to then go & rebuild what you didn’t realize that you could - & resell it for pure profit. i realized long ago that if something is broken - i ahve nothing to lose & just valuable knowledge to gain by trying my hand at repairing what has broken - best case scenario is - i learn a wealth of information whether i succeed or i fail & i save a fortune in doing so - worst case - i learn a wealth of information & am in the same place i started at without having lost anything. thanks again. i’ve been searching for this video for 2 years. i am self taught & i was so excited i pulled my compressor a few hours ago & i’ve been at my bench since 😂

Yep. I love people that take the time to actually investigating a problem and fixing it vs just throwing a new part at it. I have the same thing planned for my aurora compressor.

Well the majority of things are just plumbing, a little electrical and some mechanical bits. It's not as crazy as people think.

Thanks for this video, it helped me discover why my A.L.C wasn't kicking in on my DTS 2006. The motor runs when hooked to a 12V power source but then I checked the solenoid... After removing the metal cap, I found that it was heavily rusty.

Might be able to cleanup the solenoid and get it working again since it doesn't really have a lot of moving parts.

The solenoid coil turned out to be encapsulated and thus unserviceable --> i.imgur.com/A5eYi4c.jpg Fortunately, I found a compatible compressor in working condition at my local U-pull. The A.L.C. is back in business! :D

Great video. I might add that you can take the air dryer apart and replace the drying beads while you have it on the bench.

Thanks for this video. I replaced mine a couple years ago and its making a racket now. I suspect its got some crud in it. I'm going to take it apart and clean it. It seems the only ones available now are cheap knockoffs that only last a year or 2. Thanks again.

You are welcome! The individual components are pretty simple. Once its off the vehicle you should be able to identify the noise pretty quickly.

Thank you for this video. I already bought a replacement air compressor, but I want to see if I can take the old one apart and get it going again. I was afraid of taking it apart improperly and destroying it.

You got this! Its just a bunch of simple pieces all packaged together. The worst part is the wiring inside the solenoid, if you take that apart the wires are about the thickness of a human hair.

Does the power from the compressor need to be hooked up to a 12v power supply? I measured the resistance for the power and ground for the actual compressor motor (not solenoid, i havent gotten to unwinding all the copper coil yet), and its reading anywhere between 150 ~ 300 ohms! Is this normal? I tried hooking up just a regular 9v battery, but i dont hear that buzzing noise. Is that because it needs 12v power? I look forward to your reply!

I'm not sure what the resistance should be but you need to use 12V DC power with enough Amps to turn the motor. I would suggest a 12V car battery.

Mine is working fine but just loud, sounds like it’s vibrating a lot. You know of it’s possible to replace some rubber bushings or am I stuck spending a couple hundred to quiet it?
@hotrod-machines
@hotrod-machines 2 жыл бұрын
There aren’t many “bushings” to replace. Just the ones that dampen the vibrations. You should be able to find replacements for them at a hardware store. Look for rubber grommets. But if the motor is vibrating that bad the bearings may be gone. In that case replace the unit.

Which wire did u connect to run compressor at end of video
@hotrod-machines
@hotrod-machines 9 ай бұрын
I honestly don't remember, but you should be able to trace the wires from the motor to the pins on the connector. Its a DC motor so it shouldn't be too complicated.

I followed ur video, Solinoid clicks and the motor runs but when I install it runs for 4 seconds and shuts off.. I even unplugged the sensor and still same thing so thatt tells me it’s sensor so if you think same we are on right track thanks yo ur video

Sorry for the late reply. But if it runs on the bench and pumps air its possible that one of your air lines is plugged and that the compressor is reaching pressure very, very fast. Check that the air lines to the shocks are clear and maybe blow so air from your compressor through them.
