Thanks for the video. After the $530. estimate to replace all (8) plugs I decided to replace all (8) of mine today and I will say, the passenger side was an absolute bitch. I'm exhausted after wrestling with whatever the super thin electrical box is in the way of #2 & #3 coils and ultimately resolved to just bend the metal tabs that hold whatever they do, just to get them out of the way. I saw no other easy way. Ooooof but after $130 for plugs and tools, I did save $400. Thanks

@Pink Caddy Garage, While I'm asking questions, one of the other problems I have is with the dashboard. It's all plastic on mine and it has several long thin cracks (sun baked I'm guessing). I considered replacing it when I have time, but I saw a few videos on other Cadis that showed the dashboard had disintegrated when they tried to remove it. Any ideas? The car runs great, it has as many miles on it as I do, 175000, but it works much better.

Since that dashboard is probably long out of production, your best bet is going to be tried to find one from an area that is not so sunbaked. I have had success getting other interior parts from the Pacific Northwest and even up north where the cars rust but the interiors don’t bake. One other option is to call up a place called Just Dashes. They are expensive but apparently do nice work!

I watched ur video to do my own spark plugs and I was wondering if there is a reason why u gapped them at .050? My manual said 0.044 (Mine is an 07 with more miles than your 09.)

I bought those spark plugs at rockauto.com and they were OEM recommended gap at .050 and they came pre-gapped I think at .062 so I went with the OEM recommendation

I've seen several folks make videos of changing spark plugs on the NorthStar V8. Problem is, they did exactly like you did, they changed one plug in the front where it is easy. I would like to see the complexity of changing the rear plugs. Those are the ones that could get difficult. Can you help?
@pinkcaddygarage267
@pinkcaddygarage267 2 жыл бұрын
George, thanks for the comment. The reason the fronts are the video subjects is because that is about the only decent camera angle that properly shows the process. The fronts, middles and rears are no more or less difficult that any other plugs on the SRX, where the engine is longitudinally-oriented. Changing all 8 went surprisingly quick.

@@pinkcaddygarage267 Thanks so much. I once paid $800 to the dealer to change my plugs at 99,000 miles. Dont know what he did but when he returned the car you could smell burning oil that he must have spilled on the exhaust manifold. Took a long time to get rid of that smell. I'm going to give it a shot but before I do I have to resolve the issue with the Right bank Catalytic converter. The light has been on for years. Cataclean used to turn it out but recently I'm having trouble getting the engine light to go out. Take care and thanks again

I think you’ll find it bolted to the left side of the engine block, underneath between the engine and the exhaust manifold/converter.

I finally installed that catalytic converter. It is working fine but now I have no A/C and the battery is not holding a charge. I am getting intermittent warnings to service the Anti Theft system and service the tire pressure monitor and sometimes the traction control. Not sure if this is all battery related or the ECM. The dealer warned me about the ECM about 5 years ago and now I cant find an ECM for sale. Any ideas
@pinkcaddygarage267
@pinkcaddygarage267 2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t worry about the ECM just yet. Sounds like a battery problem to me. I would try to verify that by unhooking the battery from the car put it on the charger overnight to get it completely charged up then hook it back up and see what happens. Also if you have a code scanner use it to clear any existing codes.

Well it turned out you were correct. I couldn't figure out the electrical problem. Finally I had a fellow make me a new cable to run directly from battery to the starter. Problem solved. Still had a battery drain. I pulled the fuse for the radio. Drain gone. I removed the discs from the CD player and put the fuse back in. Now every thing is working fine. Took me from mid March until the 4th of July but it's all working fine. I even got my front turn signals working again.

Wow, congratulations on finally chasing everything down! I just completed a 5-month-long brake job on a 1929 Model A Ford pickup, so I know how you feel.
@geocoy3
@geocoy3 2 жыл бұрын
I had a 1929 model A e few years ago. To me it was a big waste of time. It looked beautiful but it needed everything. The more worked on it the more frustrated I got. There are Model A clubs out there that have many members. Because there are so many of the " As " out there, there is no chance the car will appreciate in value. I couldn't get used to the idea of having the gas tank in your face. If someone hits you with one of today's cars you are going up In flames. I never felt comfortable out on the road. Ended up selling it for a loss.

Sorry, I do not have a video on that yet. That SRX was my company car for a few years and then I gave it to my mom, and she still is driving it. I don’t even think it has 85,000 miles on it yet. So, the catalytic converters seem to still be in great shape.

@@pinkcaddygarage267 For the question about the catalytic converter, I do have some concerns. Maybe you can take a look at this video I made and if something comes to mind I would appreciate what you have to say. I am concerned I will need to drill out some rusted corroded bolts, that could be troublesome. I dont have welding skills so I have to preserve all parts as they are. @@geocoy3 Hello George. After watching your video, it's my understanding that the part you're planning on buying has the converter integrated with a new exhaust manifold. So, removal consists of the manifold to head bolts and two converter to exhaust pipe bolts. I understand your concern is corrosion on those two bolts. rather than starting off by attempting to drill them out, I think I'd thoroughly apply PB Blaster to those bolts and see if they come off. If that fails and you round off the nuts, you'd still have the option of drilling or cutting them off. If you have to cut them off, I imagine things would be tight around that area. If you can get a Dremel up there and go through a few cutting wheels, you may be able to get it off.

I hate to keep posting this stuff on your post but I am not getting any feed back on my own post Im working my way thru a process of removing the right Cat Converter on my 2004 SRX.. Problem is many of the connectors are fragile due to age so Im being extra careful not to break anything. Im working on the fuel injector wiring connectors. They look like they probably pull off but I cant find a release tab to remove these without breaking them. The attached video is a picture of the connector on my car. Ive tried the obvious things but I cant find a release tab so Im am looking for ideas or suggestions. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3W0ZGOcl918b9U

Sorry I didn’t see this come in until just now. I’m pretty sure that orange piece is a lock so that you can’t undo the connector without pulling it up or somehow out-of-the-way first. You shouldn’t have to force it. If you do it will break. Sorry I’m not anywhere near my SRX for the next few days.

@@pinkcaddygarage267 and you are correct sir. When I started working on the harness I immediately noticed they are old and briittle. So I became alarmed so I started asking anyone and everyone how to get these guys undone carefully. without breaking them. The answere is DW 40 and then try to undo the locks. Some are complex, so I still have to be very careful. I joined a Cadilac Forum to see if I could get some good advice there. They seem to have a lot of experience but I have yet to find anyone who replaced a Cat Conveter on the first generation SRX. Apparently it is way too difficult. Some have replaced Valve pans and other things on the top of the engine but no Converter. The instructions from those I have been talking too and info from AllData says it can be done with much patience. So I'm still plugging away at it. One day at a time. Thanks again for your concern
