I want them to bring back some of the long low magnificent body styles. Look at that 1957 Eldorado and you gasp because it is so magnificent. The 1988-89 Brougham had the most luxurious interior of any Cadillac I have ever seen. Walnut trim, buttoned leather seats that felt like clouds, opera lights everywhere and magnificent spoke wheels and front grill. I cried and cried when my parents traded it in. I drive a CTS today and it is like riding in a wagon compared to past Cadillac's. They have traded luxury for sport and technology. Give me back beauty, size and luxury anyday.

In 1973 with the Arab oil embargo, the ruling Democrat Party effectively nationalized the auto industry. And ever since, like good little communists do, have legislated auto mobile production to what you see today. Tin cans with no individuality or beauty at all. Cars are built by government standards. 4:15 "The tail fins took off quickly"... (Unintended word picture.) In fact, Cadillac is such a standard of excellence that it has been transplanted into other discussions such as "Cadillac health plans". I LOL'd the first time I saw the Seville in the late 70s however. It had an oddly-shaped trunk meant to improve gas mileage but always looked to me like a dog with its tail tucked between its legs. A Caddy in the front - a whipped dog in the back.

Ah, the bustle back Seville. The way I understand it that trunk profile was not for aerodynamics but rather for neoclassical styling. Cars of the 1920's had a squared off back with a literal trunk (as in pirate chest) on the back. The Seville was an 80's car trying to do a modern take on a 20's cars trunk.

Drove across country and hit many of the wonderful national parks along the way. Mom and dad stuck to the German cars after that, Mercedes and BMWs. The quality of 1970 - 1976 was best in my opinion, even with all extra features, electrical and comfort, no major repairs or breakdowns. Cruising down the road in style and comfort in every aspect with these cars. 472 engine is my favorite but the 1966 De Ville with 429 engine was also a rugged machine. The FWD Eldorado was introduced in 1967 and the Seville in 1975 I like Cadillacs, I bought my first 45 yrs ago, and have bought 4 more. I currently have a 2012 STS(Rides like it has No Springs) and a 96 RWD Fleetwood that has less than 15,000 on it. My favorite was the 86 FWB, no power but it was Comfortable, and road like a Cadillac, Novocain Numb, unlike the previously mentioned STS. They have also been much cheaper to own than the Olds and Buicks, as they seemed to have been built a bit better, especially the Interiors

Cadillac's reputation suffered during the 80's when they put out some inferior products like the much maligned Cimarron. Since then it has recovered somewhat but is no longer in the top tier of luxury car manufacturers like Mercedes Benz, BMW, Rolls Royce, and Bentley. Today Cadillac is considered a respectable but mid level luxury car manufacturer.

That's true. By the mid 80's the cars weren't selling. Big dealerships in NYC & LA were lucky if they sold one car a week! Their customer base had aged out or the younger ones moved on to Jags & Benz's. The Escalade saved them.

@@samanthab1923 Thats not true. I was in my 20s all thru the 1980s new cadillacs were everywhere, and sold well. My dad bought a new 83 Eldorado, my neighbors had a sedan Deville, at the hospital where I work, there were lots of new cadillacs in the Doctors parking lot. It was the 90s that sales started declining. The 80s cadillacs were all very nice, the Eldorados were absolutely beautiful, until they redesigned the car in 1986. Those sold VERY POORLY.. unattractive..the 90s is when thier sales started going downhill.

@@samanthab1923 The Escalade may have saved them, but design-wise it is a huge ugly box on wheels.

I have a Cadillac XTS, best car I ever had.....so far. When I was a teen in the 70s a friend had a 1957 Cadillac and the electric windows always blew a fuse if we lowered or raised them at the same time, I thought they were junk.

I've owned two Fleetwood model 75. a 1980 limousine and a 1971 model 75 4 four door sedan. when i was young i watched banacek and the 1971 model 75 limousine impressed me. some day I want to own one myself. that has been a couple of decades ago. I am sorry I sold the 1971. it is class, sophistication and comfort in one motor car! my Cadillacs are the American high water mark of excellence!

Orange County California. Grandparents had a new 71 coupe de ville. Cream leather seats, new. They took us to an orange grove site seeing. We got buried to the axel in mud. All of us pushing it out while a Grove watchman threatened us with police for stealing oranges and trespassing. I remember the insanity of the ordeal, our muddy shoes on the floor, no one touching anything.... ahhhh memories 😱😱😱🤯🏴‍☠️

In the mid 80s my mother had a 76 Cadillac Eldorado, it was like new. In the late 80s I got a 74 Eldorado convertible, it showed its age, I used it as a beach car.

I grew up in a GM family. My dad never owned a Caddy, he liked Oldsmobile. When I decided to get a luxury car I did the unthinkable and bought a preowned Lexus. I got scared away from Cadillac after hearing some owners complain about reliability issues. The last thing you want from a higher priced vehicle is problems.

Form 1955 thru 1975 Cadillacs are some more of hardest car's to restore but nice when done. Why because of all hard to get lectronics like power windows door locks and all of the other lugry features with thick heavy over sized wiring harness and wires that were in Cadillacs at the time. That's what cars restoration guys and gals tell me I seen a 1966 Cadillac at a restoration shop 3 years ago and it had a big thick wiring harnes and wires the guys were messing with puting it back to original.

Normally you are pretty thorough, but this one fell short for Cadillac lovers. The first front wheel drive Eldorado was in 67'. You barely scratched the surface of Cadillac firsts. The NorthStar Engine, like the one in my 89' Fleetwood, had so many innovations that most engines use today.

No mention of some of the most important Cadillacs ever made in 57 and 58 I think somewhat of 700 were made total most expensive cars in the world at the time had everything they could put on one in them Cadillac made the statement throughout the world that it can build a car that would be the most luxurious those models cost more than rolls-royce's at those years also. Very complicated automobiles I restored a 58 coupe DeVille, and a 62 Fleetwood limousine.

Its unfortunate that today's Cadillacs don't have the style and luxury that were standard in past years. I have bought 3 of them over the years and it seems to me that in successive years each has lost of the past plusses. Today's cars look like boxes with wheels. Whatever happened to "body by Fisher". ???
