Join us for a circular walk in beautiful Denbighshire, North Wales. We measure the route at around 10 miles. It is mostly pretty flat, but with short steep climbs up from the River Dee valley and the stretch up to Caer Drewyn hill fort.
We started from our camp site Gaer Hyfryd, but you could easily start the route in Cynwyd or Corwen.
Many thanks for watching!

Hello again to you two!! Look at all that beautiful green!! Can you imagine the muscle power and effort it must have taken to get those field stones in place...amazing!! So much fantastic history in these areas!

Hi Bruce & Otis! Yes, and the same with all the tonnes of stone that went into constructing the hill fort. Amazingly resourceful folk back then! Hope you are both keeping well. Catch you soon👍☺

Hi Des, hope you are good and well! It looks like you found a great place to escape the busy bank holiday crowds. Lovely walk and very peaceful. The last time I visited the Berwyns, I was clagged out so may need to visit again soon. Thanks for sharing Des

Hi Nathan. It's a lovely area. I'm looking into basing ourselves at a different site next time, to make a better starting point for some of the mountains. The hill fort was well worth a visit though! Cheers for watching👍

Bisons in Wales is not what I expected. I thought it was mostly sheep. 😊 An area full of history. Lot of green and mostly quite easy flat walking. Beautiful statue of the revolution leader. Have a great day! Kaat

Hi Kaat! The bison we managed to get close to didn't look too happy with his Welsh home! 😁 It is a beautiful area of a beautiful country. We are lucky to have it so close by. All the best & catch you soon👍☺

Solid walk there Des. That hill Fort seemed like such an important place for Wales. I'm always in 2 minds about the old railway lines as on one hand it serves as pathways and walking routes but on the other cuts off communities to each other. I have to say the highlight was the Bison. They looked amazing. Wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of one but really unusual on a hike. Thanks for taking us along and hope you are both doing well. Speak soon. Happy hiking as always 👍😃👍🥾🥾🥃🥃

Hi Scott. We had a great weekend in the area! The hill fort was the highlight for me (probably the FA Cup final result was the highlight for Maria 😂). Yes, thos old railways make great footpaths. And they've struck a good balance in this area, as they've restored the line from Corwen to Llangollen, but others have been left as footpaths. Hope you are keeping well and steering clear of the midgies now it's that time of year again! 👍😁

Wonderful place Des. And wonderful views. Incredible size and the time and effort to get those stones into place - just amazing. Fascinating to see the stone walls near the river too. Again so much effort to build those and dig them in. I thought you had flown over to the Great Plains at the start!! Bison!!!!! Wow! Corwen looks an interesting place. Cheers both. And loved the song of the Blackcaps throughout.

Hi Dave. The hill fort was an amazing place to visit. Lovely area, and we'll definitely be back. The whole valley is nicely wooded, so plenty of birdlife around. Cheers & catch you soon👍☺

Anyone who wanted to sack that fort would have to have a lot of stamina to get up there and then fight. I bet it was an impressive structure in its time. I loved the old slate field dividers too, I've not seen them before. Certainly a beautiful hike Des, thanks for sharing.

Driven through so many times and never stopped once (a shame ) but Des you did and what a great hill walk you had (those hill forts are fascinating (shame I know so little about them 😢)) as we have one in the Malverns and caer caradoc in the Shropshire hills Too A well earned beer mate 👍🤠👌🏻 Best wishes Simon

Hi Simon. I do love a good hill fort! The Berwyn's do have more challenging walks, but I guess a lot of people pass through on their way to Eryri. I think Maria enjoyed this fairly low level route, so I may have to save the higher ones for a solo visit 😁 Hope all is well with you! Catch you soon👍☺

Two coincidences, I am reading a book in which Corwen plays a minor part. The second is once again I am coming on while eating my supper and you have a video for me LOL Lovely walk, sorry you missed the train.

Hi David. That's interesting what was the book? I'm sure quarrying played a major part in the town's history, but the few info boards weren't overly helpful!

@@DesGreene The book is an old one called Omega by Stewart Farrar. Corwen is an emergency centre for handling victims of a dust. It is my do not know what to read next so lets have something I do not have to think about book LOL.

You are for sure in Owain Glyndwr country des. A lovely walk along the lanes and river - green to the doors. I imagine them stone boundary walls would have been harder work than just fashioning wooden fences. They certainly look hefty. Well, stone was the thing as was Iron. A pretty impressive fort that des. All hand built eh? Well, good going. I see the big hills in the distance. All the best. Mark

Hi Mark. It is a very green and pleasant area. And the Berwyn range offers more challenging hiking if you're in the mood. I'll definitely stay in the area again, as it's pretty easy for us to get to. The hill fort was fantastic. Easily the best one I've visited. Cheers & see you soon! 👍☺

Blimey! That did look well preserved Des....looks like they've only just left. I'm wondering if the Cynwyd you mentioned is the one I stayed at many years ago. We stayed in the youth hostel and it was freezing.....I had about five of those horrible itchy blankets in a futile effort to keep warm. We did the Berwyns the next day.

Hi Chris. Yes, must be the same place. It's on the North Berwyn Way, so probably a good location for a hostel (although I saw no sign of it). I remember those YHA blankets! Your sheet sleeping bag was your best friend! 😂 All the best & catch you soon!
