For some reason this mission is a lot harder than the civil mission. I agree, food is definitely a huge issue in this one. Is set up your military on the mountain. Not the city. City goes near the river, and then you want to stockpile lots of food at some point and make sure all of your other objectives are completed except for population. Which is ridiculous. On a military mission. And 2500 being on a civil mission? Does it make sense? Yeah I know. Anyway, before you make your last hurdle to the $4,000 population, make sure you have lots of full granaries and the infrastructure set up for the population and then just rush it. For the last objective that is.

@@RyanJosepher yeah I've always just placed the housing blocks/area in the open area between the farms and coast. It takes some logistics to get the food coverage setup but it's a fun early challenge.

Thank you for the video! 33:50 It may be late to mention, but, most likely, no, the Senate is spawned the same as the forum. It is good seen in yours first video in this Augustus series. Where you build the Senate and the walker spawned on the north side of it.

Does rotating it actually have any functional effect? It looked weird to me when I accidentally did it, so just immediately reset it to the default orientation!

@@rainbowevil in very rare instances if cart pushers/market ladies do not have access to the entry tile (say you’re up against a rock or something), it’s helpful to be able to rotate to change the entry tile. Also, because of where caravans enter through, you can shave off a few milleseconds to be as efficient as possible trading. However, mostly it’s for looks.

Zakh, you kinda broke your destination worker by placing a crossroad at 51:36 while doing gaps in aqueduct -- that's why things went unstable!

@@0lympy Oh those are just the buildings that are not being force walked, like those temples. All the walkers being forced won't turn that way because they ignore all intersections.

GamerZakh finally broke Caesar 3, I guess! With forced workers going everywhere, this exploit is so powerful. It's also interesting what will be possible with open loops (I'm already testing some ridiculously effective layout ideas). Though the concept was around for a long time, I think, now it's really taking off with your FW campaign. I was waiting for the next episode and clicked the like button even before the video had started.

Augustus has only really been in production for about a year, after it took 10 years to make the Julius open source. They're trying to get all sorts of things in now, even setting up colonies on the world map and conquering foreign cities like in Zeus.

pottery is consumed at a very high rate in this game so, while you had some in the warehouse, the markets hadn't got so much to back up supply. I think that you needed an extra market literally dedicated to just pottery, maybe in place of the theater that wasn't really needed since you spammed them through the houses anyway.

I think this mission is meant to represent the battle of corinth 146 BC, the final battle that brought Greece under the Roman empire. The annexation of Greece is mentioned in the briefing of the next mission.

it seems its far more efficient to have a market focused on one thing. The collector basically needs to be getting it asap if it runs out (which it will do basically immediatly when the distributor is near houses) so the distributor doesnt skip houses because the collector is still walking. especially for pottery as its a pretty long run to the warehouse.

The distributors can distribute all items. While the collectors only gather one item at a time, in an efficient city, they will have gathered everything they need before the distributer gets back.

@@adamcawa what do you mean? the distributor just has the items the market has at all times. so the question is is it enough time for the collector to get to warehouse/granary and get back to the market before the distributer already skipped a house for this item. and with more different items the collector has to get this scenario of houses getting skipped while the market has 0 of that item will become much more. the collectors are the problem. which means you need more of them, and you need to specialise them so they always have the shortest route as possible.

I must say that in reality the city planning does not entail a long winding one road where all the houses are located. Being a big fan, I would love to see whether it is possible to build and manage a city which resembles real cities - Barcelona for instance. Nevertheless - keep up the good work!

The way I imagine it is that the roads we build here are just the main roads, between the buildings have streets and stuff, just not part of the game mechanics.

This could be some kind of manufactured goods beltway that services a specific industrial district with an attached residential suburb. Possible to snake the loop and granary block the turns to resemble a 'normal' series of square intersections.

Keep up dude ! I finished Lugdunum with 3 forced walker blocks. One on the first island, another in the native village - you need just one mission post with this trick, awesome stuff - and another villas block at the East end of the farm land. Works pretty fine !

You will like it! It does make many "everyday life" things much simpler but, on the other hand, it makes some things much harder (try trhowing some Oracles when you cannot get your hands on some marble and you'll see). Global labor and roadblocks are things that you'll LOVE, Oracles and Large Temples (and in v3.0, Colosseum and Hippodrome) being monuments, which means not only marble but Architects and Work Camps too, not so much! It is almost a new game!

Why set the barracks to "tower" when building forts?

Generally you want to focus towers as it only takes a bit to staff them and it'll resume training troops. If you have no towers, it'll train troops anyway even if it's set to tower. It's just the priority.

It's been there since day 1, it's a quirk of the original game. It does work on water carriers in Pharaoh yes.

I think a single loop for such a large population requirement is not a good idea. Maybe you can set up 2 or more loops.

Haha that might look like a lot but it's just from a couple farms, so if I fed that to the city it would be a short burst then it would be gone with little benefit to the overall flow of food.

Yeah that's how it originally was. Before Augustus, we just used gatehouses as roadblocks.

In the options menu you can turn on global employment. Note the options menu has multiple pages.

@@bunkaaa8726 Not really because otherwise you could use feeder tents to give worker access anyway. It's sort of like roadblocks, you can replace them all with a gatehouse and it works the same.

How come when I build far from people it says that there is no workers nearby and then you can build a dock almost half a map away from your city ? I don't understand why i get those

That's an Augustus option called Global Employment so you don't have to have houses nearby. It makes it work like Zeus and Emperor.

Walkers with a destination in mind can go through roadblocks and gatehouses. Wandering walkers that move randomly can't. So a market lady going to a granary ignores roadblocks.

This was interesting for a while, but it feels like it takes away the challenge of the game. I think that's why the previous playthrough was so interesting, because it's as far removed from the 9x9 optimal strategy as possible, forcing you to put your game knowledge to the test

Don't worry, we're getting bigger and sillier as we go along. Next mission I do a dumb idea of running the loop over 3 islands. It is not efficient but much more challenging. Much like the last playthrough started with 9x9 or just rectangles and grids, but after a while we're doing fruit blocks and Frostmourne and we ended with the heretic city. Ideas come as we go.

I don't think the houses reporting not enough entertainment due to not enough of theaters is a weird mechanic, and actor colonies are beneficial. Imagine if your city only had one theater that could seat around 500 people staffed by your local high school's drama club. Everyone can get to the theater if they wanted to, but they only have amateur acting crews. This would lead to two things that would make you frustrated. First of all, you can almost never find a seat if this is the only entertainment in town. Second, you are probably less entertained because the quality is lower, as you could are being entertained by amateurs. That on top of the fact that these amateurs have day jobs (school in the is example), they can't really create or learn enough new entertaining content for the demand and can only actually perform in the evenings. Not to say that there isn't a place for amateur entertainment, as I go to productions from my local schools, but it often doesn't have the quantity or quality for mass entertainment. Now, imagine that your city has a lot of theaters and trained actors. Everyone can still get to a theater, but there are more of them. The crews are professional, spending their days learning and creating new things to present to the people, potentially throughout the day. Everyone can generally get a seat at their nearest theater when they want, so each citizen would be more entertained due to better access. And, since the actors are professionals, they are able to devote their days to either training or performing, meaning they can entertain more people better throughout the day. This is reflected in your Entertainment advisor. Theaters who have trained actors from actor colonies entertain more people than theaters without. In fact, when you have a city stuck at large casas, you can often see them evolve the moment an actor from the actor colony reaches the theater, or when an entertainer reaches any other entertainment building. This is due to improved access provided by professional entertainment. Now, I think it is a bit odd that this is a city-wide statistic, but it is probably just a limitation of the time the game was made. But the moral of the story is that actor colonies are your friends and you should have multiple theaters (along with the other culture buildings).

The reason why I say it's weird is because you can spam them I'd a distant unconnected location and all the houses in your entire city would immediately evolve. The logic is fine but the game mechanic is weird.

@@GamerZakh I would say that is just a side effect of the limitation of the times. They do these calculations acting as though every house can get every entertainment building if they are near one of them. Which naturally leads to culture dumps. Perhaps they should have had buildings like theaters act more like markets, where the walkers "sell" a limited amount entertainment they produce to the houses and access is determined by how much they have. But that probably would have been excessive to implement for all the culture buildings in the game.

Huh I just noticed that your intro is binary gendered only. By no means do i want to force you to do something you are not comfortable with (I can't even if i wanted to xD) but since i live with a member of the lgbtq+ community i have learned how much inclusion means to marginalized people. Maybe you have one or two non binary fans watching your stuff and i'm sure it would make them very happy if they get included in the video greeting. You were very polite in your request, so I will try to respond in kind why I personally don't think it's a good idea. We live in very politicized times and for every lgbtq+ group that enjoys an added mention a fair few people will be annoyed or even outright angry. I see it as a short term gain vs. a long time loss. In the short term it's acknowledgement of marginalized groups, and that's great! In the long term i fear it will breed further resentment. I believe that this one of the reasons there is such a blowback against lgbtq+ issues. But in the end it's Zack's decision. If he does decide to change his introduction, I would recommend something completely neutral. In the vein of "people". That's non exclusive and more importantly not political. Still, as long as he still does great videos/streams I'm fine either way. =)

Generally as mentioned I don't want to make it a political thing, it should be a casual non-issue whatever I say in a greeting. 'People' works but also doesn't roll of the tongue in the current format haha. I'll have to try and think of the right phrase to change to and make sure it's not awkward or a statement of any kind because a gaming video greeting isn't the best place to get into that.

@@GamerZakh Sorry to just jump in, but I consider myself as being non-binary (and I use they/them & she/her pronouns) and I thought I would give my own opinion. I haven't really taken any offense to the intro, but I do agree it's rather limiting. If you want to change it, I would suggest "guys/gals/ and pals?" That seems to roll off the tongue! As far as "ladies and gentlemen", I'm not sure there is a real alternative, at least not one I can readily think of. It is up to you for what you decide, but I've personally never had an issue with the intro despite my identity. It's just a greeting, I get that. However, I can't speak for other nonbinary people. If you just say "guys" in the greeting, then yeah I totally agree guys is neutral, hahah. I don't think most people would take offense to that. (but your greeting in this was "ladies & gents, guys and gals" which does seem gendered in this context, lol). and, in an unrelated note, I always disliked this map.
