I believe in the original Caesar III your personal funds travel with you from mission to mission. Does this also happen in this update? Also many historians believe that the first show in the Colosseum was a navel battle. So much thanks for the Augustus team to keeping the historical accurate events and buildings of the time period.

Amazing job by the Augustus team! I got super exited when you showed the watch tower haha. As far from anything perfect that Ceasar 3's combat is, I still enjoyed marching my legionaries to form up against invaders (it was like Total War before Total War games were a thing hahah) - to that end I hope the team is/would be able to expand the military system of the game. They're killing it with everything else so far so I'm curious what would they come up with if given the ability to do so. And thanks for introducing their work to all of us GamerZakh!

One thing I love about this update is that the entertainment buildings like Arenas spawn the lion tamers and gladiators, so you can realistically build gladiator schools, actor colonies and lion pits outside the city without compromising your entertainment coverage.

looks like you can trade food directly in the granaries? Anyway a planning feature where you can build the whole project of the city (ie by using semi-transparent buildings) before you actually start creating the city would help to have really beautiful cities

Yeah, a bit more complexity would be awesome! I'd suggest nerfing towers a bit so they no longer one-shot elephants and making stacking units impossible because flags need a certain distance between them. That way it would be more about how you position your troops, not just stacking everything together I think these restrictions would make combat a bit more exciting.

It's amazing how much a game can improve when its core is just brilliant (and I love the retro graphics). Only thing I wonder (I am not a dev) is if it would be possible to implement a more advanced save/load picker with folders and subfolders, that would make things so much easier to manage also for downloaded maps, sandboxes etc

The new crime system gives me flashbacks from my utopic city. Everything had perfect coverage and education. People got old and my city started to collapse. It got so bad that the people revolted and a bunch of these brown walkers with torches spawned and started burning the whole city down. I was sold into slavery. Goes to show that you can't give plebians everything, otherwise they won't want to work.

yeah. with the age and stuff its pretty rough to have a city work for indefinitly. even if its just a tent city that uses lions for defending from ceasars army. you need around 5000 dudes with exactly 1 doctor so the old guys die soon enough for the next generation. 2 doktors could be instable again because they are too healthy and live too long.

That's soo much awsome additions to the original game. Is a whole new game. Very impressive (pun intended)!!! The mausoleum stuff get the roman history right: they had laws that prevented cemiterys to being erected inside city walls, there was a minimum distance. Love that they are adding stuff more "historical", like the Coliseum and the Circus Maximus (hippodrome) beeing a wonder/monument, as they weren't common in roman citys. As the Nymphaeum and Lararium, very present at the era (family/ancestral deities and water/nature ones were very "popular" and worshiped, almost more than the "greater" gods). Really loving it! The desarability evolving boost I think was present in Zeus and Emperor, but it's a nice mechanic. Crime and city happiness, also culture, were blend in the original, glad to see theire take on it. Hope that these great additions, "boldness", encourage others game developers to grow and try new system and mechanics beyond Impression's games, as I'm not too enthusiastic about the new historical city builders releases (Summerians is an execption, with the private/public stuff).

This mod and your chan made me replay the game with forced walkers. Now I have to replay it again probably in a more normal fashion focusing a lot on roadblocks and monuments :D. Also a tweak to the missions would be nice , for them to be way harder in terms of invasions and so on.

With all those changes I'm kinda wondering, why the people developing it don't create their own city-builder from scratch. There is lots of competition in 2021, but a competently made game by fans that truly understand what made the games great would stand out. Plus their modding experience would also give them a good reputation. Wouldn't be the first game created by former modders that does well.

Most things are just what you could do before but less tricks. Roadblocks are just gatehouses. Global labour is just feeder tents. Yeah watch towers make small invasions easier, but many things are harder now. You can't just raise taxes to make tons of money. Your troops need food. Temples, monuments, and a bunch of stuff now have extra maintenance costs. Now if you want an oracle you need to build it properly, so you must organise a marble supply and use workers on builders. Crime is more likely to happen and entertainment is more complex.

Hey Zakh, another great update and some welcome introductions to enrich our beloved ancient cities. One question for the new release and it is somewhat linked to a question about the existing 2.0.1 release that is currently out. Does the new release play on HD (1080p) or does it follow the resolution set for the actual game (c3.exe)? I am asking because I have an interesting little problem with Augustus as it is now (or maybe, I need to do something about it and don't know what?). Initially, when I downloaded the widescreen "fix" I opted to not go at my monitor's limit (1920x1080) thinking that this being a laptop with a kind of smallish screen things would look too "tiny" on screen and my tired eyes would not make things out so easily. So I went with something like 1536x864 or something like that. Later on I tried the 1080p and it seems alright only Augustus is NOT following when I play it, I can only have HD on vanilla C3, without Augustus!! Do I need to remove Augustus and reinstall it? Do I need a "better" version of it with higher resolution? And, since a new release is coming, can I finally see things in HD with the new one now that I have turned the original game executable to that res? I hope these make sense, English is not my native tongue and more often than not it fails me, especially on matters of importance! 😏 Also, when should we expect the new "goodies" to arrive?? Thanks in advance for your time and keep the good work up!

Hmm for a new player I would go either Julius or Augustus. Julius would be the best vanilla experience, Augustus now overhauls quite a bit of stuff. I'd probably play with Julius to start because it's hard to appreciate and understand the changes Augustus made without knowing the original.

This may be very ignorant of me but how do you get these upgrades? I have the Caesar III CD of the base game. Do I find these on Steam? I have Civ VI on Steam. Do I get Caesar and these mods there too?

No worries, it's always complicated setting this stuff up first time. This particular version isn't quite released yet, but when it is you first need any copy of Caesar 3 installed. Steam, GOG, or from a CD, then you download the Augustus files and put them all in the Caesar 3 install folder. Then you run augustus.exe instead and it's this version.
