PO1 Charles Bressette, a Weapons Engineering Technician, was working with his colleagues at a recruiting center in Toronto, when a man attacked with a knife. With quick thinking and incredible bravery he and three of his fellow soldiers subdued the attacker, earning each of them the Medal of Bravery. #MyCAFStory

"I threw a photocopier at him" -- said only by a badass Navy guy ;) In all seriousness, respect. It's scary how such an intense level of violence can come out of nowhere like that. Your fellow members are lucky to have a guy like you that reacted that quickly & stayed on him until the police showed up. BZ to you Mister *thumbs up*

I think all on duty domestically operating CF Members should be issued and allowed to carry a sidearm precisely for instances like this. Civil Police, RCMP, and the MP's can't respond fast enough in most violent situations such as this.

@Michael Pezzullo Uh, no. I'm asking for a MILITARY to be armed, like they're already trained and entrusted to be. Then trained SOLDIERS wouldn't have to fight off a knife attack with fricken chairs. Having an armed military in no way makes them a police force. (seriously they already have loads of guns, carrying a pistol won't make them a public threat) Carrying and knowing how to use guns is already in their job description. It would simply allow them to defend themselves when confronted with a deadly threat they are otherwise unprepared to deal with. Sounds like you'd rather see more CF members get stabbed than give them the ability to save the lives of themselves and those around them.

@Michael Pezzullo No ones going to go through a background check, safety training and buy a permit for a pocketknife. We already regulate that on public property, you can only carry a pocketknife with a blade under 3 1/2". The problem is when people abuse knives, the part of the population legally using them isnt the issue. As for the Army carrying them, they're trained to use a firearm as well as, if not better then, the RCMP or the Civi Police. I'll trust a soldier with a gun more then an attacker with a knife.

And they don’t let them carry sidearms on their person at all times. In the US there have even been mass shootings on military installations and no soldiers had immediate ready weapons access.

People like that are not apologetic. They will keep doing the same thing again and again. People like that don't learn until they are short by police seconds away from death, doing life in prison or they just die in ignorance. People like this can serve a positive purpose in life. If that's not bad enough they put innocent life in danger.
