What a legendary episode you shouldn't be thanking us for watching, we should be thanking you for sharing this with the world Jim Cornette is one hell of a person in the business, you may not like what he has to say, he may have went too far at times but he makes very valid criticisms in a lot of cases, he has been really harsh on certain wrestlers which I don't agree with and wished things could have gone differently but he is who he is and has made a big impact on wrestling especially when it came to rising stars in the 80s and early 90s and also working with upcoming talent in Louisville during 2000s. A controversial figure in wrestling but one day he may want to come on here I hope and we would love that, Rene and James you seem really keen on having him on so who knows? Thanks guys and I hope you enjoy the rest of your Thursday! P.S. If anyone wants to watch some pro wrestling tonight, the new episode of Impact will be on in around 5 hours come watch along with me fellow fans!

Renee is 100% true about what the wrestling business does to mental health... One time my friend and I went down the side of a mountain in the Poconos and we just rode up to the wrong place in the wrong time where they could have murdered us and no one would ever heard from us again and one of the WWE guys would have been blamed for it cuz he was the last one with us at the restaurant...... After I got him on the phone and explain to him the insanity that ensued after we parted ways and all he had to say is going around from place to place will make you crazy.... He's right

Rene is an intelligent guy. The way he explained the WWE's tanking live shoe business and reliance on TV was so insightful 👌
@Matt-cr4vv
@Matt-cr4vv Жыл бұрын
The constant talk about tanking live event business really isn’t truly accurate though as measured by the revenues generated from live events historically. Prior to the pandemic the company averaged between $120-140M annually for the three years prior to the pandemic shutting live events down. And this year through the third quarter the company has generated $99M in live event revenue so if that pace continued through the fourth quarter then they’ll be back to around $120M in love event revenue again, which is right in line with the levels of their recent averages for most of the years pre pandemic. Compared on a revenue basis live event revenues are actually around their highest levels over the past ten or so years. For example back in the time periods where the business was more popular like 2000-04 live event revenues at their highest level were in 2001 with around $85M of live event revenues. So yes they don’t sell as many tickets as prior times where business was more popular but on a revenue basis their live events generate much more than they did during hotter time periods. So in a true evaluation of the numbers their live show business hasn’t tanked when measured by revenues generated yearly. The difference about live events, and why they’re seen as essentially tanking despite the revenues not backing that claim, is because while the amount has remained consistent for years the live event business has become less and less a major segment of the company’s total revenues because of the giant increase they’ve gotten in their media rights deals. Live event revenue by amount has remained at its consistent levels throughout the years but the rapid jump in the amount of media rights, sponsorships and other revenue streams the company has resulted in live events becoming less and less of the big picture of the company’s business picture. As recently as 6 or so years ago the amount of live event revenue was around what it currently is but because the company ddint generate the revenues from media that they do now it accounted for around 20% of total revenues. Thanks to the media growth it has obviously shrunk in its impact to the bottom line. The live event business remains important for what the product is as a whole because such a big aspect of the show itself involves the audience as we became all too aware of with the pandemic. Wwe leaves things to be desired in terms of drawing people for live events but at the same time the pandemic demonstrated how good it can be for the company to not have to depend on the live events to be the primary source of revenues. Live events even if the product is at its peak have clear ceilings of the money that can be made because you can only fit so many people into shoes and can only charge so much money for a ticket before you price people out of being able to attend. Meanwhile media rights have a much less defined ceiling as to what can be earned by companies. And the media revenues the company brings in was clearly great for times like the pandemic where it took away the life event segment entirely. Other companies that needed live events had to shut down while a WWE was able to continue operations and end up with its highest revenue yesr ever ar that point in time despite the pandemic. Despite all of these things of course the issue will always remain as to what would happen to the company someday if the media rights they could get took a major drop. Especially considering that despite the continued giant deals they keep getting the viewers watching the shows via traditional formats on these networks continues to decline year after year. This next deal will be interesting to see.

The man is a pro wrestling almanac that knows his history, the in's and out of the business and the Midnight Express (Stan Lane/Bobby Eaton) was my original favorite tag team in the OG NWA/WcW era.

I never thought about this til rene brought it up but, cornette is a HUGE south park fan and during this time period there was a episode or maybe it was in the movie, but the whole la resistance thing he HAD TO HAVE ripped it off from south park! one of the episodes involves one of the kids saying "viva la resistance" after every fucking sentence n the kid character was some French Canadian exchange student...if anyone remembers go back n look it up! the timelines of when that south park episode/movie came out was exactly around this time period of late 90s early 2000s! cornette always is bringing up south park in his podcasts so I'm almost positive that he got that idea from south park lol, especially since he wanted every promo to end with that phrase, which is exactly how the kid from south park used it after some big monologue.
