The Smackdown locker room in the mid-2000s sounds like a shitshow. A bunch of grown ass veterans taking the made-up politics and etiquette of their scripted sport way too seriously while the young guys try to endure it and make a living. Benoit also participated in a lot of that hazing bullshit around this time and was spending a lot of time with Bob Holly, so that should tell you something about the fucked up mental state of the guys doing this shit.

I personally always enjoyed his in ring work and he was one of my favourites growing up as a fan. Only having other people's accounts of the back stage stuff(as I obviously wasn't there) it would be wrong for me to comment but we've seen several "incidents" on camera that confirm the picture people paint of Bob. Whether it makes him tough, a bully, a badass, a nutter, etc... is a matter of opinion I guess. All I can say is that I liked Hardcore Holly as a wrestler and character and so do many others. It also might be true that you might need people like him in the wrestling locker room otherwise you end up with what we have today. But again that's a matter of opinion and it does seem like he went too far at times.

Jesus Christ Bob...Johnny Ace set Rene up that's for certain, this was 2004 and last hardcore matches on shows were back in 2002 which Paul is right they got rid of when they released Raven, Crash and after getting rid of the Hardcore belt. I understand Paul felt he could have done more to stand up for Rene but it's likely Bob would have turned on him too despite not having any major heat with him at the time and what Van Dam did was good getting him off Rene after the match was done which is pathetic...beating on Rene in a shoot when he was trying to do his best to put on a decent match, Bob should have been fined and tbh suspended imo for that but since it's a set-up they wanted this to happen otherwise they wouldn't have put a Hardcore stipulation in a match at a house show in a town like Syracuse. What shittiness that no one should have to deal with especially in a company as big as WWE it's all about making sure you put on a great show and not try deliberately injure other talent on purpose especially by fighting them in a shoot. My heart is always with Rene on this one, glad Paul helped Rene get to the hospital and was supportive of him throughout, a person like Paul London to travel with on the road and is a good friend in the business is someone that makes life more bearable as a WWE Superstar.

Rene, I’d like to apologise to you. A few years ago, I defended Bob Holly for what he did to you because I’d heard his side of the story and I allowed your heel gimmick to cloud my judgement, because you were an amazing on-screen heel that was able to piss off the fans with a simple dance. After seeing you on your podcast and hearing Paul’s version of the incident, I am not afraid to admit I was in the wrong. Regardless of what led up to the night, Bob was 100% wrong for his actions. My problem with beating someone up in the ring like that is, that the person having the match with you is giving his body too you in a trusting manner to work together.. I'm not saying that Holly didn't deserve to get his revenge on Rene, but doing it while you're in a wrestling match where the idea is to work together, by giving up your body in a semi-relaxed state is fucked up in my opinion.. If Holly really wanted to fight Rene, he should of done it in the locker room, at a bar, somewhere where the other person is not willingly giving you his head, body, and otherwise.. Because one shot that you don't see coming, because you are giving your body to said person, is probably an automatic fight ender, which means chances are, you won't have a chance to defend yourself afterward.. It's just not right in my opinion.. I get old school mentality, but too me it doesn't make you a TOUGH GUY, to do that shit.. And say what you want about both guys, but you can tell that guys like Holly, JBL, Bully Ray, etc. want SOOOOO BAD to be recognized as a TOUGH GUY!! Which I am sure they are, but doing it in that nature makes you kind of a pussy in my opinion.. I've been listening to Rene Dupree's KZbin show, and he seems like a pretty laid back cool dude, I am sure he was a lil cocky at times being that young, jacked, and a good looking dude.. But he didn't deserve that, in that environment in my opinion.. Besides if you ask me, from what I've seen of Holly, he seems like a good dude to a degree, but can come off pretty stand-offish if you didn't know him.. So I doubt someone like Rene at 20 years old or whatever, was too keen on having any kind of relationship with the guy.. That 2002-2007 time in WWE was a lot of Vets like Holly, roided to the gills, getting pissed about WWE finally using a developmental system that was bringing a lot of new, younger roided up guys into the fold, because those territory guys were getting older, so I imagine there was a lot of hazing, bullying, and just trying to embarrass these newer guys in front of people by guys like Holly.. So I'm just not taking Holly's side on this one, due to the way he handled it.. If it had been "off the clock" so to speak, my answer would probably be a little different, but that's obviously not what happened..

Do u think Bob learned his lesson when he fucked with the wrong rookie (Brock)

That happened in 2002, this incident happened about 3 years later. Don't think he ever softened up on this

Holly would get destroyed in the octagon or in a boxing ring. Literally a 135 lbs fighter would rip Bob apart. He's a punk and a bully and his body of work was mediocre at best.

Rene and Paul shouldn't feel bad, they were literal kids in a shark-infested business, they didnt wanna cause trouble and the old vets took advantage

@@kennypatnaude3337 Nah, Charlie Haas kind of confirmed it was Kurt Angle. Charlie was Holly's tag team partner during the match so he basically had a front row seat to what happened. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2WmZqWopd59b8U

Dudes a toxic bully hating on young stars..fragile ego threatened by anyone with talent. Total coward around bigger or stronger guys. I'm Glad brock dropped him on his neck. Holly is not tough or a fighter. Just false ego inflated at the time on high amounts of juice and hgh. Smh look at him now off all his shit . Looks like hell and is small.

no, Rene had borrowed a rented car from Bob. Bob to just check the car back in when he's done. The car was impounded, Holly was given a 4,000$ bill, his drivers license was suspended and there was a warrant for his arrest.
