Mounting the side stand further forward is probably your best bet, man. It will be closer to the majority of the weight of the bike anyway, and give better support, and balance. I have a 1980 CX500C here in the states, and one of the issues, maybe even the only issue I have with the bike is that the side stand is too far back, and it's not a good balance when it's on it. I'll be moving mine forward. Probably the best solution for you too. I love your videos, and look forward to them. I've watched everyone, and can't wait to see your builds come together. Also, thanks for turning me on to Chief Pep, I saw one of his videos where he solved the problem of his leaking petcocks on his XS750 tank, and I had the same issue. So, now I know how to fix it too!

I think this is the answer. Move it forward and you are set. Shortening it will make the bike lean more that you want her to. Makes her look worn.

Thank you mate I really appreciate the comment, I may do some testing with a side stand before i start cutting it off, just to make sure the ballance is ok, What you say sounds about right,
@waynehawes69066 жыл бұрын
You could cut the side stand mounting bracket off and weld it back on further along the frame. I’ve done that on a couple of my bikes and it works out ok.

Thank you mate, I was thinkinhg about this but I wasnt sure of the balance point

Cafe Racer Garage I’ve had no problems. Just set the bracket at the same angle as is was before removing (I measured it with one of those variable carpenters squares)

Great photography! To the build, You could possibly bring the whole side stand forward until it doesn't interrupt your foot pegs. Or get air suspension so that you don't have to use the side stand, don't ask me how, because that one I haven't solved!😂

Thank you mate, Yes this was the only I idea I could come up with but I'm not sure of the balance point, Air suspension is a big job 😯

Beautiful photography, Dan. Looks like you brought along your drone! I'm back in HK and Spore this week. At which property do you stay in Bali? The wife and I have been to the Intercon and the Hyatt. Enjoy your stay, Mate! When you get back, try moving that kickstand forward a bit maybe?

Thank you mate, I'm not sure of the balance point but I will try that idea, someone also said to try and make an s shape stand to make it go under the frame and I thought that was a good Idea :) Staying in a hotel called The Bantha, it has a swin up bar and is right on the beach :) thebandha.com/ the Hyatt and Intercon are very nice.

If you are changing the height of the bike (lowering it) you might get away with simply shortening the stand. It's hard to tell from the video if you could keep the current location and shorten it enough to clear the shifter but still have a stable side stand.

thank you for the idea, It may end up a little to short unfortunately

which bike is the best bike to start with for a total beginner who has never touched a bike before?? great vids love em btw i know the basics of working with engines and mopeds so I'm not a complete beginner
@CafeRacerGarage6 жыл бұрын
Great question but very hard to answer, Id say its best to find the bike you like the look of when its converted first and then do some research to make sure parts are easy to get and not to expensive, search Pinterest for some cafe racer / scrambler ideas. Hope that helps :)

Would it matter much if you simply moved it 10cm or 4inches forward. Would that interfere with the balance when placed on the kickstand?

Are here any decent center stand solutions for the bike? Or would that interfere with the exhaust... Could the side stand be cut and mounted an inch or two farther forward? Good luck with that man.

@CafeRacerGarage6 жыл бұрын
Most of the time yes stuff like that is fixable but make sure you get it fixed by a professional that knows steel as it may have bent the frame as well.

An old time centerstand on the swing! Or on the front wheel? Or just in front of the engine? (saw that on a big touring bike once) Or a chainguard that swings out? In Finland a guy used his sidemounted numberplate as a sidestand. He just swinged it down, hidden hinges somehow. Scratchy plate though! Ha ha, once I saw this bike with pneumatic suspension and when parking, he just put the bike flat on the ground! :-)

Came across a GN400 in pieces going really cheap! Do you know anything about these bikes and what finding parts for them would be like? I know its got bad compression to start with, so it will need engine work for sure. Mainly worried about finding parts, as I think they are pretty rare bikes, this one was imported from Aus.
@CafeRacerGarage6 жыл бұрын
I would be careful with a rare bike as they may cost you so much in parts, I can't say Iv'e had much to so with GN400 bikes but I know they are a great bike to convert into a scrambler or cafe racer :)

The mount might have to be rotated to under the frame, shorten the stand etc...…….have also toyed with the idea of a swing arm mounted stand

thank you for your ideas mate, im still thinking over this so I haven't started doing anything to it yet, busy working on the scrambler :)

Can't the kick stand be moved forward just a bit .it may mean that you might have get off the bike each time to put kick stand down.(paused video at 4.43 to look at it and that might be an option) 👍

Definitely an option, thank you mate

Just move the footpeg out further. Where does the original sit compared to new location?
@CafeRacerGarage6 жыл бұрын
would need to move 4 inches
@nikolasb29336 жыл бұрын
@@CafeRacerGarageThat's pretty far. Gear lever on my tarozzi's projects almost 3 inches.
@nikolasb29336 жыл бұрын
Had another's look at it. The lever on my stock tarozzi's is not straight but angles out by an inch. The mount plate is also thicker giving another inch clearance from frame. Tarrozzi would make rearsets for that bike. I would have a look at the parts diagram.

my friend said the same, that was my first visit, doubt I will go back, I fancy Iceland, got a lot of Icelandic sailing buddies who have extended an open invitation As for the stand, maybe move it in, I've noticed on the CB400's its actually mounted inboard of the rail under the engine
