Caga Tió de Nadal History and Tradition - The Christmas Poop Log ✨ Catalan Christmas Tradition
Tió de Nadal is the magical log of Christmas Eve. Hit it with a stick while signing the “Cagatió” song and it will poop presents for everyone 🎁!
It is one of the most popular and original Catalan Christmas traditions.
But where does it come from? How does it work?
The Tió de Nadal, commonly known as Caga Tió became popular between the 17th and 18th century in the towns and villages of Catalonia, Aragon and Occitanie.
Initially the tradition of making the Tió de Nadal poop was related to nature and to the winter solstice. Many families, after making the log poop, burned it out in fireplaces to warm up all together during Christmas.
Several years have passed but the tradition of having a Tió de Nadal is more alive than ever 💫!
How does it work?
1.Each house gets a Tió de Nadal before Christmas, that comes with a…
▪ A smiley face
▪ A Catalan red barretina
▪ Two legs in the front
▪ And a blanket, to hide the presents!
2.Kids feed the Tió de Nadal before Christmas 🍪. This way, on Christmas Eve it’s belly will be full and ready to poop a lot of presents 😋.
3.On Christmas Eve families and friends get together.
4.The little ones gather in a room reciting poems and singing songs, while the Tió de Nadal prepares to poop gifts 🎶.
5.Then, the whole family and friends hit the log with a stick while singing the "Cagatió" song 🎵.
6.And Surprise! The wishes of the little ones have come true. Underneath the blanket there are presents and sweets ✨!
