The degree to which the opening section of his game, and by extension, the demo, does _not at all_ prepare you for the insanity that follows is honestly staggering. Imagine a movie advertised as a noir detective thriller where halfway through, the detective and serial killer suddenly develop psychic superhero powers and start having Matrix fights. The weird conspiracy soup that follows is just the icing on the pot roast. None of this shit goes together in the slightest.
@rorybarber507611 ай бұрын
I remember hearing that the game was supposed to be way longer, or episodic or something. I wonder if all the 'Matrix shit" for lack of a better term was supposed to be more gradually introduced. This game really does feel like the first two or three episodes of a miniseries that abruptly cuts to the last episode with nothing in between.

I might be too till a certain point. The thing about the chatbots called “A.I.” by marketing departments is that their “stories” are safe and boring, since they’re just a computer model using an aggregation of documents to predict what word a human would expect to come after another word. It’s like serving someone a lukewarm aggregation of palatable food ingredients selected for their inoffensive blandness. So, if it “works”, what’s called “A.I.” today can’t really produce anything as bonkers as this script when it goes totally off the rails, not unless it’s told by one way or another to just copy this (or a similarly awkward) story, as already written by an overexcited human.

I think people who think Beyond is worse than this one are crazy In Beyond at least some things make sense and there is something to appreciate. Some scene is well done as the journey of a protagonist who has a very good actor behind too. You can say it has a terrible final section and some of the most offensive scenes ever made. But in Fahrenheit literally everything doesn’t make any sense, consistency isn’t a thing. Characters act in ways it doesn’t make any sense. There are so many waste of time scenes in a game which is supposed to be a mystery to something that is complete BS. On top of that there are scenes like the one in the mental illness facility that are just as offensive, there is a child kidnapped from an orphanage and so on. A game which does like everything wrong except the very beginning (which is “good” to us at first because we assume the mystery isn’t shit) can’t be put above beyond or heavy rain which had potential and are not comical per se all the time. Don’t get me wrong this game is still entertaining but for all the wrong reasons and if you’re not in a mood to joke about it you would still have one of the worst experiences possible.
@TheMasterUnity Жыл бұрын
I think Beyond is worse because it's just so boring. Farenheit is complete comedy the whole way through
@edwardsuou Жыл бұрын
@TheMasterUnity that’s accidental not a merit of the game, it’s also mostly because of the inferior graphics The game takes itself seriously and it’s quite possible you try as well and get mad or disappointed when it falls apart instead of laughing. It’s like having fun with Fallout 76 bugs, that’s not a merit.

@@edwardsuou I dunno man, I can't see anybody making this game and taking it seriously. Also, the majority of the comedy comes from the absolute absurdity, not the graphics
@Winasaurus Жыл бұрын
I think Beyond is maybe worse in the sense that it's more of a slap in the face. You can excuse this being jank because it's an older game and there's a lot that doesn't seem to be taking itself totally seriously, like I don't think you're meant to be fighting giant fleas(?) and thinking "Hmm yes how interesting, what insightful commentary", same for the demon saying "Thanks Carla :)", plus a lot of it is just kind of boring in the same way a b-movie is boring. Filler bit where you play basketball, filler love angle you don't care about, pointless plot twist. Meanwhile Beyond puts a character that looks like a 12 year old girl in what almost looks like black skater gear and is like "No, she's a super epic CIA agent, take this seriously. >:(", and that's one of the least offensive parts of the game. The homeless section literally looks like someone roleplaying homelessness as a joke. Plus it being a continuation of Cage's "Let's put this female character into as many compromising vulnerable positions as possible" that he really kicked off in Heavy Rain. Fahrenheit is a bad, silly story in a bad game. Beyond is an atrocious, arguably disgusting and tasteless story, still in a bad game. I'd much rather watch a movie I think is dumb and boring than one that actually makes my skin crawl because the director comes off like a massive creep. And the gameplay of both is so bad to be negligible to the overall experience.

See, thing is, it's possible to mash _too fast for the game to register,_ at least on the machine I'd been playing it on. I had never encountered that in a video game before. So I was forced to give up on it, until I learned about that, and came back, and proceeded to beat the game in one sitting out of spite. It still ignites something in me when I see that scene

Before watching the heavy rain video, here's my guesses for the 3 awful things in heavy rain: (Spoilers if you care I guess) Scott killing that guy while you're controlling him in a split-second cutaway The weird way Madison is treated (ie constantly sexualized) Maybe that Norman has, as far as I know, 0 explanation for his future tech and super drugs. EDIT: Okay, so I was basically on for Madison and Scott, as in, she's sexualized in a dumb way and Scott being the killer makes no sense to the point they do dumb shit like split-second cutaway kills and his thoughts don't match. For Ethan I always thought of it that he's blacking out from the stress and in that mad fervor he's making origami because he's obsessing over the origami killer. Like a nervous tic or that he's even making it just to see if he makes the same kind of origami as the killer. Like copying someone's motions in a conversation to 'connect' better, but he's doing it with the origami. Definitely could do with more explanation though. I really thought Joe would care more about Norman being an implicit time-traveler. But then again that's an anime trope so maybe he doesn't mind that.
